Rob the HM is working fine.

When you smooth the HM be sure to use the biggest brush and intensity setting otherwise you will be smoothing all day [:D]

Don't look at MM temp files. They don't help. Look at the final product!

MM saves the base imported heightmap as a backup, so what you see in the map dir is not what you get onscreen or in your map. The "real"65x65 smoothed version is stored inside the MM save file.

Rob,

If it makes you feel any better I can add what you are looking for into RC3, but it won't change anything.

[:D] .... Ok ... yet another procedural error on my part ... Yeah ... DOH!! I had forgotten the height map "brushes" were connected to the "smooth" button which is connected to the backbone which is connected to the brain stem .... My brain isn't connected [:)]. Hence why my maps looked like Lego-brand maps!

Anyway ... Ahem, did I tell you haven't had any problems yet? [;)]

Oh wait ... For real ... Yes .... When I load MM up from a cold start it "sometimes" tells me that Google is Offline. Unfortunately there's no way to refresh MM to check again ... I have to close MM and start again ... no problem after that .... seen this twice.

No ... no ... no ... Don't make a change. I'll have to see if Rick's Manual has a section for "DOHS!

BTW, now that I'm using MM properly ... and for comparison .... 2-3 Clicks of LARGE change = 64x64 image ... Yeah, I compared my 64x64 paint shop convertion to clicks ... spot on!

Thanks!

Yes, we could use a clean up of the folder names and categories. I'll take a look at what I have in there and think about how it could be better organized.

The two extra folders- look at the file names when you go t select a model in the MM- you should see two of each of these folders, but the duplicates will just have _thumbnails as the suffix. It's just a redundancy. I cleaned out my mod folder prior to install, so I'm pretty sure that it isn't my installing another folder copy.

For example- "German Houses" folder will have all of the same thumbnails as "German Houses Thumbnails". Same for the "Urban and Factory".

Looking great otherwise. The texture settings are great. TOO much freedom now! The mind reels...

It seems the change from RC1 to RC2 also changed the way some of the existing projects textures look.

I went in to see affect of water transparency (opacity?) and the map I had been working on was now a lot greener. A whole lot greener.

Were some the the textures themselves changed? It's almost like the base terrain texture is now 'stronger', if that makes any sense.

I can try and post some before and after pics if that would help.

Since we can now edit textures, probably doesnt matter. but it was a shock.

But perhaps this is only happening for me (maybe my video card ?).

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, I think way back when Bil H did some texture mods for Erik. He updates the dds but not the bitmaps.

What MM does now is to go an use the original bitmap (which has more info that the dds) and then process it to make an on the fly dds (which is much kinder on video card memory). So in answer to your Q yes, the textures will look different with RC2. However as you have noted you can adjust the properties of the textures to get back to whatever you want.

Rick,

Because some people may want their old maps to look the same or use the older (standard) DDS textures, I have fixed MM so that it will use the old textures by default *unless* you make some texture processing changes. For RC3 release.

Thanks!

I might have some things to add to the textures. I just did some tests on the hue/saturation, and came up with a few variations that may be good. I'll put up a link later.

In the spirit of reducing clutter in the folders, do we need all of the textures in the main folder? There are some in there that are kind of odd- factory roof for one.

Here's pic showing a pond with the water transparency (opacity) lowered to .4 from std .6

This is from pond in the MM Guide (there was a destroyed Russian tank I didn't bother deleting since it was submerged and not visible - but with the ability to change the water opacity - this could have some neat uses.

Here are some adjusted values for the new textures to evaluate:

Be sure to back up the originals before installing.

I'm having a problem with this map I have just started:

http://www.2shared.com/file/4716823/7f8 ... ponya.html

I can't get my trees to show up in any but 2 spots. I checked the color values of the area I designated them to be auto placed on, and it's one uniform color. Probably something I'm doing, but I can't figure it out.

Ben, when I try to import the map from the Soponya file, I'm getting the greater than 32 colors error message.

I can delete it, then re-import but I won't have any terrain colors you added (like the paved road) but i don't need them maybe?. (did you use 8 color for default import?)

I was getting that error as well, but I just rebuilt the map and it went away (the shift-click on the "build" button). I put that down to the fact that I would change the terrain map, and then check it in the MM (which would require a rebuild).

Ben,

If you look at the color mapping control, it looks like you have about 34 colors on the terrain map.

I'm not sure that your getting your trees assigned to the color you really want them on. They maight be getting assigned to a color thats really only very small area.

I don't see how that's possible. I selected the "8 color" selection on import to the MM, and have added no more than 3 additional. I've gone through in PSD to check with the eyedropper for variations, and don't see anything subtle that I may have missed.
