New National Force Type: No Joy

Post by Prince of Eckmühl »

I thought that I'd take a stab at a new national force type, Commandos for the Brits:

Trouble is, the presence of these unit types crashes the scenario while loading.

Tips or pointers, PG?

Not sure- I haven't had a problem with new nations or services:

Well, I appear to have surmounted this obstacle as well.

This had nothing to do with the new BR Commando estab.

For whatever reason, the scenario didn't like my force structure.

First, I  narrowed the problem down to the Commando Bde HQ.

Then, I meddled a bit with the ranks of the officers commanding the different special forces formations.

Finally, I got the new Commando Bde fully operational by placing the super force marker (VI Corps HQ) on the map.

Voila, the scenario opened normally!

Furthermore, I was then able to remove the super-force marker and the scenario continues to open normally.

Just another hole in the road to Mandalay![;)]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Cota, I don't think there had to be an estab associated with the supreme force, so long as it was never on a reinforcement schedule or on the map.

I'm not sure about the estab/supreme force connection. I never tried it. But the supreme force definitely didn't have to appear on-map.

Hey, though, tell us about your heavy-cruiser![8D]

Just fooling around...
FEATURE REQUEST: Can we edit kMilSim**** files? I bet they're just .bmps somewhere, but I'd like to have, say, ahem, a little ship symbol.

I didn't yet bother to make the actual weapons in the editor, but here's some 'substitutes'. I was thinking of incorporating ships by creating a custom map paper where the 0 altitude layer is blue. Using the 'real' major water obstacle layer to create a boundary between the blue 0 alt layer (where the ships would operate), and every other altitude, where the land units operate. Then just use 'em like artillery.

I remember reading a discussion about this in the past, but I can't remember the precise details.

I'd think that you could just put an island in the middle of the lake/ocean, build a fort on it, give it an SEP, weapons and base, and let her rip!

Can I just say a big thanks for the work you two are putting in. If my life was a little more in order I'd be having ago...it will have to wait though.

PoE my hand is still offered in friendship....as it has since the PM.

I suggested something similar under COTA, in the following thread.
