No I didn't move the install.

I did have a complete system crash that required me to reload everything. I lost most everything.

After the backup was installed EiA was still there but I think my registry was rewritten.

Maybe this has something to do with that.

Before we go on I'm going to reload it from the disk.

That's the best way to do it.
Things happen there that don't in a normal copy process :-)

I just got this error message when trying to install the game on a fresh install; however, the game was originally installed on the other partition on the drive which is still present. I tried deleting the Matrix Games folder and cleaning the registry (shouldn't be needed since it's a new install but what the hell) and reinstalling, still getting the same error.

Yes, I put in the disk. It essentially stopped responding after the last file transferred. When I forced the program to close all the files were there.

The update 1.04.07 went fine without any stalls/stops. The serial reg file is there.

Ok, so the installer hung somehow at the end? Did you turn off all anti-virus/security software that could be interfering before installation? I would suggest a complete uninstall and reinstall with all background programs off, that should make sure the installer completes.

Did you uninstall the original copy before reinstalling the new one?

I had two partitions originally C: and D:

C: had OS
D: has games, including EiANW

I did a clean install on C of a new OS (Vista x64). I then deleted all EiANW files and did a registry cleanup. I then tried to reinstall EiANW back to D but the install gets stuck after the last file (Windows Help Files) are installed and the EiANW install window won't shut. I forced it shut. All files seem to be there but I get this error. I then installed the update 1.04.07 without any problems. Still the error is there.

I did not have any anti-virus/security software running at the time. I will close ALL programs and try again.

I have closed all known programs running (non-OS and I don't have the firewall or virus scan on/running) and no luck. The program still hangs at the end of installation. It's just been sitting there for about 5 minutes now. Any ideas?

ps. I emailed the "helpdesk/support" people but they haven't responded.

It's impossible to do an uninstall using the EiANW uninstall since the only filed in the Uninstall folder are a .dat file and a .xml file.

The way to uninstall a game is to either use the Uninstaller we provide or to go through Add/Remove programs in your control panel. The method you used (delete and registry clean) can create many problems.
I then tried to reinstall EiANW back to D but the install gets stuck after the last file (Windows Help Files) are installed and the EiANW install window won't shut. I forced it shut. All files seem to be there but I get this error. I then installed the update 1.04.07 without any problems. Still the error is there.

That's not normal, something is interfering with the installer. This is the same installer program we use on all our games. One of the last things is does is make some additions to the registry and generate a few security-related files. When I hear that it hung at that point, that has in the past meant that 100% of the time another piece of software is preventing it from doing that.

Did you try just running the Uninstall link we provide for you in your Start folder? Or using Add/Remove programs? Note that your original method of just deleting the game and running the registry cleaner may have "broken" the uninstall process. Windows is fun that way. Are you comfortable with manually editing your registry?

1. The program does NOT install (although I can still run the EiANW exe from the folder to get the error and opening page with "PLAY" and the list of options, etc) so therefore there is no Desktop Icon, no Startup folder, does not show in Add/Remove programs, etc, etc...

2. There was no way for me to "break" it since it was never installed on this OS to begin with so I'm confused by what you mean. The "method" I used was the only one available to me since it was a CLEAN INSTALL OF AN OS.

3. Yes, I am very comfortable with manually editing the registry.

I believe that I resolved this by going in and shutting down as many "Services" as Windows would let me. Thanks for the help Erik and Marshall, much appreciated!

Yeah, that would be about right if the install hung before it finished. I thought your first installation was complete though.

Ok, I didn't understand this, sorry. I thought you were just switching from one drive to the other and hadn't properly uninstalled the first installation.
