it happened again, same problem that Darkrenown has - screenshot here. I'd love to upload the save-game file, but it's ~24 MB in size :D

what did i do ? nothing other than zooming all the way into a star system to look at it's planets' details.

Atlana, please see the instructions at the top of this forum for uploading save files if you have a save file and a way to replicate this.

I'm having a similar problem as atlana in the picture. It seems to happen intermittently, usually when I am zooming in and out quickly with my mouse.

I have been getting "unhandled exceptions" when I click on certain menu buttons, especially the button for construction. If I click continue, the game doesn't crash, but I'm still unable to get access to the construction screen. I think it just happened with a different, screen, too.

I'll try reloading a save to see if I can reproduce it, and perhaps post more info here.

I think so; I just bought the game yesterday, and I thought I noticed v 1.02 somewhere. But I'll double-check next time I fire up the game -- probably tomorrow.

I get all these errors even with a small sized galaxy on 1.02 and virtually nothing happening. I had hoped it would be ok in a small map but evidently not. Still completely unplayable.

I also got my first unhandled exception problem today. Perhaps the game is running out of memory?

I am still on my first game and I have had the unhandled exception problem several times. Sometimes you can click on continue, then save the game, restart, load the save and continue. This has worked 50% of the time for me. If it has not saved correctly the save game will be a lot smaller. Seem to have hit a brick wall now though, my last save is over 120MB and nothing I try will get it to load.

The game is actually still running after the crash, I can play with the UI but the main map is just blank white with a red X through it, like a massive image that has failed to load. ...
I have had this same crash with 1.02. Once with the red X on white screen, another with just a black screen. I can still use the UI though. It did allow me to save my game if I hit continue on the crash popup. I could then reload and it seemed fine. I allowed the installer to update .net and directx.

This is with a corei5-750 ATI 4890 w/ Catalyst 10.2 drivers 4gb ram Windows 7 X64

I also just had this after playing 1.2 version of the game until 2768.I think I pressed the goto button on the ship menu screen that caused it.

Do you have win media player as your default player? I got same error but it was solved immediately after doing this (XP)

A side not is, i never use this crappy player, only VLC for me normally but i guesss i have to live with it since this game is absolutely great!

i got hit TWICE with an "JIT Exception" fault, played fine for about 1+ hour:

This all smells like Memory Leaks - I can assure you that according to my EVEREST ULTIMATE system snapshots/scanning through my Logitech G19 Keyboard, that over 70% of my 12 GB Ram are not used.

Note that all of today's games are designed to use only max 2gb memory (due to the 32bit structure). So there is no use in 12 gb ram, unless you want to have other applications running as well at the same time.

it's actually 4GB for 32bit programs, and not two GB :P and even so, a 64 bit PC/windows will "virtual machine" the needed Ram around, in which said case (except minus a few megabytes for the memory/paging pointers and tables) windows will make all 4 GB's available for that particular 32bit program w/o the 32bit program actually knowing about whats physically available for real. But since the TaskManager traced ~1.4 GB in ram usage (active/paged and non-paged/private/WorkingSet/CommittedSize) alltogether at the moment of the crash, it's far off the 2GB limit you mention.
