Anyhow... back to OP:
I guess you are pleased to see the recent run of screenshots, eh Dredd? Seems a cord was hit by this thread (at least the parts on topic). I have to agree with Dredd to an extent. Some of these pages need some serious revamping and the screenshot freshened up. Take Battlegrounds: Napoleonic wars (is this even a game still on the board). Those screens are a mass of blur. I was pleased to see the new Guns of August screens, because the earliest screens had turned me off to the game (and the AAR on the forum had some poor quality screens due to the poster using the wrong utility). Now I see that it is a clean, pleasant, and exciting looking game. I had put Carriers at War way on the back burner, due to a bit of lack of info on the title (I was a bit young to be a wargamer when the orginal released). But that AAR and those new screens for that revived my interest 10-fold (enough to merit a "save money for this game" status). While I appreciate that priorities NEED to be placed toward development and release, even something as small as loading new screens generates tons of buzz here and on Wargamer.com.

Still, I have great respect for Matrix, making the most out of what it does and being quite successful in doing it. The one tiny issue that keeps reoccuring is the length of the development cycle for a few titles (and the mostly weeded out "false release announcement" issue - you know, like when Empire in Arms was "days" away last year). All-in-all, everyone does a good job, especially since we are a cranky crowd that is hard to please! [:D]

Not that Matrix don't promote their titles, more that the game sites for the upcoming releases seem to get very little attention. For me, it's the screnshots and AARs that determine how high on the purchase ladder a game will be.

And yes...Guns of August has just stepped onto it. I was surprised by those, because I had spent quite some time (although not recently) looking through that games forum and not seeing an awful lot of action...so I thought the game was dead!

Anyway...good to see some screenies for the Campaign series and Guns of August.

So, Dredd, were you happy with the Campaign Series screenies? To me it looks a lot like ToAW in 3D... which I can barely use because I get so confused. My guess is that Matrix is a bit leery to release screenies for the "remake" games because they don't want to be accused of simply releasing something as it was years ago (look at some of the threads over at the Cross of Iron section - I learned a new term "pig with lipstick" from there - not that I agree with its use in that case). People tend to get hung up on the lack of a graphical overhaul when they don't realize how much work goes into the "under-the-hood" part of the game. So in these cases, maybe the screenies distract rather than contribute. Despite the fact we claim to be "uninterested" in graphics... [;)]

I am currently playing the original Campaign series and like the 3D view. I don't play counter games.
 
IMO the value in the Matrix edition will be the ability to run on XP/Vista, no CD required, and any tweeks that they have done. The new units/mods/scenarios is an added bonus.
 
I don't think the graphics will be improved but we shall see.

Yeah, I think that is the point I was making. I can see the argument between for not putting screenies out there if all of the work is being done to update a game to run on newer systems (kinda like a big giant patch on a title no longer supported by the original developer). Many people didn't understand this about Cross of Iron, how it was meant to be an updated collection of all the past mods, patches, and improvements - made playable in the Windows XP world. It was not a "new" release, but the support of a mostly fan-run title. Now I didn't buy it, partially because of this, and partially because I never got into those titles in the past. But... I went in fully knowledgable about what it was and what it was not.

Now, take Battlefront and Carriers at War. These have had lots of screenies, AARs and a good amount of press time. Why? Because these ARE nearly new games, completely revamped from the originals. In this case it makes sense to promote them a bit more than some of the other titles. In this case, Matrix wants to showcase just how much these have been improved.
