These planes are all "spare" aircraft and NOT considered part of the active complement..(I love this pic).

This pic shows replacements of all 3 types carried at this time, the one on the left being a TBD..

I always keep a spare SBD hanging from the rafters in my garage. Just in case some suspicious looking CV starts prowling the neighborhood. [8D]

The manual says that 'reserve' aircraft on carriers dont count against the number of planes you can have on a CV; and it specifically says that it is assumed they are 'hanging' above.

See page 148 of the manual.
