The FoaS Ship Thread
So, as you've already guessed, I'm a hobby 3D starshipper. I've been coming up with a few designs for a few races that I hope to bring into Starshatter (once I feel the designs are up to par).
So instead of creating each ship's individual thread, I'm placing all my ships in one single comprehensive thread.
C&C is always welcome, and I am always looking for more modelling and texturing tips.
Many thanks
~Rob

RE: The FoaS Ship Thread
So to begin with, I'm not gonna post the Human Frigate quite yet, because I'm in the process of revamping it, making it more modular.
However, here is a Light Cruiser for the Chimerans.

As you can see, they are big on radial symmetry.
I have yet to figure out how I want them to fly through space - should they slide along the horizontal axis, or should the main drive be located underneath and it flies through space like the top is the front.

Yet another Chimeran - The Heavy Cruiser, this time.
Battlecruiser is up next, if i have time before I head off to work.

Okay, so the one I just posted is actually going to be the Battlecruiser - because I just made the new Heavy cruiser instead.

Something like this:

Except the model will be textured and scaled correctly.

Graphically impressive. I like your emblem display. I'd like to emulate that with my Cartel emblem. I haven't gotten into the technique yet. But, I like what you have done.
Interesting ship design.
Modding wise, how is it propelled and how will the propulsion be displayed... if it will be dispalyed, that is. [:D]

RE: The FoaS Ship Thread
Thank you.
To be honest, the emblem design isn't mine, but just a brush in a set of crop-circle Photoshop brushes.
I think radially symettrical starships havent been done to a large enough degree. The only reference that comes to mind is the Goa'Uld from Stargate SG-1 (which, i think, these are a far enough departure from). The design actually came to me from a book by Kenneth Libbrecht called "The book of snowflakes".
Modding wise, the ship uses a graviton induction drive (graviton drive or grav-drive for short). Much like the Minbari or Centrauri from Babylon 5. The fins throughout the ship are it's engines. As such, not drive flare is displayed.

Yes... if figured you would forgo showing the flare of drives due to the design. [;)]
My fleet crafts designs are different from those in the Starshatter fleets but they don't depart from things as much as yours do. [:'(]

It's actually a little outdated, I've since retextured all my Choir ships - but it gets the idea across.

Almost Done ^___^.
Just a few texture kinks to iron out, and maybe a few more details. Then I make a "Grunged" texture set, and a "Rusted" Texture set, then its a break model. - Then we're done.

I made my own Flare textures with 3ds Max. create some PCX textures with the names: Flare0+.pcx, Flare1.pcx, Flare2.pcx, Flare3.pcx, and Flare4.pcx and put them in your Starshatter directory, the flare will be replaced with your textures. (i think -filesys has to be on as well, but I dont know that for sure)

A praying mantis comes to mind with that choir ship. [:'(]

Interesting!
Never heard that one before. ^__^
Here's a render of a different choir design - but with the updated textures.

pretty amazing work there, very unique and original.
not sure what you've deffed in it yet, but it would be interesting to see these up against wdboyd's Cartel ship...
although they dont look the same, they seem almost counterparts to one another...
at least IMHO they do...
