3.9.x issue?

Post by incredibletwo »

Hi there,
I'm playing a scenario under 3.9.4. When I choose a loadout for aircraft and am asked the number to ready, there is always an extra aircraft there, e.g. 2 aircraft on the platform, but three to choose. It doesn't happen when there is only 1 aircraft available. It also happened when I ran 3.9.3. This is the first time I noticed it.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Not sure if this is related, but just now I got a surface search sensor ring from a surface group, and from one ship only. It remains even when I go passive with my radars. In unit view, it's not there; only in group view.

I've not seen your first reported behavior. But I'll check!

Your second point is a know bug. Sensor rings work correct for individual ships, but not for groups. When you go passive on a group, the radar does go off, but it needs a course change for the group before that becomes visible (don't ask me why). Same is true when switching radars on.

Thanks mate.
My first reported bug occurred in any scenario I played in 3.9.3/4.

Sorry, but I cannot replicate it. When I hit Ready aircraft, click on a group of 4, the menu will suggest 4.

To replicate it should I just start a game and ready some aircraft with a new loadout? Could you put up some screenshots?

Howdy incredibleTwo,

What database are you playing with? Which planes at which base give you the behavior?

Thanks,

This bug has been reported.
Incorrect number to be readied

When aircraft are ordered to change loadout for Minimal mission, an incorrect number of planes is recommended in the message window.

This could be the result of a couple of things. There was a previous bug reported:
Range rings appears when none should

Radar range rings displayed for air group when radar is passive.
But it appears to have been resolved.

Another possibility is that you only 'think' that you have turned off the various radar for that group. This is also a known problem.

A common design technique found in PlayersDB scenarios, is to have one or more ships of a group assigned to active radar/sonar. When you go to the Group Icon and order it 'off', sometimes not all units in that group will obey the command.

There is a simple work around, though. Go to the Unit display and select the ship that you think is still active. Then, give it an individual order to go Passive with F9. It may be annoying, but this is generally how I get around it.

Yeah mate, that's all you have to do. How do I take a screenshot? I'll get on it tonight.

I'm using the PlayersDB; this has happened under both 3.9.3 and 3.9.4; it happens anytime I want to ready more than 1 aircraft at any air facility (land or sea-based).

Herman,
Thanks for that. However, it's also happening when I assign combat loadouts, not just minimal.
As for the range ring, it was only there in group view and when I went to unit view it wasn't. It was a surface search range ring, and I did check each ship individually in unit view. All were passive. Then, when I went back to group view, there it was again.

Alt+F1 puts a *.PCX screenshot in a folder called Screenshots inside your ANW main folder. You can also use the Pull down menu. You might need a utility that converts the *.PCX format to the more common *.GIF or *.JPEG format.

I can understand that it might happen to loadouts other than Minimal. The test file was simply the first and easiest instance I found to demonstrate the bug.

If you see the range ring problem, again, just save the game file, zip it up and post it to the Support sub-forum. It accepts *.zip files.

I have another hypothesis regarding this situation. As you can see from the attached image, there is a group with a surface search range ring.

All the ships within the group are passive. However, there is a helo on patrol with its radar active and it is responsible for the surface search range ring. Could this be an explanation for your reported phenomenon?

As always, a saved game file would likely yield the answer much quicker.

Hello again,

Here's that ready number thing I was talking about. Herman said it has already been reported but here's a pic anyway.
The aircraft I was readying were the 2 MiG-25RBS Foxbat D's. As you can see, there are only 2 available, yet "3" appears in the little box.

I played again tonight, tried to repeat what happened but to avail. I never have aircraft on patrol in surface groups, so it wasn't a helo. If it happens again, I'll save and send it.

Just realized that you are playing Georgian War! How is it going? Tough enough?

The OoB from that scenario was generously contributed by CV32 (Brad Leyte) and graciously test by Freek Schepers and Ralf Koelbach, two stalwarts within the community.

Is it any fun? All feedback is always appreciated.

I loaded it using 3.9.4 and it was lagging a little. I don't know if that was my machine or not. I haven't tried it again since then. It was tough by the look of it! I tried to shoot down something fast (don't want to give anything away). Had heaps of AAA units have a crack. They got one of them, but the other escaped, then the lagging hit....
I'll try again, to be sure! Thanks for that and all the others that you've done.

P.S. What's the go with refuelling airgroups? Not possible anymore?

Re-fueling air groups (as opposed to individual planes at a time) is supposedly possible. I've never bothered to try. You can be the first to test to see if that claim is true or not. [:)]

The lag may be caused by a couple of different things. Sometimes, if there are many targets (i.e. missiles) in the air, the game can lag. Also, if you have units with very large Uncertainty Zones, the AI lags while trying to keep track of them all. You can drop some of the contacts by selecting them and then hitting '3' from the keypad to Drop Contact. Sometimes, that reduces the UZ and speeds things up.

I think refueling of groups/by groups was possible in 3.6 but has now been discontinued in ANW. When you try you get a message saying refueling only works for individual planes.

Howdy,

Refueling airgroups is still supported.

The logistics action (Hotkey F5) is made for ship to ship and helo to ship transfer, or Underway Replenishment. Air to air transfer, refueling from a tanker, should be used via the Air Operations button (or Hotkey F6). The next release will have this enforced. If you try to perform UnRep with aircraft then it will cancel and suggest you use F6.

The UnRep process uses a different capability set and different method of intercepting.

Thanks,
Russell

Are you saying that HIFR (Helicopter-Inflight Re-fueling) is now possible? That would be neat, indeed. [8D]

Just tested unsuccessfully. [:(]

Made simple test scenario with Oceanhawk USN 88 helo and (modified) Underwood USN 01. Both units have HIFR-capability enabled in database. I added Aviation Fuel to the Underwood so that it had something to transfer.

When helo was ordered to replenish from FFG, message logged was:

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. What could I be missing? Could the altitude difference between the helo and the ship be preventing the intercept?
