Things aren´t looking too bright, but the line is holding and local counterattacks show limited success. We may be unable to win on this field, but we aren´t defeated!:p

The advancing Rangers are met with steel and withdraw after taking severe casualities. The soviet line has stabilised, and we are well prepared for further american audacity. If they want to take us out, they´ll have to try harder!

Take this!

Post by Scharfschütze »

Heavy fighting all along the line. Concentrated fire takes out another Pershing, that makes for a total of five destroyed. Nowhere near enough, but not as bad as in the first few turns that were disastrous in this aspect. The enemy infantry is bleeding itself white against my Guards, which is in turn suffering from the M26´s attention. How long will courage prevail against cold steel?

Those Rangers have just been provided with several more reasons to get at those mortars:p

Otherwise this is getting ugly. Pershing tanks are running amok, and one of the few tanks I´ve got left finds itself damaged by an enemy bazooka that moves up into a clear hex two hexes away where they can be seen by:

Three (3!) Guards infantry squads
One crew
One Recon Patrol
One BA-11 scout car
One 12,7mm HMG some 20odd hexes away
and, of course, the T-44 tank

The above units where at most 4 hexes away, some as close as two hexes away from the clear hex the M9 team moved into.

You´d expect it to die messily, right?

You bet!

No one saw it.

The M9 fires.

Misses.
:)

Well, with that many (unsuppressed!) troops around, the M9 should be superdead now, right?

Wrong!

Sporadic fire, nothing conclusive. The HMG is actually most dangerous, with a 30odd hit%

The M9 fires again. 29% hit chance

It strikes true!
penetrates!!
and seriously damages the T-44!!!

Combine that kind of bad luck with my troops unwillingness to engage targets moving into their LOS and you have the situation like mine... but I´ll fight on! My artillery is hurting the americans, and I´ve still got troops enough left.

And this is a great opportunity to get rid of my bad luck for the next few battles:D

Our troops continue to advance and we are 5-6 Hex from his Homeland :D

Rugged defence!

Post by Scharfschütze »

This has the feeling of 1941 for my soviets: Heavy tank losses, the enemy is pushing onwards without mercy, but they pay a heavy price for every step taken, every house occupied and every wood cleared. Wherever the americans are reeling from our glorious 160mm mortar shelling, we counterattack, with mixed results.

And sometimes we are lucky, and a Pershing that survived three infantry assaults is blown apart as a superheavy mortar projectile rips through its front turret:eek:

Try to pull that trick with a 50mm mortar :D

And I just had to blow up that ammo dump...just to watch the explosion:D ;) :D

The US president with speech to the Nation!

Post by Rokondo »

“We are in war – the soviets are losing the ground to us and the are all panic
It’s time for the soviets people to change the regime of Stalin.
He took you to bloody war and you are losing – I calling for here to all of you.
Put your guns down and just surrender no harm will happen to you.
Our troops will take care of you and for every gun you give = more freedom for your country.
Time to surrender “

It’s time to think about the day after Stalin ;)

Our troops fighting & advancing with artillery only you cannot win this war.
Time to surrender! :D :D :D

We stand firm!

Post by Scharfschütze »

The commissars are out with our brave fighting men to counter the U.S. propaganda. The soldiers of the Red Army know full well that sometimes great sacrifices have to be made to ensure victory.

While we cannot deny that the enemy tanks are wearing on our infantry, they are getting fewer in number: Another Pershing falls to a ISU-122´s gun, and in the north our glorious soldiers torch the engine of a overly audacious M26, immoblizing it and hopefully killing a few of the crew (**hull damage). :p :p

Our mortars are still firing, with predictale results: Several more dead Rangers:D

Total Annihilation

Post by Rokondo »

The call of the president to surrender is over!
The Red army continues to fight – This mean that Total Annihilation will be.
We will kill all the Red troops – No option to surrender this time :D

In the north we kill few Red units.

In the center we kill one Red unit.

In the south hill we mange to hit the last tank main turret (I think it’s the last one – I did not see any tanks for many turns)
Our troops kill many Red troops.

(Read what I write in the World Cup for you) :D

The day the Rangers died...

Post by Scharfschütze »

We are regrouping, ready to meet the inevitable onslaught. High command has ordered our force to hold this sector at all costs, and the cost is high and rising.

But we will fight.

The enemy´s losses are mounting, and the time will come when their strength is gone.

We hope.

Run > Run if you can

Post by Rokondo »

The Red army starts to run back to Russia.
Stalin went to his bunker! (He know that he will be hung for this war)

In the north we kill the last red unit who was there.

In the center 1 enemy tank is burning & few red army units disappear. :D
Our troops are knocking on the doors of Moscow.

In the south no resistance & our troops continue to advance.

That tank was lost due to cursed luck... again!

Lets see:

A Pershing moves down a road, some 20odd hexes away. As planned, I might say, a ISU tank destroyer was waiting for it.

The ISU-122s fires.

48% hit chance:cool:

Misses:mad:

The Pershing apparantly can´t see it:D . moves another hex up the road, the ISU fires again

74% hit chance, looking really good:cool:

Misses again

Now the M26 had figured out where the shells are coming, and returns fire.

22% hit chance:(

AND HITS!!!

and, of course, manages to penetrate with Pen 177 vs. 174 armour.

I hate it when this happens.

I got my revenge on another Pershing though that took a 34% RPG-3 through its rear hull. Otherwise, we are preparing for a last stand, unable to control the Pershing menace. We are going down, but some will go with us!!!

This is the end...

Post by Scharfschütze »

After weeks of vicious battles in the heart of Germany, the two fighting giants are exhausted. The Soviet Union, still ravaged by the war against Hitler, is unable to press the attack against fierce american counterattacks. In the United States, the shocking amount of casualities of the war in Europe lead to public opinion turning against a continuation of the war that is only now swinging in the U.S. favour. The counteroffensive is no longer pressed and quickly loses its momentum.

The two huge warmachines slowly grind to a halt.

Meanwhile, in early August, in another theater almost forgotten, the United States detonate new weapons of unheard of destructiveness over the japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan is forced to surrender.

The example is understood in Moscow. A peace treaty is negotiated and Germany divided into a larger western and a smaller eastern part along the current front lines.

Soviet scientists soon develop a nuclear weapon themselves, and an era which will be called the "Cold War" sets in...

I received a thorough drubbing in this one. Rokondo took all the mid-map objectives, only my rear VHs are still under my control. Of the two companies of Guards Infantry I deployed, only a reinforced platoon remains. The mighty IS-3 tanks are burning, as are all the powerful ISU-122s tank destroyers except for two, one with its main gun shot out. The T-44 and T-34 tanks are fiercely aflame also.

I felt like surrendering about ten turns ago, when very few Pershings had been destroyed and many of my tanks were dead. But something kept me from bugging out and so i fought until the bitter end, wearing the enemy down. The american losses began mounting, which further encouraged me. But the end was coming anyways. The line was no more, and everyone (those that still lived, that is) was retreating towards the rear VHs in the town for a final stand. but with just one fresh platoon and those badly mauled survivors, I wouldnt have lasted long.

Congratulations, Rokondo, you beat me!

I cant wait for the rematch...:D

Rokondo is truly a very skillful player, World Cup opponents take care:cool:
