------ HIGH RESOLUTION PARTICLE EFFECTS ------

New ... MR_TracerPack_v1.0 ... This post contains the entire collection listed below.
For just one kind, check listing to find post # download.

Features :

1. Red, White, and Green Tracers for small arms enhanced ... 64x64 PNG with ALPHA layer.
2. Three variaties : BRIGHT/DIM/LOW ... small differences ... more transparent on LOW than BRIGHT.

Tested on my monitor, 1920x1200, 32 bit depth.
Please let me know how your's appears.

I'll update as I go ... Color change on request.
I might adjust gun shell next.

COLOR BLIND ??? Let me know, we'll work together on finding three colors that help you see them better.

JSGE READY !!! Unzip to MODS folder .... select the variant.

---HIGH RES ... NO COLOR TRACER MOD ... v1.0---

Screen shot Post #22.

Ok, first ... the game likes to surround the bullet with a very light gray pixel width of "haze" ... as I like to call it.

Basically, your "shots" leave small contrails of smoke behind them ... the same length as normal tracers.

I increased the PNG size to 128x128 to minimize size of contrail.

Anyway, at least we're back to the 20th century, for those that hate the blaster tracers.

--- High Res Color Tracers Bright-Small ---
Download Post #34.
Screenshot Post #35.

Ok ... These are 64x64 but with smaller halo's and dimmer color. This mod is less "blaster" looking. From the side they aren't very bright, but from behind they combine to make it bright.

I'll see about making them less brighter ... In comparison from first mod (v1.0) they are much dimmer than DIM.

JSGE READY!!! - Unzip to mods folder.

Enjoy!
Rob

Congrats Rob, very nice work [:)]

Thanks again!!

I never would have thought about doing it until I saw British Tommy's post.

So, if anyone has suggestions ... PLEASE post.

My next mod (stridor suggestion) will be the NO TRACER mod.

Also, I'll post my experiments ... if they work.

I have the source files available for v1.0 ... the TGA and ALPHA TGA and BMP ... in case anyone wants to experiment on their own. I don't know if you can extract the alpha from a PNG ... I can't with my tools.

ENJOY!!

Note : experimenting in progress ...

I will experimenting with bullet size (returning to normal size and greater) ... I shrunk it down to teeny tiny ... only a good zoomed-in view can see it.

Edit .... However, the bigger the bullet the huger the bullet that leads the glowing tracer ... see screen #1 above, far right tracer.

First you need the Mod program.

See this thread http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1773663

This will create the mod folder to put Mraah's folder into.

I left click on the first attachment and get a popup window. You probably have to "allow popups on this site" from the IE tools menu or the yellow dropdown warning.

Excellent mod Mraah - this should definitely be made the default for the game, the original traces always looked like travelling puffs of dust. Now I can see star wars-esque battles, not to mention the increased feedback you get now. I actually brightened the red tracer a bit in the bright mod, so they glow like the green ones.

Thanks for making this.

Those tracers are better than originals, but those red and green bolts really look like plasmas in a Star Wars battle ! [X(][:D]

A grog request : no tracers please !! [&o]

Yeah, bigtime plasma ... good for high camera action but can be too much. I'll be experimenting with a scattered effect to the color to spread the color out more rather that bunch it up ... pixel by pixel.

I just got home from work this morning ... no tracer mod can be done quite fast. I'll get the eraser out and have it up soon ... stay tuned.

Have you tried a black tracer?

I always enjoyed seeing canister shot flying through the air in CM.

I could try a black tracer ... hmmm, a canister shot. It's possible, but the game surrounds the bullet or the PNG with a very light touch of gray ... 1 pixel width, no matter how small.

I can do a canistor shot ... I've got plenty of experimental fat black bullets that can be made to have many holes in them [:)].

I wasn't suggesting a need for canister, just commenting on something from CM.

If a black tracer is going to look like an evil force is descending upon the units, maybe it's not a good idea.
