Custom Map Graphics
The Bulge Mapmaker doesn't seem to want to accept any of the custom map graphics that have been developed for the game. I've tried several different versions, having selected them in the "Map Data" dialogue box. Is this a known issue, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Paul,
The graphics are all those that are available for download from the official website:
http://cota.matrixgames.com/downloads/
I'd send them to you, but that would introduce some uncertainty as to whether I had mishandled them somehow.
Thanks for your help. [:)]

I'm guessing you haven't created the ground conditions folders inside your custom map folders. Place the custom graphics inside the Normal folder once you have done so and it should work.
edit: sorry meant ground conditions

Whoa, I've never done that before. I place the custom map graphics in graphics/maps and then browse for them in the map data dialogue. However, in BftB, it doesn't work. Let me give you an example using one of the map graphic file-sets from the website called "paper4":

However, having selected a graphics set as depicted in the path in both the JPG above and the one below, no custom graphics are displayed. Further, the graphics in the pane to the left disappear when I apply the graphic file-set to the map:

Is this new for BftB?
I ask because I've never had to do any of these sorts of things to use those graphics when making maps for CotA.

Yes.
It was changed to add support for different gfx depending on ground state.
Then a seperate folder for each gfx set, it would get to confusing otherwise.

I don't know if this is a new wrinkle or not, but the addition of the "normal" folder inside the graphics mod works in BFTB:
If this is all explained in the docs, forgive me. But, in self-defense I have to note that I've got half-a-dozen maps in my CotA install that use various graphics sets. And I swear that not one of the mods has that darn "normal" folder present.
Anyway, many and most profound thanks! [&o]

Sorry that I posted news of Plodder's bailing me out on top of your note.
I'm so thankful that I don't have to build those contours all over again!

Until next time!

RE: Custom Map Graphics
Hi Wodin,
I'm going to take a stab at it. I've got some excellent documentation, maps, OOB and the like. It's gonna take a while though. I've got to scratch build some vehicles, earlier models of AFV than those that appear in the Bulge estabs. I've also got to scratch build some units, like Rangers and the 1st SSF. In other instances, I'll probably just "doctor" units to have them be more reflective of the TOE of early-mid 1944. German infantry, for instance, will probably need its fangs reduced in size. [;)]
I think that I've mentioned somewhere that I've put together two new maps for this project, Anzio and Anzio Breakout. I'm going to start with the smaller one that's shown above. There will be three sets of scenarios for it:
1) The Allied landings and attempt to advance on Rome
2) The Axis offensives aimed at reducing the beachhead and driving the Allies into the sea
3) Operation Buffalo, the Allied May offensive that finally broke the German defenses and led to the liberation of Rome
All in all, I'm looking at 6-12 months worth of work on this one, whereupon, I'll see what I can do the much larger Anzio Breakout map and scenarios for it. I might even try my hand at a Salerno map and mini-campaign. That's way out, though, and will require that the Bulge game be patched so as to allow for larger maps.
That whole deal ought to keep me busy for a while.

Fantastic project idea!
Now you have me wondering about Dragoon and the whole southern France D-Day-Lite operation.

That would make an interesting map. The landings took place over a breadth of about 50km. To the east you'd find the Maritime Alps and to the west the Rhone Estuary, adding perhaps another 50km to its width. I'm not sure how far north you'd want it to go, Lyon perhaps? One thing's for certain; it'd be the biggest AA-map to date!ORIGINAL: Tophat1812

Hi again P of E,
Have you got the Graphics mods sorted ? I can get the changed graphics (Paper4) to show in MM & SM but they don't show up in the game itself. Any suggestions please ?
