Another Tiger Trivia Question
I believe Hungary received 3 Tigers in 1944. Does anyone know what became of these tanks and if they were ever committed to battle?

Here's a start....
see this link, bottom of page. It a place to start and it at least tells us the time they were transferred and from what unit they were originally pulled from.

I'll see what else I can find!

The only documented fact is that "on 22 July 1944, three Tiger Is left the ordnance depot by rail for delivery to the Hungarian Army. In addition, an unknown number of Tiger Is were acquired from the sPzAbt.503 or the 509th who had been assigned to train the Hungarian crews."
It seems that those Tigers were sold to Hungary, but I couldn't find any info on what happened to them. In my opinion, if they ever arrived in Hungary, they were taken back by the Germans and assigned to some Whermacht or Waffen SS unit, most probably a sPzAbt, but I can only guess...
I never found anything about any fighting action of an Hungarian Tiger unit. However, they were trained on the Tiger, there are photos of Hungarian crews being trained by German crews in 1944. I have one posted at http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/tigers-02.htm.
I also would like to know what happened to those Tigers...

ROTFL. I can just picture Fabs with a sand box full of Tigers!
Sort of like my pre-occupation with Avalon Hill stuff a long while back. The boardgame would be set up permanently for periodic study while waiting for the pbem to arrive via snail mail.
BTW, combat was resolved using stock market quotes. Remember?

Redleg:
The Avalon Hill (board) games I used had to do with railroads (was an HO modeler) and I have bad memories of a game that was supposed to be even sided (sorry I don't remember AH name). Well the wife said that don't look too bad and challenged me. She set up a system of moves that became unbeatable, so much so that AH asked for her movements and verified that she really did have an unbeatable system, they pulled the game from circulation and sent HER 2 free AH games for proving them wrong. We also got to keep the original but I never played against her again.

Re: Kitty Box ?
Yep. I have "some" sandboxes, but the one you're talking about have a full sPz.Kompanie (14 Tigers + 1 "Stab" Tiger) and a LOT of Soviet Tanks to match. All older 1:72/1:76 models...Originally posted by chief

I did it whan I was a lot younger and could see the small parts...
Now I have a lot of Roco Minitanks. They are small, but are really easy to set up. I have four on top of my monitor: a Leopard 2A4, a Tiger I (early), a M1A2 Abrams and a brand new Leopard 2A6 with the new 120mm L/55 gun (received last Thursday).
A small note: My wife hates my models even more than my computer wargaming. I never managed to understand why...

Just a quess
Fabio: I was really kidding about the sandbox and kitties, but it seems I was closer to the thruth then I realized.
She dosen't like your models because they collect dust, now when I modeled HO trains I told my wife that the dust was road grime, you can use the excuse that its camo.
Have a good evening and thanks for your sense of humor.
