They look like, are the size of and about as effective as the little plastic bathtub boats I remember playing with when I was a rugrat.

I think those guys are the smart ones...they were ready to bail out in case the tanks sank.

Obviously, Admiral ("Hey, I'm Dana Andrews, and I was pretty good in film noir movies before my career disintegrated, wasn't I") Broderick's greatest fear has been realized - the Japs have landed two coffee-grinders-cum-tankettes on Oahu, and they're coming to get him!
Maybe Rock's force ("Mac, they hit the croozer") should have been positioned to repel an invasion ... then maybe we wouldn't have had to put up with watching Pat "hookjaw" Neal, Hugh "Japs, my god, they're Japs" O'brien, Tom "couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag" Tryon, Brandon "I got this part because my old man's a big wheel" de Wilde, Burgess "I'm shorter after I stand up getting out of a car than I was sitting in it, but I made a heckuva Penguin later in the Batman TV series, didn't I" Meredith, Carroll "I know I'm a disgusting wimp in this role, but you might like me later as Archie Bunker" O'Conner, George "I'm a lousy marine now, but later on, I get to feed boiled eggs to Paul Newman and win an Oscar" Kennedy, Hank "It was fun to boss 'The Duke' around, but I ain't no CINCPAC" Fonda, Kirk "I don't have my lines memorized or understand anything about this movie, but I'm having fun on this all-expenses paid trip to Hawai'i" Douglas, Otto "Jeez, I loved playing with my plywood boats there at the end, but it stank up the whole movie, didn't it" Preminger, and a cast of dozens.
Oh. Let's not forget the two forgettable blondes, who probably had better roles to play off-screen during the filming than on, considering that the movie made them as close to Kirk Douglas as the camera angles made him look like he was anywhere near six feet tall.
Then, there was Ewing. No, not Patrick, the guy from "Dallas." And "I Dream of Jeannie." Larry Hagman. Now, there was a blonde you could go swimming in a tidal pool with ... Not Larry Hagman, I mean Barbara Eden.

Against infantry with no anti-tank capability, I'm sure they were adequate to do the job. One of those "in the valley of the blind, the one eyed is king" deals.
Look at some of the armor the Germans used in 1939 and 1940. The Panzer I didn't even have a cannon.

And they sucked. You could take out tankette garbage like the Type 94 or the Pz I with a machine gun. Spain showed that.

how managed the German to overrun Poland, France, Greece, Yugoslavia, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium and a huge part of the Soviet Union with their garbage? Following your statements (that pretty much are always the same as soon as Brady posts a pic showing one of the tankettes) the German would have never been able to overrun France in a couple of weeks, nor would the Japanese been able to overrun Malaya or any other area after the war started.
Except "some" Pz IV, I can´t see the German having anything that you would have called a tank in the years from the war´s start until mid 41 early 42. While the Japanese of course never had something that could be called a tank in your world.
Didn´t Denmark have some machine guns to take out some of the Nazi garbage coming over to take out the whole country without a fight? Just curios [&:]
When the Nazis really had TANKS, they achieved more or less nothing anymore on the offense in the long run.
Two pieces of crap scrap metal that rolled through Poland. But the Polish didn´t field machine guns, hence they were overrun... [;)]

I´m not arguing that German or Japanese tanks or tankettes were the best you could imagine in terms of tanks in WWII but they were surely adequate to what they were used for and IMO they achieved far more than any of the later models in the war.

RE: Name This AE...355
The Germans had inferior armor, but had superior tactics when it came to using them. This was never truer than 1940 in France and in Russia when they ran into the T-34A and beat it using PzIIIGs & Hs (50mm guns).

Never pretended that the Germans didn't have superior tactics, they did. They also had fully integrated the use of radio on all levels of their armoured formations, which made a huge difference.
That doesn't mean that the Pz I, and all other tankettes like it, weren't garbage. The fan-boyism of people like you, Castor, doesn't make an iota of difference.

Indeed. Without air support every meter gained by Germans was bloody. With proper AT element, polish infantry could handle any "light" division, and with careful planning - the "panzer" division. It's all about combined arms...
I suppose none of you heard about Battle of Mokra... it's a fine example of failure in combining arms: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mokra
