Those posts go back to January and concern the final beta for 2.5; here in the colonies, it's already April.
But you said there had NOT been any posts from Mike Wood ( other than the PT posts ) since the 2.50 upgrade. As the 2.50 upgrade was in January and the posts I quoted from Mike Wood were AFTER that date, you were wrong. So it's April now, and January is "history"; thats a bloody awful excuse! If you goof, have the guts to admit it!
Except for the "bugs reported" section at the top of this forum, I haven't recently seen anything of import from Monsiour Wood because Matrix has thrown us our last bone w/2.5; does anyone seriously expect another comprehensive UV fix/patch in this lifetime?
I doubt it, i'm just wondering why Mr Wood bothered to send "those" posts, and hoping ( in vain it appears - as usual ) for a response from him as to why.
Re Inteligent AI: I'm finally realizing something re UV's "intelligence"; I bet many still playing this game play PBEM, therefore AI behavior isn't a concern for them. I wonder if the beta testers for 2.5 were testing only UV's PBEM.
I would think the testers for 1.00 to 2.5 were testing for UV's PBEM, judging by past posts. It may however have got worse since 2.5.

I've spent six months "peacekeeping" in Bosnia in addition to lengthy forays into Germany and the Middle East, and quite frankly ritual suicide/kamikaze attacks/homocide bombings and the like are more than just cultural phenomena.
So they are; you can always find some fanatics anywhere in the world.
However, some cultures breed them more than others, and the West is often to slow to appreciate this.
Maybe it's my own personal prejudice, but people who willing kill themselves and others for either their emporer or All'ah need to be stopped by any means available...
I quite agree.

Still; this is meant to be a games forum and not a political one.
Can "we" keep politic's and the like for somewhere else please.

Ok, let's look at something less extreme: Consider the recent remarks by Japan's PM Abe re the Japanese cultural phenomenon called "comfort women," courtesy of Yahoo News:

"In 1993, a statement by then chief government spokesman Yohei Kono apologised to former comfort women and acknowledged that Japan was involved directly or indirectly in causing their suffering.

Historians say up to 200,000 young women, mostly from Korea but also from China, Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan, were forced to serve as sex slaves in Japanese army brothels.

Abe earlier this month triggered an uproar when he said there was no evidence Japan directly coerced comfort women. He later elaborated by saying he was talking of coercion in the "strict" sense, such as kidnapping women.

In his remarks Monday, Abe repeated that the military was involved in coercion in the broad sense, but said he was not casting blame on all troops.

The premier, whose grandfather was a cabinet minister during World War II, is known for his conservative (italics mine) views on history."

So is Abe defending his cultural heritage, saving face, or simply in denial about his nation's aborted "brothelization" of the world?

So what does this have to do w/UV? Well, that airstrip on Guadalcanal was intended to first isolate and then assimilate Australia into the Japanese empire. And after Japan posts its lonely officers there far away from home, guess whose nation's women learn Japanese culture first-hand when they get to be "geishas" -- which are perfectly acceptible in Japanese culture -- whether they want to or not.

There are some Aussies who play UV knowing full well what the consequences of Japanese culture would have been for them if that airstrip on the 'Canal became operational.

Tocaff, I really enjoy discussing things w/you, but now I gotta go see what DEB wants.

I think I said something like this to you before: you and I both speak King's English; you in England, me in New England.

But your last two kings were both named Elizabeth, so perhaps that's why we can't quite seem to understand one another.

I doubt that Raverdave would ever have become a "comfort woman."

Hello...

Do not have time to read all posts in all forums for all games coded, so just read about concerns here.

1) Submarines running aground. Database bug. Am working on code fix, to correct error.

2) Ships escaping back to Pearl or Tokyo, when base is captured and ships are in port. Working as designed. Am changing design, as some players do not like.

Any other bugs found in UV will be fixed. Build must be tested and will not be released for some time. Problem with 2.4? series was no testers and little time. As UV code is currently be modified for new game, have testers. Want UV to be as bug free, as possible. One or two patches planned. No new features planned. Please note that I write the executable and send to production. They create patch file.

New game, "Carrier Force", based on UV engine, with many additions from WIP added and many new systems added. Some folks are referring to "Carrier Force" as "UV Deluxe" or "Advanced UV".

New "Carrier Force" Features:

1) New set of scenarios.
2) Editor will allow modifications of aircraft and other data, as per WIP, plus some new ones that WIP lacks.
3) New art.
4) Naval movement based on 4 hours, instead of eight.
5) Mid-ocean intercepts possible.
6) Sub vs. sub combat possible.
7) Option to reduce strategic 24 hour turns to 15 minute tactical turns.
8) In tactical turns, the player makes all tactical flight decisions, such as outload of individual aircraft, aircraft can fly a greater variety of missions, flights may have missions changed in mid-flight. Art for the tactical turns include hangar and flight decks and airfield runways, both with top views of individual aircraft. Sort of like "Carrier Strike", except that all action occurs in South Pacific. Player will have option to play an entire campaign in 15 miute turns or 24 hour turns or any combination desired.

Work on "Carrier Force" will be applied to the new "Carrier Strike" game, which will be released at a later time. That game will use 15 mile hexes, instead of 30 mile hexes and will cover entire war.

Hope this Helps...

Why not include transport aircraft being able to fly to another base pick up a unit or supplies and return to home base like in WITP?  We UV diehards are greedy and want it all.

The game should run on PCs in the UK.  I've bought games from the UK, among other places, and they ran fine on my PC from the US.  There are members of this forum from all over the world and they're playing the games.  Have you considered purchasing the game via download?

All three to varing degrees.

Between Elizabeth I & Elizabeth II there were rather a lot of Kings and ruling Queens. I'm not supprised you fail to understand me if your statement above reflects your knowledge of the British monarchy.
As humour it falls flat because I do not understand. Perhaps if you explained I might follow, but I think I would rather not understand.
Why do you try to give the impression that you hate the English.

No, that's a presumption, but I did wrongly assume that the late Queen's mum was also an Elizabeth. Sorry, but your royalty is just not as popular here in the colonies after the founding fathers removed the oath of allegiance (to the crown) from the Book of Common Prayer and became Episcopalians.

I think that maybe you should back off and stop offending DEB.  There's lots of people in the UK that aren't happy with the Royals, but that's their business.
Let's get back to UV and Carrier Force.  Maybe Carrier Force should be named Patch 2.75 except then they'd have a rough time getting money out of us for it.  I wonder how buggy it'll be 'cause I'm bored with work arounds and would really appreciate things that work the way they're intended to.  It's the pits when something weird happens and you get clobbered because of it.

I think that maybe you should back off and stop offending DEB. There's lots of people in the UK that aren't happy with the Royals, but that's their business.

I don't think I have a problem w/the Royals, but one of their subjects has seen fit to do a running commentary of almost everything I say on this forum, even when it's not addressed to him/her. Perhaps a trip to "Coventry" is in order.

But yes, back to business. According to Mike Wood: Ships escaping back to Pearl or Tokyo, when base is captured and ships are in port. Working as designed. Am changing design, as some players do not like. Any other bugs found in UV will be fixed. Build must be tested and will not be released for some time

Wood's talking shop and I'm not sure I understand exactly what he means, but it sounds like he's doing a rebuild/redesign of UV in preparation for "Advanced UV"/"UV Deluxe"/"Carrier Force" (pick one).

Well, at least this time Matrix said it would test its work before they spring it on us, otherwise we're doing its R&D for them. Apparently that's what happened w/the 2.4 series -- no monee, no testee -- as well as the confusion on how to apply the 2.5 download, i.e., patch over or fresh install?

Frankly, Matrix should have never sold any UV games at the (untested) 2.4 versions. I'm willing to be reasonable, but how many "why should I buy UV delux when the original engine isn't hitting on all cyclinders" discussions did we have on this forum before some one from Matrix finally decided to enlighten us?

I realize Wood must have a full plate, but Matrix markets more games than it develops and months of silence re UV's development/build/patches hasn't exactly inspired confidence. However, despite my new graphics card, I always find myself coming back to play old 2-D UV.

I hope the map is expanded somewhat in the Carrier Force game as my problem with UV is that after a while the size of the area involved becomes limited for replays.  It's a PBEM problem that makes it easy for you to find something that works and then tend to repeat it.  Stop a Japanese auto victory by shifting Aussie troops in large enough #s to the NHs.  If the Japanese player tries and fails for the AV then it's a quick death.

If you were to read back through my posts of last year when the upgraded games were first proposed, you will find that I suggusted UV would have to be fixed to enable the upgraded game/s to function correctly. However the likely hood of any more UV patches seemed a joke to some people. Not so now!
In view of your comments re our Royal Family, I think the assumption I made was reasonable. ( By the way the Queen is not dead yet as suggusted above by your statement. I think the phrase you require is: the late Queen Mother or the Queen's late mother. ) The Mother of our current Queen ( Elizabeth II ), was also named Elizabeth, but she was not a Monarch ( just the King's wife). I was confused by you referring to them both as kings.
