New review from Gamespot
RE: New review from Gamespot
I'm afraid that one of the requirements for effective "comprehension reading" is something to read other than unintelligible gibberish. [8|]

Sorry Marc I see you couldn't even comprehend the 2nd post i made. lol Man, you really should go back to school and learn what comprehension reading is. Get a websters dictionary, oh that's right you don't believe in Websters definitions. lol
I guess a dictionary would have been helpful with your post too. All those typos, embarrassing.
RE: New review from Gamespot
Really Marc you know you drive more threads off topic than anyone else on your team.
At least I was talking about the review and how to review. You seem to only talk about ME....do yah LOVE me dat much? bats eyelashes. hahahahahah

RE: New review from Gamespot
I just thought I might pipe in and say that I think this is an extremely fun game. I play games like Half-life 2 and Day of Defeat and thus think graphics add to the game but I think the graphics in this game are trememdous for this kind of game.
I have seen a lot of people hit it for being ugly and I just dont see it. My little tank even left tracks in the grass on the map I was on last night.
Ultimately it is about fun and nothing (including the graphics) takes away from the fun.
I will admit I missed the XCOM bandwagon and all of its clones so this is the first time to try a game like this and I am just loving it.
I may even try other past games like this one, such as Silent Storm and Laser Squad.
Just thought everything was too negative in the gamespot review.
spadman.

I'll chime in here too and say that I like it. Yes it could have used a better interface (but thankfully the hotkey mod works great) but the basic premise and implementation is sound. Sure, maybe you would like soldiers that die instead of going in hospital, but that's a design choice and I think it works quite well.
And while I did have two CTDs in the first three hours, I haven't had one in the twenty plus hours since. Maybe it really is related to the save game name length?
Anyway, if you are undecided, I would just say that it's a fun turn based squad combat game with a good strategy level business and resource management system as well. And while these things aren't usually mentioned in the usual reviews, the game has oodles of potential for modding. Well worth the price if you consider the hours of entertainment you get.

RE: New review from Gamespot
Yes, this game is addictive.
For all who are continuing to Whine and Moan and Complain, and have not yet bought the game ... Ah, um, well, the game is what it is, take it or leave it. Honestly, might as well play it and give it a try. Not buying the game for the reasons some have stated is, well, a 'choice'. Unless someone tries it they can't really assess it. Also, the original game was good, this is a little different, but both were fun. (Except, of course, the original was a tad easy.)

Welp now I know you didn't play the origional since you said it was a "tad easy" it was hardly a tad easy. It's why the game sits amongst the great ones out there because it isn't a "tad easy". Try again with your pumping this game up while not havinging played the origional. Probably didn't even buy it or own it. lol They do it to me, so, I'll just pass it along and do it to you.

Sorry rav, maybe your a little slow, or just suck at games, but the original was easy. Much easier than this version.

The original was only easy when played on "easy". Unfortunately the DOS version reverted to "easy" when loading a saved game. So lots of people were playing on easy and didn't know it.
UFO:ET may be harder. It probably is since it's expected to be played by XCOM vets but the original was not easy once patched. I know this because I've been playing it for the last week or so and losing half my soldiers each battle.
RE: New review from Gamespot
I played the original game on easy, and am playing this one on easy. There is a significant difference in difficulty between the two. The original Xcom was easier on easy than this game is.
Losing half your soldiers each battle wasnt much of a problem in the original since you were able to replace them anytime by hiring new soldiers. That is if you used the rookies as cannon fodder, sending them out first to draw fire.

You know, I miss the old days of recruiting hundreds of guys, hand picking the best stats, sending them thru Psi training, and dumping anyone who didn't have a good Psi stat. Them were the days.

The original game was easy because you could build a super-sci base and research all the technology so fast it was unreal. Then, it was a matter of time to wait for bigger fish (ships) so more tech was available. Nice Months Game Over Any Difficulty. But then, my strategy was 'who cares about the battles, just pump up the tech!' since in the original game it was SO easy to get mega scientists.
One thing I like about the Hard difficulty in UFO:ET is that the lab rates cost quite a bit. Therefore, I tech slowly [:D]

RE: New review from Gamespot
I never played any earlier xcom games, and I think the game is very addicting. I'm happy w/ the product. I can't believe they rated it in the fives. Is there some sort of a vendetta? I've seen those guys rate shit games 6.7, where the reviewer has said basically "this game is a crashing, boring, worthless piece of shit, I give it 6.7"
The graphics are dated. Do you realize what his means !? It means even ppl who don't have a state of the art, superninja computer can still get the game and run it smoothly.
Oh well. I guess ppl savy enough to look at gamespot are savy enough to read more than one review if they think a game looks cool and are thinking of buying it. I always do. I think the game is very good. I'm angry w/ the difficulty I'm having installing mods for it [:@] Somebody make an installer dangit.

I own and have played all the previous xcom games. I really like this game. In my personal view this game does bring back some of the fun of the old X-Com games. I have had the same of same experence of looking up and the clock after "just one more battle" and looking and the clock and remembering I have to work what is now today. I feel for all those folks who were looking for the original X-Com with updated graphics but i'm really enjoying the feeling of discovery of playing the old X-Coms for the fist time. while every game has good and bad points to me the good more than outweights the bad. Their is some stuff i'd love to see and the mod community has done a wonderful job covering most if not all of these points, the reserve AP and kneel buttions to me being most welcome. I'm currently enjoying the heck out of Bman's mod, he has done a fantastic job on it, you can switch on and off those mods you want to make the game more enjoyable for you. As for instability, i've had only 1 or 2 CTD's in 1 week 1 to 2 too many but not what i'd consider bad. As a recovering computer field tech i can only say check what programs are running in the back ground you may not be aware of, every program isn't allways compatable with every other program (there's just to many to test against). May you have as much fun with this as i'm having and have a great day!
