Congrats! And Congrats to the other 2 mebers of your game as well. It's certainly unique to play the whole thing out. I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. I'm entirely new to the idea of PBEM games. I've hashed out games of axis & allies with some of my friends (years ago) but nothing over a few hours at most. I'd love to get into PBEM becasue it's got to be better than constantly beating an AI. My biggest concern is the time it takes to play and what sort of committment people usually expect. I've got a 9-5 job with a wife and family to see to so I might only be able to check-in at the end of the evening for a single turn. is this even feasible to most PBEMers?
Quite feasible, I think. I'm a part time salesman, part time writer, working seven days and about 60 hours a week, with three kids, the smalest being still only four years old. For me, PBEM is the
only way to play a game against other humans.
The great thing with PBEM - as long as everyone in the group accepts this - is that it doesn't have to be a commitment. You play the turn and send it. The next player plays it when he has time and send it on to the third, etcetera. One good thing with this is that you don't haste the turns the way a player that plays the AI does. Once you have the turn, you want to make the most out of it. Sometimes I take as long as an hour, maybe longer, to finnish a single turn.
We have a slight imbalance in our group, as one of us have less time to spare during weekends, while I and the third player have more time. This we solved by me and the third guy playing a parallell game in between the other turns. Works well. So if someone participating in a game feels that it is
too long between the turns, its easy to just step into others games, playing other countries.
You must try it! [:)]
