ORIGINAL: Miller

Playing the same mod as both sides. I understand your pain with regards the B17s being almost immune to Zero's, but the results are pretty much what you would expect in real life.

The Luftwaffe often intercepted unescorted raids with heavily armed/armoured (and much faster) FW190s and achieved something like a 3:1 kill ratio. Imagine if they had used Zeros.....I doubt they would have got better than 1:1 that we see in your (and my) games.

Yeah, I completely agree! While "complaining" about the performance about my fighters I´ve always been saying that the mod works very good. I don´t want to see stock results when Zeroes kill dozens of 4Es losing two or three of their own. What I´m complaining about is the fact that I need 300 fighters at ONE airfield to get 100 into the air (90% Cap) to make this place more or less safe which is completely ridicoulos IMO. To have not all fighters scramble is again okay, but then something has to be changed in the whole A2A and A2G routine as at least 80% of the fighters that don´t scramble are destroyed on the ground which means 4Es are always achieving a kill rate in their favour - clearly in their favour.

One big unescorted strike on Rangoon in my game and my opponent would probably lose 50 bombers. He would take down 20 Zeroes A2A and destroy another 150 on the ground... [8|]

Allied ground losses:

troop numbers, guns and assault value of the Chinese is growing. I´ve checked the situation again and there is no way supply can get overland to Homan. My fighters are flying LRCAP over Homan but have never met a transport. Even if he uses transports, he would need 1000 of them to bring supplies for nearly 300.000 troops.

Homan has been completely cut off since 3 months and after HUNDREDS of Sallies achieved HUNDREDS of supply hits and after three months of shelling from more than a dozen artillery units the numbers decreased steadily. Since a couple of turns the numbers have been increasing again... WITP must be magic... So the last three months of sieging are now USELESS! If there is supply now then I have to start again what I have done the last three months to decrease the supply again. And then perhaps at one day... pop pop pop the Chinese are perfectly supplied again.

Perhaps I´m wrong but is there any other explanation that troop and gun numbers as well as the assault value is suddenly going up every turn again? For me it can just be supply.[&:]

The Bostons attacked Pagan instead of Mandalay!

And now the good news: The big strike from Dacca failed to find Mandalay airfield and during the day the 700+ engineers were able to repair the 76% airbase damage of Mandalay. Two days without big bomber attacks were enough to get the airfield running again. 72 Tojos and 36 Tonies are flown in and were set on 90% Cap to welcome the Allied fighters and bombers next turn! Hopefully I get more to scramble than only three dozen...

Allied assault value at Sian also goes up around 50 points every turn, but this base isn´t cut off. Seems it doesn´t make any difference if cut off for three months (and bombed big style) or bein in full supply.

we get 70 out of 108 fighters to scramble. I had hoped for slightly more. They show an exellent performance against the P40s acting as escorts. At least we can tangle with Allied fighters, though also our Zeroes achieve nearly the same kill rates against Warhawks. In 2,5 months we will face P38s in Burma. SUPPLY IS FLOWN IN TO HOMAN!!! [:(] We have been flying LRCAP over Homan for a long time and never intercepted a single transport. Now I know why! You only get a message of e.g. "C-47 flying to Homan intercepted" when you SHOOT A TRANSPORT DOWN. For every transport shot down you get one of these messages. This turn I got one: "Dakota-I flying to Homan intercepted" and in the aircraft losses we saw ONE Dakoto-I lost A2A (another 5 C-47 lost due to ops). The reason I never saw any transports flying to Homan was that my USELESS Oscars flying LRCAP never were able to take a transport down with their baby guns. [8|]

Those transports are more or less completely immune to Oscars (not even to talk about Nates) it seems and I bet they were flying all the time. Otherwise they couldn´t bring enough supplies for nearly 300.000 troops. A damaged airfield at Homan doesn´t stop them as transports aren´t effected by runway damage. Don´t know if this should simulate the drop of supplies with parachutes. Wonder what it should simulate when I´m always be able to pick up troops from completely wrecked airbases? Beam me up perhaps?? [8|]

As we can´t stop them coming in (you can´t even stop them in stock) we will have to bomb their staging base. Though only Chungking is in range of our bombers, so if they are based at Chengtu then the whole Homan adventure is lost because of the supply runs of those transports. Who says 300.000 troops completely cut off can´t be EASILY supplied by air transports? Impossible in real life I think when you don´t have several runways to land which there aren´t as I bombed them regularly into reported 70-80 damage.

should I post the aircraft loss list every day? Today the Allies lose 0 (zero, nada, null) bombers´(OUT OF NEARLY 300!!!!!!) that are constantly flying, no matter what weather, at a range of 7 or more hexes... I have transferred a 88! exp Sally daitai from Soerabaja to Kendari today and lose the whopping number of 3 planes to op with one pilot lost... double
I really don´t know if it all comes down to die rolls, but I think something is seriously wrong when I compare those results... perhaps I´m the only WITP player that experiences this in all his PBEMs, no matter what side I play.

the die rolls hit me once again. Will this ever end? [8|] This HIGH value task force is ordered to patrol do not retire (for what reason ever) and once again my opponent isn´t punished for doing something like this... It´s not the first time and "normally" such things completely end in massacres for the Allied side. Never happens in this PBEM it seems. Out of 81 long range torp bombers we get 18 to launch against this TF in the morning. Bad die roll... not a single attack flown in the afternoon. Bad die roll... The base is level 6, range is 10 or 11, Zeroes on escort, air HQ present AND 52.000 supplies at Kendari!!! Bad die roll perhaps?

It doesn´t end though. We have a torpedoe dud rate of 30%. So far so good. DD Edsall hit by torp... DUD... BB Colorado hit by torp... DUD.... D A M N means 2 out of 3 hits were duds... I´m really facing B A D die rolls, no?
While my opponent will surely think it was a bad turn for him, IMO with no Allied bomber losses and this TF that didn´t get receive serious damage it was a complete disaster once again for me. All torp bombers are set on 15 hexes next turn so they probably could reach the New Mexico - IF they spot the TF...

The slow BB New Mexico was hit by an aerial launched Type 18 torpedo!

My planes get slaughtered and the GHOST Lightnings achieve a kill rate around 30:1 A2A. Note that there isn´t a single Lightning at this base (at least this is what Helpless has told me). Only P40C showed up in the replay but I ALWAYS saw P38 Lightning shooting from behind at Oscar / Zero / Sally... boom boom boom. [:@][:@][:@] It´s ridicoulos! If it doesn´t resolve itself then I will quit this game.

What's this "ghost plane bug" CT?

I've never heard of it, and don't see anything on the support forum. Have you sent a save to Matrix yet? I've never seen anything like that.

No, I haven´t sent a save as we are playing a mod and I thought they would prefer a stock game in that case. I´ve never seen that bug too. Those P-40c you see in the combat report are flown by the AVG which before were upgraded to P-38s. As I "didn´t like" that [;)] my opponent switched them back to Warhawks (P38s starting in 10/42). Though the game still treats them as Lightnings taking down my 80+ exp. pilots in Zeroes and Oscars at a kill rate of around 30:1. [:(]

In the replay I see the pic of P40c but it also says: P38 shooting from behind at Oscar... and when I look at the performance then it´s perfectly clear to me that the game thinks there are Lightnings in this A2A.

I don´t know if it will resolve itself (I bet not) and this means my opponent is now using P40c that are treated as P38 [:(]. Helpless told me he changed something in our save file though I don´t know what he did exactly. It didn´t help. And to be honest I don´t like doing changes in a save file...

It really seems this PBEM is going down the street and I´m really getting tired of bugs that, so far, are only effecting me. [8|]

those 8th AF attacks are just too much for me. No chance I would have ever been able to have air superiority (against unescorted bomber raids [8|]) in Burma at any time in 42... [8|] I have ordered all my troops to fall back from Mandalay. Then my opponent will switch to another base bombing it to dust. [8|] While he can do his bombings every day with multiple raids I tried a follow up attack on Chungking today (just two attacks in a row...) but of course my base was clouded... bad die roll... Interesting, it seems the game has an issue with "downgrading" squadrons.  Not sure which mod your playing (I just started a CHS game, and there are P-40C...  Do you know what slot was used for both the P-40C and the P038s?  Not I can actually help you, but it's certainly an issue.  I wonder if they're pulling from the P-38 or P-40 pools?

I think JWilkerson plays mods (CHS), so he -might- be willing to look at it.  Either way, I'd post something on the support board (with notation that you're using a mod), because it's never going to get looked at if nobody knows about it.

Good luck.

we´re playing BigB 1.31!

P40c uses slot 162 and P38 e/f uses slot 190.

I think both pools were used as my opponent lost both P40c AND P38 e/f in that engagement when looking at the aircraft loss list. Though when watching the replay I obviously faced P38s only as they shot my expert pilots to pieces. Those who performed excellent normally against Warhawks (with one exception when I lost nearly 40 Oscars against the AVG for the kill of one or two P40s - some kind of loop the game went in and a whole sentai was lost).

I will post it in the support forum.

this is one case I think it´s an oversight during the programming. Ichang is the base of 300 planes of mine that are set to attack Chungking. This turn we had (of course) a cloud over the airfield again and I got the message "Ichang air missions cancelled due to bad weather". Okay, but if the weather is so bad that my planes don´t fly, WTH can the enemy then fly in and attack this base? Of course this goes for both sides so this "rant" has nothing to do with fanboyism. Think about 100 4Es coming in and I would have lost 200+ planes because of this "oversight".

no base North of Rangoon will stay operational and with ONE BIG attack also Rangoon can be bombed to dust. And then I have to retreat back to Bangkok. Glad we´re "already" nearly in 8/42 so it´s time for a complete Japanese retreat out of Burma. [;)]

we try to begin a constant bombing campaign on Homan again. If the Allied airtransports are more succesfull than 100-250 Japanese medium bombers that are bombing Homan then I´m screwed as without getting the 300.000 Chinese troops to completely starved we are totally stalemated and all I could do is to retreat... 4 Blenheims are lost today. The only Allied bomber losses. We have 900 eng at Taung Gyi that are trying to repair the base. Runway damage 0, base damage 80. Today an Allied LCU entered Myitkina and will take the base next turn. The Allied are already back to Burma and can advance back to Mandalay as the Allied super bomber armada is making my advance IMPOSSIBLE. [8|] I suffer around 30.000 [X(] casualties a month from constant bombing runs on my Burma bases alone....[8|]

moved also 135 fighters to Maumere (South of Java) to fight the 100 incoming 4Es. 108 Tony/Tojo and 27 Zeroes. We hope to bring a good number in the air, if more than 50 bombers are going in for a bombing run then we will again lose 40-50 fighters on the ground.

The Ki-61, hope of the Japanese Army Air force:

two tank regiments are already at Myitkina... Looks like those are not only some units that retreated but instead the Allied are already sending in the majority of their army in India. No wonder under the umbrella of the allmighty airforce in India. Taung Gyi is operational again and I moved in 108 IJA fighters and again we hope the best. Unfortunately our whole campaign is predicted to hopes all the time...

I "finally" feel some of your pain. [:D]
In my two day turn PBEM game I had a squadron of P-40E's near Changsha get bounced 4 days in a row. First by Nates escorting Lilly's when on LRCAP from 1 hex away for two days and then by Oscar's  doing a sweep from Canton. I lost planes each time and inflicted no losses.  [X(]

Don´t worry! You are the Allied commander so you will have the advantage of the bounce 90% of the time when looking at the whole campaign. With hundreds of base forces around that all will be equipped with radar you will have a clear advantage! [:D]

After severely suffering from the unescorted Allied bomber raids Helpless and I have agreed on reducing the armor value of Allied 2E and 4E bombers (ecxept B-29) from 2 to 1. Durability stayed the same. While I will still suffer, I hope this will lead to at least more bomber losses than just a dozen against 100 fighters. This was the first turn with the lower armor value (we did the same turn with armor 2 also) and it showed that the bombers lose around 25% more aircraft.

the completely undamaged air base of Taung Gyi has 108 IJA fighters set on 90% CAP. We see 18 in the air! There are 72 Tojos and 36 Tonies. ALL were set on 90% Cap so I didn´t press any wrong button and as you can see the Tonies even leaked to Mandalay but not a single plane shows up over their own base (no, they were not on LRCAP). Only the 204th fighter sentai scrambled (actually exactly 50% of the sentai [8|]). The other two sentais had 0 aircraft in the air!

I really do think that there is more and more wrong with the game. A year ago, Mogami stated that it´s a "glitch" if planes are set on full Cap and 0 scramble. There is a varying number of planes scrambling, but if none scramble then there´s something wrong. With that in mind, we have redone the turn. With the result that there were even fewer planes from the 204th fighter sentai in the air and the other two sentais still didn´t launch any planes...

Once again the same question: Am I the only idiot that sees such things? Of course there´s Ron S also... Anyone else?? Hard to play if you get 18 fighters out of 108 to intercept unescorted bombers...

My Dinah IIs are reconning Imphal for weeks and report around 120 fighters at the base. And every day the cap over Imphal shows 100+ fighters in the air. 90% cap for sure so that isn´t bad eh? Japanese cap seems realistic and Allied cap already has AWACS for help. Now if Japanese cap is realistic I wonder if it´s realistic to have the 8th Airforce in the Pacific that drops more bombs on jungle bases that were dropped on the Ruhrpott.
