RtV game coming to an end.

From the front lines in France and Russia to the deserts of North Africa and the airfields and convoys of Britain, the campaigns of World War II are yours to command in WW2: Time of Wrath! This turn-based grand strategy title, the highly improved and expanded sequel to WW2: Road to Victory, puts the player in charge of the political, economic and military decisions of one or more Axis or Allied nations, including minor nations.

RtV game coming to an end.

Post by Uxbridge »

Just wanted to tell you all that our last three-player game of Road to Victory is now close to the end. We started it on the 5th January, ending in a turn or two, so one could say that it took almost eight months to play. Considering the same pace, and the fact that ToW will have twice as many turns, this means it will take almost one and a half year to finish a game of the latter. And that with no way to apply a major patch. Then maybe you all know why I want my fighters now, and not ina future patch. [8D]

Thinking back, however, I must say this is probably the first time ever that I have actually played a game of the entire WWII to an end. Normally the game always stops when the persons involved figure out that Germany can no longer win. Since I have played war games for 25 years now, this is very unique. Feel proud Wasteland! [:)]

Congrats! And Congrats to the other 2 mebers of your game as well. It's certainly unique to play the whole thing out. I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. I'm entirely new to the idea of PBEM games. I've hashed out games of axis & allies with some of my friends (years ago) but nothing over a few hours at most. I'd love to get into PBEM becasue it's got to be better than constantly beating an AI. My biggest concern is the time it takes to play and what sort of committment people usually expect. I've got a 9-5 job with a wife and family to see to so I might only be able to check-in at the end of the evening for a single turn. is this even feasible to most PBEMers?

Go look at the RtV forum for the AARS. I and about three other players completed several '39 campaigns PBEM. We generally did one turn an evening, but had the occasional breaks. ToW will take a little longer no doubt, but a turn in this game may take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete, if that much. PBEM with Time of Wrathe is imminently doable.

Quite feasible, I think. I'm a part time salesman, part time writer, working seven days and about 60 hours a week, with three kids, the smalest being still only four years old. For me, PBEM is the only way to play a game against other humans.

The great thing with PBEM - as long as everyone in the group accepts this - is that it doesn't have to be a commitment. You play the turn and send it. The next player plays it when he has time and send it on to the third, etcetera. One good thing with this is that you don't haste the turns the way a player that plays the AI does. Once you have the turn, you want to make the most out of it. Sometimes I take as long as an hour, maybe longer, to finnish a single turn.

We have a slight imbalance in our group, as one of us have less time to spare during weekends, while I and the third player have more time. This we solved by me and the third guy playing a parallell game in between the other turns. Works well. So if someone participating in a game feels that it is too long between the turns, its easy to just step into others games, playing other countries.

You must try it! [:)]
