What's the word?????

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

Hey Rhonda,

In 28 years you'll be younger than I am NOW!!

So hang in and have fun!

WHAT? You're 88 years old? [:D]

You guys are joking right? I just turned 60!

Of course, my older brother is 72 and still teaching history at UT and intends to do so till he drops dead (hmm... must be in the genes). I figure I'll have to be good for another 10 years of teaching at least. Of course, when Social Security and my annuity from my old company kick in at 65 I'll be in decent shape financially, I think. Combined, those are more than I'm making now as a teacher!

Getting back on topic.... the Football crowd has now been appeased... I'm realizing where we are on the totem pole... which is below baseball AND football games it seems. [:(]
Love & Peace,

Far Dareis Mai

My old Piczo site seems to be gone, so no more Navajo Nation pics :(

I'm now banking on October 9th (my birthday) as I'm sure David Heath would like to celebrate with me by giving me a birthday present in honor of my 60th. [:D]

We'd love to oblige Rhonda, but it's not quite ready. It's the current top priority, so I hope that we'll be able to get it out next week or latest the week after.

Regards,

- Erik

Is this going to be an improved version of AOS, the original, or AOS II? Thanks![:)]

I haven't purchased yet, so I don't know. But the screenshot suggests it's the original AOS. My understanding is it was just updated to be compatible with current operating systems.

Is this the thread that also addressed Battleground Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and whether it should be added with Battleground CW or Battleground Napoleonic Wars? I don't believe it was added to either package. If it were to be tossed in with any package, I would think it would fit better with the Eagle Day and Bombing the Reich games. We're still waiting on those, aren't we?

I remember seeing an ad for it when I bought the original NIR and WF back in 199X. What level was it? I mean, you can play parts of it at a tactical level in WF (units are platoons) or all the campaign at an operational level in HPS Bulge '44 (units are battalions). Where did it fall?

My recollection is that BG Ardennes was platoon level. I purchased it after having already purchased WF. I saw BG Ardennes as a test run for Campaign Series and did not play it very much as I already had WF. They were very similar games, except the graphics in BG Ardennes were not nearly as good (16 bit versus 32 bit?). BG Ardennes went through phases within a turn like BGCW and BGNW. When Campaign Series came out, there were no longer phases. I don't recall, but I think Campaign Series removed the phases and implemented the Opportunity Fire feature. I ran across at least one scenario from BG Ardennes that I recognized in WF. Anyone who was interested in BG Ardennes would prefer Campaign Series, but for anyone who wanted to see what Campaign Series' predecessor looked like, BG Ardennes would be it.

Oh, thanks.

It is fascinating how John Tiller games evolve from each other, with the newest games not necessarily better than the older ones, and with no 'barriers' between Civil War/Napoleonic and WWII.

I am learning his Panzer Campaigns, and I realize that HPS Napoleonics owe more to these than to BG games in game mechanisms, while obviously importing graphics, scales, parameter data from BG. Now if you consider that Panzer Campaigns derive from Talonsoft's Campaign Series, and this evolved from BG Ardennes, which I suppose owes much to the other BG games, it's a kind of vicious circle...
