my hope is that this will cause attrition and delay his southward advance, buying me time

im going to lull him into a false sense of seurity in china, thats why im exposing my flanks. eventually ill launch a counter attack in China and in Burma.

Port Moresby Falls

Post by marky »

well port moresby has fallen as expected

and in china it appears that DB is trying to flank and cut off  the 2 southern areas

so i intend to fall back and establish this perimeter

Image

this way i can concentrate my forces, build up forifications, shorten my supply lines and force him to either get into a troop crunching attrition battle, or leave me alone

i believe he will choose the lesser of 2 evils and leave me alone, rather than committing even more troops

so im basically writing off Noumea, Luganville and such

not so much Fiji or Samoa, cuz theyve been reinforced, but im not taking Halsey and the convoy to Noumea with the Death Stahhhh spottted so close

as soon as Yorktown gets to Pearl im either going to raid or retake Wake, try and draw at lkeast part of KB up there so maybe i can reinforce Fiji and Samoa safely

now my intention is to send a convoy from Auckland, carrying C46s to India, they will fly supplies to China

once he turns towards russia, ill launch a counter attack against him in china with the big army from the southern bases, along with additional troops

this will be combined with a thrust from India into Burma, because with that convoy to India will come Australian and American troops

and also with a  counter attack in  the pacific, thus ill be pressuring him from all sides, and the russian coast and frontline will be reinforced and hell be in an attrition battle he cant win...

basically im playing dead, and i doubt hell suspect that ill pull the same thing against him as i did the AI...

the main pacific offensive will be in the central pacific

Baker-Wake-Marcus-Iwo-Tori Shima

within 2 years i can have B24s hitting Tokyo and spottting ships for my boats

i will make feints in the southpacific to make him think that my main thrust will be there, along the lines of Macarthur

unlike the allies i have NO intention of liberating the Phillippines, its just a waste of thousands of troops, and hell no doubt pull back into Manilla like ive done and i dont want urban fighting if i can avoid it

Marky, looking at your strategy comments above, you are a bold Allied player.  Historically, the Navy would have loved your chosen route of advance on Japan, while MacArthur would have hated you with a passion.

Your strategy is very bold in my view, as you will have so little land base air support on your main line of assault.  Late in the war, the US will have the CVs to carry out this type of assault, but will it be too late?  The Japanese are going to have some LBA and, assuming no Midway before your offensive begins in earnest, they will have a sizeable CV force of their own to help the deeply entrenched infantry.  Personally, I like a more attritional strategy starting earlier and using hordes of modern LBA Allied air.  Sort of a grind the bastards down approach.  Not eloquent, like yours.  But, such a strategy implies at least a significant effort where you can employee all those very nice B-25/26 and A-20s to good effect.  Escorting them makes life much longer for your guys, too.

Another thought.  I note that you are going to place SoPac HQ in Canton.  Do you think this is a bit forward at this stage of the war?  It is not uncommon to see Canton at least the subject of one hostile take over attempt.  In my game, I held Canton against the first recon by the Japanese.  However, they have the initiative at least until you get the 5th CV and the AA upgrade in 4/42.

I have to wonder where the Chinese are going to get all the supplies to mount a grand offensive under the plan you propose.  Keeping the Burma Road open is a chore.  The surrender of the internal resource and oil areas of China will not help.  But, you are a resourceful player.  It's March 3 in my game v an experienced, human Japanese player.  I'm fighting hard to hold Changsha and other resource areas, but he is advancing relentlessly in the north.  Good luck with your bold plan. I'll be watching to see how it goes.

These comments are certainly not meant as negative criticism.  The beauty of this immense game is that it appears to offer many potentially successful strategies for both sides. I am apparently a much more conservative Allied player than you.  I have to tell you, we are at almost identical points in our respective games and I am not thinkly of big offenses very much.  That may be a failing on my part. I hope that your plan works well.

Apologies for the lack of brevity.  I was born a lawyer.

Another thought. I note that you are going to place SoPac HQ in Canton. Do you think this is a bit forward at this stage of the war?

Eventually it will be shifted to Canton. currently its embarked in Halseys convoy, which has arrived at Palmyra, which will serve as a forward and emergency repair base. over 300000 combined fuel and supplies are being landed there, along with 35000 troops, including the 24th and 25th divisions, with more troops on the way

i intend to reinforce Canton and porbably Fiji with the 24th and 25th along with supplies and planes in anticipation of any move or moves south from the Gilberts or Marshalls, as the IJN had originially intended, but foiled cuz of Midway

ordinarily this would provoke a carrier battle, and i expect him to attempt to do so, but i shall not accomodate him, even tho i can afford to lose 1 or 2

i do not intend for Halsey to engage until at LEAST June wen the Zero bonus wears off, and i have Hornet and all fighters will be F4F-4s, plus ill start recieving Avengers around that time

Once June comes along i intend to attack sumwhere, and lure his carriers into a fight

i expect to lose 1 or 2 maybe 3 but my CAGs WILL exact a price

but for the moment my intentions are to reinforce:

Canton
Fiji
Pago Pago

i evacced tongatapu and consolidated
