I've got a B-17 pilot with five kills, but my top pilot is a USN guy with 37 kills and a 99 experience.  Looks like the USN and Marines have taken over the top spots; the Aussies' best pilot has 28 kills flying a Kittyhawk I, but there are at least a half dozen Americans ahead of him, flying Corsairs and P-38's.

It looks like you have to have ten kills or more in order to stay on the list if KIA/MIA.

I had Boyington disappear early in my game. He had seven kills and I figured that all aces would still be listed, but I guess not.
Yow - since there are about 8 copies of Boyington floating around (at least in my game, which is just 3 months into the war), it is hard to see how he could vanish...

LOL, 20s? I had no idea. Miller's fighters ruled the sky until sometime after summer '43. I have some P-38 squadrons with more than 500 kills to their credit.

I just check my top pilots tab, and Miller is right, the P-38s are the big guns. My top three aces:

1st LT RT Smith, 48 kills, flying P-38
1st LT AJ Reynolds, 43 kills, flying P-38
FLT JW Yarra, 45 kills, flying Spitfire VIII

You would think that with 40+ kills, they would at least promote the guy above 1st LT. [:)]

Well they've both been Majors before.  But you know how fighter pilots can be when they aen't flying.

I'm running the full campaign, just entered April '42 and Pappy Boyington has 16 kills.

In the game I mentioned earlier, Pappy Boyington is an unhappy camper in one of my POW camps. [:D]

Well, the "real" Boyington ended up in a PoW camp as well.  In his case, his celebrity status worked in his favor - he was treated far better than others, and managed to survive the war in pretty good health.

Maybe not my most successful pilot, but my current favourite:

I'll also point out that I think it's interesting that I have US pilots with over 100 missions (I thought they got retired after 100 missions?).  Frankly, I'm glad they stick around, because returning those pilots to the ether wouldn't do me any good!

this feature was changed with some patch (1.5? 1.7? I don´t know anymore). When there were the problems with PBEMs running out of pilots in the later stages of the game, this was changed and there seems to be a die roll now if the pilot gets rotated out after he has reached 100 missions.

Yeah, it is Jan 44 in my game and I have quite a few pilots with well over 100 missions.

Guess where the bulk of the air war is.

I was thinking of posting this myself, but decided it wasn't sporting. He is being treated humanely in the POW cage. [:D]

Something completely different - chinese aces! ;-)

Stock PBEM, 03/1942 now
I withdrew all chines fighters to keep 1 I-16c and 1 I-153c at a full strenght, and indeed, they did a good job vs jap nates and oscars. 13 kills in 11 missions!
Additionally those 605 and 135 british FB sq was transfered to china and got their scores too.
In total for squadrons AVG is on the first place with 145 kills.

It's now late 1943 in my campaign and the Marines have the top 2 kill spots, with 37 and 36 kills respectively.  Third is an Army pilot flying a P-38; the Marines are in Corsairs and are in the same squadron.  The poor Aussies have fallen out of the top 10, but the Navy is lagging even further behind.  I need to check them again though; I just sent every CV and CVL I had to raid Truk, and the airbattles were awesome.  The Japanese pilots died in droves trying to penetrate the 200+ Hellcat CAP, but the remaining Wildcat pilots suffered badly; I hope they get upgraded planes soon...

This is my best FG in theatre, they pretty much singlehandly kept Singapore from bieng bombed into rubble by IJ until I was able to upgrade the British fighters to Hurricanes. However my highest scoring ace in the group only has 12 kills!

Btw does anyone know how many total aircraft IJ had in its inventory at the beginning of the war? Ive destroyed thousands of planes on the ground to date.
