the troops that are set to march last turn are marching at 2 miles a day... road in the hex... [:(] Fatigue 40, disruption 15. As I don´t have the time to wait 30 days to get my troops out of this hex I have ordered a SHOCK!!! attack next turn. The last deliberate attack achieved a 4:1 (3000+ casulties for IJA) so I hope to get the 5 or 6:1 I need... casualties will be expected high... [:(] I will just keep up the attacks until the divisions reach 50% disablements. This will then mean that Northern Burma will stay British. Not bad! [X(] This doing without major reinforcements. Hi Ron, errrr...Castor[;)]
i think i know why...sometimes, even if you get 2-1 or more odds attacker suffers significant disruption and i guess that is why your adjusted AV dropped from 500 and something to 250. Also keep in mind die roll...
(that is one of good things in ground combat - defenders can hold for little longer even if they spanked well day earlier)...

In that case it must have been the die roll as I don´t order an attack if my troops are disrupted. Only doing that if MUST be!
Ron, errrr... Castor!! [;)]
btw, where is Ron all the time? Still in Greece?

hmm, Helpless has moved in obsolete Chinese fighters to Homan this turn. Don´t know what he wanted to achieve here. Every attack of my bombers was escorted heavily so far. This strike had even a bigger escort than usual as this time all Oscars decided to fly. The obviously not anymore experienced Chinese pilots had no chance. A good number was shot down, the rest driven off and some more destroyed on the ground. We suffer the usual op losses... Would Helpless moved in a FG of P40 this encounter would have looked different! And I fear to see P40s in China. Defending this stack of nearly 300.000 troops would be worth it IMO! Glad he seems to think different. Using I-16s and I-153s is the same as using Wirraways. Only a waste of ressources.

RE: 5/18/42
I thought of you and your AAR the last few days. I just started back playing WitP after almost a year off (software problems and found out I needed a new motherboard). I am playing the Allied against the AI using CHS mod. My Dutch and British subs are not hitting AK/AP and the Japanese ASW TF's are getting hits. Must be the "loaded dice" and bad die rolls. [:D][:D][:D]

Yeah, isn´t that funny? [:D] There must be a "major" die roll at the beginning of each campaign that determines the major direction of all the following die rolls! My campaign started off with not a single torp used at my Pearl Harbour attack... [:D] You see what the Allied subs are causing in my game and that my ASW (at least the ships) is doing NADA!!! [:D]

here come the Wellingtons! It´s obviously not smart to place a sentai of Oscars at Pagan. The bombers come in but they can´t be really harmed by the Oscars. Oscars can only be used in China. The Wellingtons shoot down 3 Oscars while losing one of their own on the way back home.

A Dauntless spotted one of my subs 20 hexes South of New Caledonia. This tells me that the US CVs are heading East from New Zealand probably back to the West Coast for upgrades. Probably the damaged Hornet is also in this TF... [:(] My Glens didn´t spot the TF and I won´t try to intercept them as there are for sure two dozen Allied DDs that would sink every IJN sub placed in their way... What a pity we couldn´t catch the Hornet. And what luck on the Allied side that the ship survives 2 bomb and 4 torpedoe hits... [:(]
The heavily damaged US CV Hornet survived and will be back in action within the next 6 months.... [8|]

Day Air attack on Taung Gyi , at 33,32

Aircraft Attacking:
18 x B-25C Mitchell bombing at 12000 feet
19 x B-25C Mitchell bombing at 12000 feet
An unescorted strike comes in but the Zeroes can´t really compete with the Mitchells. The B25 has also an armor value of 2 and is 90% as hard to down as a 4E bomber due to the 7,7mm MGs of the Zero not being able to penetrate the armor of the B25s. 5 B25 are lost today and 7 Zeroes (one A2A, 6 on the ground). I lose 3 IJN pilots... [:(] Tony and Tojo rd hasn´t paid off so far, still scheduled for 8/42. Hopefully I once get lucky and can advance the arrival date as I´m researching around 350 planes of both types together. And not to forget, in one week the replacement rate of 4E bombers goes up to 150... [8|][:(]

I lose 3 IJN pilots... [:(] Tony and Tojo rd hasn´t paid off so far, still scheduled for 8/42. no matter if 2E or 4E bombers. It´s suicide to place fighter against unescorted raids as I always lose more fighters than bombers are shot down, when there are medium to big raids... [:(] The fighters just completely lack the ability to hurt the bombers... In fact it´s better for Helpless to send in unescorted raids (no long range escorts available anyway) than having escorts. If there were escorts he would lose MORE aircraft (because escorts can be shot down) than with unescorted strikes...
Unfortunately do I have to say that the armor value of 2 for all Allied bombers (except very early models) causes some problems that will get more and more severe the more bombers will be available... [:(]

It will look diferent next time around I assure you, bombers have lost their level 2 armor and durability is set back to stock (only a few points difference here), and guns are a bit more effective too.ORIGINAL: castor troy

On the other hand, 5 B-25's for 1 Zero A2A isn't really a bad trade for the Zeroes (unless all the B-25's were lost to flak).
Soon...

Don´t get me wrong, I´m not complaining, I just want to explain the results!

lol! Another time when Helpless proves to be a lucky guy! SS Trout is part of a TF with 5 subs in it that entered Manila today (pretty sure a TF to evac fragments). This sub TF stumbles across a transport TF of mine that leaves Bataan exactly at the right time to meet the subs and Trout fires a first MK 14 salvo (and achieves an exploding hit [:D]) then hits the transport with half a dozen 5 inch gun shells and to top it off, Trout fires another salvo of MK 14 torps. Not surprisingly anymore for me, the "not working" MK 14 torp explodes again... [:D] The transport was carrying one third of an Army HQ... [8|]

The Allied get to bounce my incoming daitais and the daitai in the lead is completely swept out of the sky and nearly all Zeroes are shot down from behind (2 Zeroes left, exp. was 79 [8|]). During that phase my planes perhaps shot down 2 or 3 Allied fighters. Then the bounce ended luckily and the Zeroes managed to improve the kill ratio. The obsolete British planes were not much of a match but the P-40 proved to be very dangerous once again. It was a FG and not the AVG so it´s experience must have been only in the high 50s or low 60s as this squadron has not seen much fights (perhaps they were only in the mid 50s).
95% of the kills were achieved by the US P-40s! So without the British planes we would have achieved a 1:1 against the lower exp. P-40 so the plane proves to be far better than our Navy planes...

I´m pouring tens of thousands of supplies into China to feed my offensives there. I´m unloading all at Shanghai but a couple of turns later Shanghai is at 20.000 again but the bases at the front have not a significant increase of supply. Looks like the supply "system" is sabotating me and all the supply I bring to China is not sent to the front but to Korea (which has perhaps 20 times more supplies than needed there) or even back to Japan! [8|]

With no turns in my inbox I decided to find an AAR to read and plowed through your pages Castor!
Very enjoyable, especially all your rants [:D]
Seems like you've had a string of unfortunate happenings - much like buying a Monday car spending endless efforts to fix it so it can
break down another day!
Like the stacking rule, Helpless will not be able to send 500 B-29s from Wake to bomb Tokyo [:'(]
When I played against Wobbly early on I achieved lots of magazine explosions. Can't even remember when I saw one last time.
Same with you?
One of the later patches also made it more difficult to spot and sink subs - but I'm still spotting subs with names and not only periscopes.
Jap subs are usually sunk by a single hit from an asw ac. A super large I-400 sub got 56 sys and 70 flood damage from one such hit. Not flood is up to
88 after a week and the boat is all but lost...
After all the bugs and frustrations I've been through, I deeply recommend that you have a whole series of defibrilators around - not sure your mental
health will survive 1944 [:D]
Keep up the good work, your opponents choice of nick may turn out to be prophetic [:)]

Glad you enjoyed the reading! I´m not that frustrated as my rants may suggest! [:D] Only the usual things you see during the game coupled with bad luck (as an example, in none of my PBEMs perform my DDs sooooo bad and I don´t know why... [:(])!
I fear even with not 500 B-29 on Wake it will be still bloody for me as I don´t expect to shoot many down, when I look at what I can do now against bombers.
I´m not sure my nerves will survive 43, not to talk about 44 or 45!! [:D] Therefore the Japanese high command is planning to get the Allied surrender by early 43! [:D]

Now look at this result! Once again the Oscars (that lost 38:0 one time against the AVG) perform like x-wings! From my previous hints you surely know what happened! BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE! Even though the Oscars were on escort they were able to bounce the AVG on and on. No radar cover over Homan and then it´s just a gamble who will get the bounce (with better odds to the defender, looks like I had a lucky die roll). Radar and the bounce make the A2A in the game so loopsided.... Get the bounce and your kill rate will be 4 or 5 times better...

First message: Wellington can´t find target! Luckily! Then still 52 come in unescorted. A very looong airbattle and the Zeroes are doing a good job and although a dozen Wellingtons turn back, still a lot are bombing but the hit rate is bad... at this stage I fear that the Wellingtons won´t be the only one coming in today... After being shot up by the previous attack the Zeroes perform not so good anymore and my airfield get´s completely plastered. I lose more than 30 Zeroes, 25 on the ground. More than a dozen IJN pilots are dead. I´m happy that I have moved out my bombers as I was sure this attack would happen after my sweep last turn to Imphal when a lot Zeroes went down. Two daitais were replaced with new ones. Now I don´t have any reserves any more, only green daitais on training. The attack on Rangoon caused more losses to the Japanese than to the Allied. In 5 days the Libs enter the stage... then everything will go four times worse. Hopefully I can take Mandalay quick enough because with the three US bomber groups in India that will be B24 soon, I probably won´t be able to defend Rangoon´s base anymore and then taking Mandalay will be pretty hard to impossible.

I have so many daitais that need training to even reach an average exp. of 50 again that I don´t have the airfields to put them on. A level 8 af is at Clark field (full with nearly 400 planes) and a level 4 airfield at Cagayan (also full, nearly 200 planes). Some base forces are shipped to Bataan (level 2 af), so I could put there another 100 planes for training on Manila (can a level 2 airfield launch airfield attacks of fighters?). The KB daitais alone are around 400 planes, and the daitais stationed in Burma are also desperately needing training. Long time until I get new IJN fighter daitais, I´m now hoping for the Tojo, Tony to arrive to replace the Zeroes.
What makes my training situation even severe is the so perfect working supply "system" of this game. I have around 60.000 supplies in the Philipines, only one base (Clark field) with a lot of planes and troops and there sits the only HQ of the island (an air fleet HQ). While 30.000 supplies are sitting at Bataan (not a single unit there
) at Clark field I only have 15.000 supplies which means I can´t get replacements for the daitais that lose aircrafts while doing the training bombing runs on Manila...
. Supply "system"... LOL
Not to talk about the fact that the whole Pacific has only 4 Zero daitais that are semi trained... With the Wasp the US has 3 operational carriers and at the moment I don´t have anything that could compete with this force, so hopefully Helpless is not going to invade one of my outlying bases... 234 casualties reported
Guns lost 4
Airbase hits 4
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 3
Aircraft Attacking:
2 x Wellington III bombing at 15000 feet

LOLNot to talk about the fact that the whole Pacific has only 4 Zero daitais that are semi trained... With the Wasp the US has 3 operational carriers and at the moment I don´t have anything that could compete with this force, so hopefully Helpless is not going to invade one of my outlying bases...
