Screen Messes up upon loading

Post by cdbeck »

Hey,

Just downloaded, no problems with that, file seemed fine (about 161mb).

However, whenever I load the game the screen does not stay in "the middle" of the monitor. The initial movie does not load correctly either. Below is a Screenshot of what my game looks like upon loading.

Thanks,
SoM

Wow, I can't say we've seen that before. Could you post a DxDiag? Also, just for the heck of it, try a reboot and see if that helps.

DxDiag looks fine. What's your desktop resolution? Do you have any unusual dpi or scaling set?

No unusual settings, that I know of. I use 1024x768, 90hz Refresh. I will change this and then check again, reboot had no effect.

I will then try a fresh DL and install on my other HD. Will report back.

Ok, I'll keep researching, hopefully Marshall will be able to stop in shortly and chime in as well.

Ok, here is what I tried.

Redownloaded and reinstalled on another Hard Drive - no change.

Redownloaded DirectX9 (said I was up-to-date) - no change.

Redownloaded nVidia drivers, uninstalled old drivers and installed new ones - no change.

Changed to numerous resolutions and refresh rates - no change.

I'm wondering if the key might be in the fact that the intro movie does not play. That seems highly odd to me. I will experiment more, as you research.

First time I had a glitch with a Matrix program! I guess we all get a run of bad luck, eh? Shame, cause this was the release I am most excited about! I have faith though, you all are pros.

Hm, have you tried deleting the intro video file to see if that makes any difference?

Have any idea what that file is called?

I switched off my anti-virus and Zonealarm to re-DL again and reinstall. Just making sure this was not accidentally corrupting things.

I also used the compatibility mode on the .exe, switching it to Windows ME/98 and putting it on the 640x480 setting and the "standard text" setting. Still no dice.

Oh Erik... here is something to try. Can you enter the "Grand Campaign" then save the game and upload it here. I can't get to the New Game button, but I can hit the load game button. I wonder if the problem persists past the loading screen.

Another brief idea. I had some issues with Crown of Glory regarding something like this, now that I remember.

It had something to do with the Indeo codec. Any way you can upload a new version of this codec or give me a place to DL one?

Ok... let me see if I can get an Indeo Codec installer posted here to see if that helps.

Whew... well I am not alone, so that makes me feel a tiny bit better.

I did find a site that offered free Lignos Indeo Codec. The version number is 5.11. Is this the best up-to-date version?

Did the video play for you once you ran the codec installer? Or did it still not play and you still got the offset screen at the start?

No playback and no change in screen. No change at all.

Ok, I did get a change. I used this Indeo 5.11 installer below. Once I did this, I actually got the intro movie to load! However, the screen distortion remains the same.
