Official word on the map

This revised and updated turn-based grand strategy game from the team at AGEOD brings players back to World War I, including both the Eastern and Western fronts and over 4 campaigns and 10 scenarios. As either a member of the Central Powers, the Entente or a neutral nation, players will confront the epic gauntlet of military and political challenges that faced the likes of Kitchener, Joffre, Luddendorf, Clemenceau, Czar Nicholas II or Enver Pasha.

The map SUCKS! It does not get better with play! I know the geography of Europe like the back of my hand, and this still screws me up. And for NO REAL REASON! The excuses over at ageod are just ridiculous. Add the lousy coloring and lack of good territorial distinctions with small buttons, huge pointer, small sweetspots to click, fast flashing messages in broken english and a smattering of french. Not to mention that they just couldn't be bothered with a proper manual.CRAP!!
I cannot believe it was released like this! I really want some of what they were smoking when the designers thought turning the map,and releasing game without a workable manual, was a good idea.
AGEODS solution--here are some files you could add,if you do this and that and turn this off or that off. There are even options that they put in that you cannot use now!!WTF
They got my money, now I have to play tester, and correct their mistakes and mess with game files. The computer game industry continues to get away with selling broken products.
I guess I've played enough years to know better than to listen to pre release hype, but I really was looking forward to this game.
There really is no excuse for releasing this game like this, other than greed to be out before the holidays. and to make it in time for Armistace day, READY OR NOT!

I was wondering about the map thing myself[:D] Its got me all screwed up[X(]

Either from devs or users...

I've heard it's at an angle...I want to ask the devs...
Is this going to be altered

And I want to ask users
Do you get used to it

Hearing about the angle it's on is really putting me off at the moment...I'd like to hear either it's getting fixed or it becomes transparent after some use.

The map situation is not a game breaker for me. I don't care for it, but it is usable. The most irritating thing is working on the Eastern Front. If you are viewing Galicia and want to check out your units around East Prussia, you need to remember to go towards Berlin, otherwise you will end up in Moscow or beyond. The Western Front is much easier to deal with, as you can see most of it at a glance-same with Serbia.

Bought the game one day pre patch. I played through most of the small scenarios several times and now I am at the start of 1915 in my first campaign game. The map orientation is a non issue to me.

Although I was also worried about the map prior to my purchase. The game is still technical a little rough around the edges, but I got used to it quite fast. If you are sensible about the mentioned issues in other threads, for example the small hot spots to merge corps, this could be a hazzle for you, possibly more than the map orientation. I am enjoying the game already in its current status, although I am looking forward to the planned improvements.

I for one like especially the presentation and atmosphere of the game. And the (appreciated and welcomed) depth and detail of the game present much more of a challenge to me, than the map orientation.

Regards

P.S. I enjoyed Ageods ACW a lot(a piece of art) and I think WWO will provide a similar experience for me. (Not only entertainment, but especially motiviation to learn more about the time period as well)

I probably could get used to the map, but I have to agree with the issues vonRocko mentions. This one seems to have been pushed out the door before it was ready.

Add to the list general instability (even after the 1.04 update), and it is unncessesarilly hard to to tell which units belong to which country. The flags at the unit bases and uniforms are just too subtle for me. (Yes I have have used the alternate display options. They are functional, but are also obviously tacked on and are themselves unpolished.)

I still have my hopes for this one, but I am moving on to something else for a while until the basic flaws get addressed. Without proper documentation and a lot of technical help, I can't even get to the issues of how good the AI is, or what constitutes good play or bad play. But at this time, the one thing that is clear is that the game does not pass the most basic hurdle of all -- is it fun? No, in its current form, it is definately not fun to play. It is unstable. It is mostly undocumented. And it is not player-friendly.

I still have hopes for this game but will hold off until it is ready. Kind of out of character for me[;)]

But I am finding that more and more my own personal mode. I am now waiting about a year before I purchase a game title. I have done that on the last 3 purchases and it seemed to be a good idea.

Oddly enough, I might just go with GOA now, and maybe pick this title up next summer or something like that.

P.S.

I only looked at a screenshot of the Euro map for this game ONCE over at the Ageod site. And, I just can't erase it from my mind. It still grates on me, and is recalled from long-term memory, even when I am doing non-computer related activities like shopping at the mall.

The map issue is just one of the reasons for keeping my wallet closed (for now anyway).  Going to wait for the demo, which should be coming in the next month or so...

Did the demo ever come out, or is it upside down too?

A demo may be released next Monday.

I will say that the map does take some getting used to, but it is not that difficult. The flat maps that are typically used in games are not really all that accurate or true (especially in strategic level games)-it is just that we are used to those. There are no plans to change the map, so if it will drive you crazy looking at it, there is no point in buying it.
