I think one issue in AT is the non interdiction/interception of fleets, I remember Vic mentioning this as well

I will add some militia garrisons and put in a coastal road.  I agree that it is needed.

Just uploaded version 3.  Added coastal roads in Western Europe to prevent AS losses along the coast.  Also added small garrison units to prevent easy turn 2 raids.

Here is the leadership model for the scenario.  There are non-named leaders that can be purchases and then are promoted.  There are also unique named leaders.  Here is the staff points (how many power points they can influence) and the staff modifier (both combat and staff mod) of the units:

Hey Tom,

I noticed that one of the Russian fleets at start is French not Russian SFT type.

Also I've never had a scenario in AT where production is so detailed. I love the idea of each city being important - but actually managing production for Russia and Austria is very tedious. On the 2nd turn I just left production set the same as first turn because I didn't want to have to go through 4 screens of cities to manage production.

I can't think of another way to do it that is less labor intensive I guess. Maybe if you did something like grant PP's equal to the number of cities with some cities counting double or something? Then spend PP's to raise troops? This would mean you wouldn't ever have to actually manage production. I'm not sure whether this would really work but the scenario as designed is really tough to manage I think.

You can set your production to PPs and then use them to raise troops.  I set it up both ways so you can also have an AI player.

Also, a player can use pp to purchase units for another player.

Thanks for the catch on the Russia fleet.

Hi Tom,

Looks realy great. If you need another tester you know how to find me. Here my two cents though...
If you want to see players decrease unit density and use less frontlines it might be a good idea to:
1. set stack maximum very high (like 999)
2. remove concentric bonusses
3. increase supplystore of SFTypes quite a lot so they can like march to moscow and half-way(!) back without resupply.

and optionally you could even:
4. set rulevar to set minimum powerpoints needed in unit to take enemy hex.
5. make an event that causes desertions in any hex that is without a leader and not in a fortress.

but that last rule wont work well for the AI i guess.

kind regards,
Vic

I like all your suggestions Vic. especially the desertion one.
I'm not so sure about the removal of concentric though. I see where your going with it, but the concentric bonus adds depth.
IMHO

@iron,

yes, but it also promotes the use of lots of small units.

on the other hand requiring minimum powerpoints (rulevar 307) could make this an only viable tactic to large armies.

Seeing how were only a couple of turns into the game and there has been some pretty dramatic changes between version 1 and version 3, I wonder if we should restart with version 3 ?

Tom - I had another thought about the Aon scenario. One thing that I guess isn't modeled at all but that was an important part of the Napoleonic wars is the ability for a country to sue for peace then a year or a couple of years later re-enter the fray.

For example in AoN if Austria is taken by France - that's it - it's done. However in reality a conquered country was not really ever conquered. Napoleon beat Austria and Prussia in quick succession in 1805/1806 yet both re-entered the fray multiple times.

Just a thought

Note: This is a duplicate posting of what I wrote in the AAR thread....

Turn 3 off to Russia/Austria.

Sorry Tom, but this early version is just not clicking for me. Something is wonky with the naval combat. I looked at the stats and I can't see anything that stands out, other than possibly the max attacked values are too high for the British SOL's, allowing them to be targeted too many times. Anyhow, I attacked a single French naval unit of 20 Fr SOL's and 10 Frigates with four of my own stacks. Each stack from a separate hex, and containing 20 Br SOL's and 10 Frigates. Thus, initially a 4:1 ratio. Granted that the units had varying remaining AP's, but the minimum AP per stack was 22, which should have allowed for at least two rounds at a full 4:1. The results? The British lost 4 SOL's and 3 Frigates, while the French lost only a single Frigate.

I suppose I should run some combat sims to see if I was just extremely unlucky, or if there is something that I'm missing.

The lack of garrisons at the start has already been mentioned, and with no PP grants it makes the initial mobilization period wildly subject to how many cities the French player can rush against each of his opponents. Rather than a war of trying to run down and engage the enemy armies, the game is devolving into how thin can you spread your garrisons and still hold cities.

Finally, the supply situation is out of balance. Going into the field has left the Portuguese army undersupplied, even with all their cities producing nothing but supplies. The British are okay at this stage, but only because all their fleets are at sea. If they go into port, I dread to think of how many supplies will get sucked down.

Follow up post...

I ran the simulator, and with 4 British naval stacks attacking 1 French naval stack, the results were likewise screwy.

Defender averages:

2.035 Frigates lost
3.05 SoL's lost

Attacker averages:

3.475 Frigates lost
4.87 SoL's lost

Another follow up...

Scratch the idea about the max attacked values. None of the log results seems to indicate that had any bearing.
