RE: Questions for the modders

Post by RyanCrierie »

So I'm looking at the phillipines; and by the time this scenario starts, they'd be pretty much independent -- the inauguration of the phillipine commonwealth on 15 November 1935 was part of a various set of US bills to set them on the road to independence in ten years.

So if we go by "Strict" reasoning, the Phillipines would be independent on 15 Nov. 45.

But....being able to declare independence on 4 July 1945 is too compelling.

I've been looking at the various plans that were to be implemented; and this is a short summary:

--------

Phillipine Army:

1 x Active Division of 10,000 men (Former Phillipine Division in the US Army -- it's already 95% filipino, you just need to replace the HQ and an infantry regiment and you're done)

10 x Reserve Divisions of 7,500 men each

Coastal defenses to be implemented at all of the seven straits which give access to the inland waters of the archipelago.

-----------------

Phillipine Navy:

1 or 2 x "Four Stacker" DDs.

Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 1 (PA) -- 12 Boats
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 2 (PA) -- 12 Boats
Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 3 (PA) -- 12 Boats

MacArthur wanted 36 PT Boats, which were to be 65 ft long, with a 13 ft beam, and a speed of 41 knots. Armament would be 2 x TT, depth charges and AA Guns. Apparently the USN organized it's PT Boats by squadrons of 12 to 16 boats...so...

I added in the four stackers, since they were cheaply available, once the flood of Fletchers begin to flood into the USN; they can be decommissioned, and then handed off to the Phillipines by the USN -- who are dubious of teh entire "PT BOATS WILL DEFEND THE PHILLIPINES" put forth by MacArthur's planning staff.

-------------------------------

Phillipine Army Air Forces (or Corps)

The plan called for ~100 light bombers 'supported by other tactical types', so I put this together:

1st Phillipine Fighter Group (3 squadrons of 25 planes each) - 75 planes
1st Phillipine Light Bomb Group (4 x Squadrons of 25 aircraft each) - 100 planes

Attached directly to PAAF HQ:
xth Phillipine Utility Squadron (C-47s or C-46s; plus maybe a few Liason Grasshoppers)
xth Phillipine Night Fighter Squadron (basically a detachment to patrol Manila at night)
