I am against those changes, as they will have a profound effect on Brazil, which i am playing currently ;)... Maybe if USA was nerfed alittle (playing those too, and wow, they can really pick and chose what they want to do, research blitz being my choice, and i almost have 2nd ww tanks in 1910!)

Speaking of the games i´m playing, China is a mess. It starts out with 1 pp and two cities that are too far away from their HQs to deliver their produce (Nanning and Chungyan?)... i think thats why the computer is having a tough time playing China. I am having a tough time too, but once the Chinese manpower engine starts, its possible to swamp the enemies surrounding it, and take both Korea and Hong Kong, along with Vietnam. BTW, there is no way China gets its fleet back once it loses it... it takes 20 turns to build a BB I. And China has really too few PP to spend on an airforce or navy.

Speaking of Navies. Its too bad that the AI seems to be willing to build only cheap ships, that does make certain that once you dominate the seas, then you won´t lose it again. I like the navy system as it is, but not having a competent human to play against, i´d say that i still have alot to learn...

Smaller things that i don´t like... That tanks aren´t able to carry troops... I guess this is historically correct, and you have to build trucks/halftracks to make up for this, but they seem so expensive, and carry very little. Maybe if they carried more, i wouldn´t mind as much. But making a fast mobile army is really expensive, even when you get heavy trucks.

Oh and the picture for rifle II... i don´t like it. Any chance of a change?

-It´s actually accurate that the cost to build a fully motorized army is too high, that´s why both the Read Army and the Germans relied on horses for most transportation tasks.
-I can replace the Rifle II unit, if you could give me WWII (or interwar) picture with soldiers using semiautomatic rifles.
-I will check the troubles you noticed for China, maybe I give them extra HQ´s, but remember, China was a very weak country in 1900, it was essentially a semicolonial country. What I could do is to give them the ability to produce cheap infantry, I will take a look on how to do it...

Oh ok,
If you want it to be that realistic, i guess you won´t change that :)

Anyway, China is still playable, even with the little kinks i mentioned. I have played them now, as they are, and beat back the AI on two fronts, well more like 3 fronts. And China is now at a point where it needs to decide if they want to take india, malayasia, or go for broke and try and take the northern russian provinces. (I'll probably go for India).

I have actually succeed in upgrading technology twice with them. And i don´t seem to be running out of infantry, or have a shortage of it... so don´t give them cheaper infantry, it would be a waste.

I have some complaints about the USA, its too powerfull. Simply put, it has no real enemies, so its easy to defend (you could possibly put in a few military bases here and there to make more ports so it was harder to defend) or you might nerf New York and Washington DC some. Those 2 cities alone produce 70 pp if you want to make them do it. And they can easily upgrade all technologies to WW2 standards before 1915. Which is perhaps a bit too early.

I think that you´ve done an excellent job with the Mod otherwise, and i want to keep playing it. Next (when i get the time) i was considering playing Great Britain, to find out how it could be improved, and if it is really as bad as the AI plays it. (My guess is its not)... But i think its very realistic that if they where at war, on a global scale, like the scenario makes it, that they would lose their colonies...

Also, i was wondering if you could put some kind of military base on Greenland... if possible, one that appears around 1940, just like you want to make the panama channel appear.

Anyway, Its a nice mod, good work [&o]

A suggestion:

How about changing the cost for making a formation, from 1 to 0. They did this to WaW, and as far as i can tell, the biggest difference this has caused is that its now a bit easier for the AI... since it tends to build massive amounts of small units, for some reason.

I think the challenge in modelling the US in the pre WWI and pre WWII timeframe is related to the politics of the country at the time which in large prevented them from researching, developing, producing and thereby fielding a significant set of armed forces. Not sure what AT can do, but there can maybe be events that limit the PP for the US while the country is not at war, but boost the PP as soon as war is declared (regardless of by or on). That would model the comparatively weak military position prior to the two wars as well as the huge industrial potential once at war.

I will try to see what I could do to the USA. I think I could decrease the country´s industrial capacity or maybe give them a much smaller army, making harder to fight Canada. Anyway, the USA eventually become the dominant power of XX Century, so.....it´s not unrealistic to have a powerful USA

Actually i would tend to agree. The USA should dominate the game. In the game where i play them they pretty much have their way in south america, but they are not, i discovered, to my dismay, winning the game. Germany is. Maybe they need to be exactly as strong as they are now, to be able to intervene in the European conflict (In other words to conqour). I haven´t counted up the exact amount of victory points in Europe yet, but its really interesting to think that Germany might pull off a win (in 1915 or there about).

Also, i like how production costs decrease in the game. Its an elegant solution to the problem of economies getting better as time goes by. Plus, its probably realistic too :)

What worries me is the ability to do research at unrealistic rates. I´m considering a "progressive tax" on pp/turn, but I don´t know the event engine enough to do this

Idea is
01-10pp: no tax (01-10)
11-20pp: 10% tax (10-18)
21-50pp: 20% tax (17-40)
51-80pp: 30% tax (36-56)
81-100pp: 40% tax (49-60)
101-200pp: 50% tax (50-100)
201+: 60% tax

This would be realistic as it would simulate tech diffusion (copying a new idea is cheaper). What do you think?

You know there is more than one way to solve this. If I may make a suggestion for improvement, here it is:

Firstly, make it so that the AI spends 0 PPs for each formation it makes. You can probably only make this happen by allowing players to do the same. This would prevent the AI from spending all its PPs making stupid small units. Instead it would "force it" to use those PPs for research. That would make it harder to research blitz, cause the AI would be doing the same.

Secondly, increase the cost of all research by approximately 50%, to compensate for the non-cost of making formations. And simply increase the cost of research if this doesn´t balance out. You don´t need to make a taxing program, to make it harder to research, especially for the smaller Nations, such as Brazil, China and possibly Japan and Ottoman Empire (haven´t played those yet).

Some other observations:
I am trying to play Great Britain, and its not as hard as i expected. The AI hasn´t invaded England yet, and In america I have taken Seattle and San Francisco. So don´t beef up Britain yet... I think its just bad play by the AI allowing it to be taken.

Naval warfare seems cool, when playing Great Britain. Too bad that the AI has a tendancy to build only small ships.... and for some reason lots and lots of small cargoships. And those that aren´t are commerce raiders. They don´t stand a chance against battleships... Something has got to be done to make the AI build bigger ships, and less small ones. I think you can change the AIs preferance to build smaller ships in the SFT-types.

As for Air warfare, much the same can be said as the naval warfare. It seems pretty cool, but i have yet, in any of my games, to meet a single fighter. Might be something you can set an AI preference for building in the SFT-types.

Light Tanks: Developement stops after Light Tank II, which seems to be strange. In fact the tanks you have chosen to call light tanks are perhaps better described as Infantry Tanks, since they move at the speed of infantry. I was hoping to get Light Tanks III (PZ IIs) and build my forces around those with Brazil, but, that plan had to change cause of the research tree. Perhaps you could change the research tree to allow something akin to PZ IIs?

I think thats my two cents for now.... :)

EDIT: Maybe even increase research to 100%.

Perhaps an easy way to do this is to change the cost of PPs to the double amount, and then making it cost only 3 PPs pr headquarters.

Development doesn´t stop after Light Tank II, but it takes a while until you get light tanks III. I will take a look to the other suggestions you gave. Maybe 0pp´s for units and 1000 points for reserach would be a good idea

Yeah, feel free to try it :)

I think that bombur is setting up a game for some of us to playtest. But i am not sure. Anyway, i am still playtesting a few things, and once in a while i am going to add some more events...

But i am open to suggestions. A few things that i have in mind are, uprisings in conqoured territory, propaganda, and more diplomatic triggers.

A game will be started as soon ernieschwitz thinks the scenario is ready. There is a mistake in v0.50, as it lacks a picture. I sent the file back to ernie, so he can upgrade it.

I discovered a critical error in one of the scenarios events (with alittle help from Vic). It has been corrected, and a new version of Global Domination has been uploaded.

Feel free to playtest it...

Version F6C is ready for download. It upgrades graphics and units to Bombur mod v3d. This is an interim version, as much bigger changes are going to be prepared to v7.
