RE: Oh, Canada
(1) As one of the Canucks here, I'm pleased to say that I quite like the rendering of Canada on the map. That said, the only part of it that will particularly matter to me is Halifax - where the troops can arrive to go to Europe and the ships can base to guard convoys!
(2) Newfoundland historically was not part of Canada during the war; I do not recall just now if it was a "Dominion" or not (most of the Dominions have CW home country status in the game) but in any case it is not large enough to warrant more than territory status in the game, although for accuracy's sake it wouldn't be a bad idea if it was a CW territory rather than part of Canada (although I suppose that the in-game effects of Newfoundland being Canadian "home country" territory in an "America in Flames" scenario might outweigh strict historical accuracy).

On the AiF maps, Newfoundland is a Territory belonguing to the CW.(2) Newfoundland historically was not part of Canada during the war; I do not recall just now if it was a "Dominion" or not (most of the Dominions have CW home country status in the game) but in any case it is not large enough to warrant more than territory status in the game, although for accuracy's sake it wouldn't be a bad idea if it was a CW territory rather than part of Canada (although I suppose that the in-game effects of Newfoundland being Canadian "home country" territory in an "America in Flames" scenario might outweigh strict historical accuracy).
It is the same in MWiF, as someone made the comment a long time ago, and I changed it.
Now, I was asking, in post #26, if I should also change the status of Labrador, as it is currently part of Canada, which is wrong. Labrador was only part of the Canada in 1949.

I'm happy that you like it.ORIGINAL: composer99

In the American / USA thread, some months ago, Flanker made a comment and made modified maps showing the rails in the area north of the great lakes, and how he would have had them modified.
I had not made any change at the time because I lacked sources, and because I prefered to wait for the coast graphics to be made.
I took this weekend the time to review the railways in Canada, and edited them, added some bits, to make it as it was in the 40s.
I'll show screenshots of the changes.
RE: Oh, Canada
All the changes I made were double checked on a 1940 atlas.
In this first shot we see the following changes :
- Added a railway in New Brunswick, close to the USA border.
- Moved Thetford Mines' RP 1 hex W.
- Added the Québec - Chicoutimi railway.

RE: Oh, Canada
Here we are west of the previous screenshot :
- Moved Moosonee at the heads of the Moose river 4 hexes SE of where it was (it was at the head of the Albany river).
- Shifted the railways to Moosonee.
- Edited the Moosonee / Sudbury / Québec area railways, notably around Cochrane. Most of these were already hinted by Flanker in an old post from a thread about America / USA, but I had not done them until now.
- Added the Montreal - Mont-Laurier railway.

A little northwards of previous screenshot to better see :

Moosenee was wrongly placed.

RE: Oh, Canada
West of previous, the area of the great plains :
- Added an eastwards going railway from Edmonton following the North Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan.
- Added Calgary southern and western railways.
- Added railways between Calgary & Spokane.
- Added a Edmonton – Calgary eastern railway.
Here, more rails should be added. This was really a railways-dense area.
Another railway line from Winnipeg to Regina / Estevan should exist.
At least 1 more railway exist between Regina & Calgary.

RE: Oh, Canada
South and west of previous, in the Vancouver area :
- Added a Edmonton – Calgary eastern railway (right of where "Red Deer" is written).
- Edited the Edmonton – Prince Rupert railway.
- Added the Edmonton - Vancouver link railway (right to where "Cariboo" is written).
- Added Vancouver eastern railways (the part on the eastern / southern bak of the Fraser river).
- Added the Quesnel - Squamish railway.
- Added railways between Calgary & Spokane (around the alpine hexsides).
I was hesitant to add the link between the northern and the southern railways, but this link exist on real maps, and on the 2000 Minimap. Same for the Quesnel - Squamish railway, though this one does not link to any city nor port so it is less important.

RE: Oh, Canada
Lovely.
When I was a teenager I worked for a guy (German as it happens) who took his wife on a 2 week train trip across Canada from Quebec to Vancouver every summer. He really loved travellnig across all that beautiful countryside in the comfort of a train.

RE: Oh, Canada
beautiful work!
observations:
Kootena near Vancouver should be Kootenay
minor quibble, but nevertheless newfoundland consists of newfoundland and labrador so the "main title" should really be overlapping on both with a mini-title of newfoundland on the island just like the labrador title. of course that is not possible unless you put the main title at a 45 degree angle or hyphenate it with half on each, but it might look like they are seperate as they are titled now
the port of rigolet in labrador is a little tricky - in actuality instead of including that village with a pop of 100-ish you may want to consider goose bay which was an airbase built by the RAF in 1941 as a refueling stop for the atlantic ferry route, and a port was built to supply it in 1942 which was at the time called refugee cove. up to you guys on this one since it does appear late - mabe on a delay. it did have about 250 military pop by the end of the war, which is likely more than twice what rigolet had at the time.

RE: Oh, Canada
100ish? Do you mean 100,000 or 100?
Patrice is in London for a few days. I am letting him make these decisions - based on maps and input from forum members.

RE: Oh, Canada
oh, i mean 100 people - it has 315 today, and i could be wrong where the population hasn't changed since the 40's, but either way i could find no info of military value on the port. now it does seem to to be able to take 1 decently sized ship, mabe 1 small freighter, and goosebay is iced in during the winter while rigolet is not so that might be taken into consideration. anyhow i just put it out there just in case.

I would be inclined to delete Rigolet and to add Goose Bay, as Flanker Proposed.ORIGINAL: Flanker Leader

RE: Oh, Canada
I did not have much feedback on this modification of the MWiF Map that I propose to do.ORIGINAL: Froonp
A question I have since I have reviewed the Canada part of the map :
This area (east of the border I drew) should be Labrador, part of Newfoundland Territory, not part of Canada.
All these hexes should be changed and owned by the Newfoundland Territory.
Should I make the change ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrador
Labrador only was part of Canada in 1949.
This has no consequences on WiF FE or MWiF, just that a country that would want to invade here would have to be at war with Newfoundland, but as Newfoundland is part of the CW, as Canada is, Newfoundland is always at war with whoever is at war with the CW.
![]()
So, I'm asking it the other way :
Would you oppose me if I made the change ?
(This is only 60-70 hexes to change, not much for me [:D])
