I don' t think so. It would be sufficient for the basic game to use one portrait for one type of soldier like Musketier / Fusilier / Grenadier / Husar / Kürassier etc. etc. for every nation.
Ok, f.e the basic game of HPS Jena & Auerstaedt is using "only" 120 portraits for all armies.
But it is easy - and of course time-consuming - for modders to "inflate" the graphic file to historic correct 1:1.
Yes, the H&M vol. 1-engine with the wonderful editor etc. seems to be a shade more sophisticated and the original HPS games are graphically suboptimal too, but there is a bigger modding scene because the HPS-engine offers a bigger "graphic modding-playground"
In combination with the great 3D-unit pics of Prinz Heinrich it would be really a nice feature to see simulaneous the painted / scanned and reversed portrait of an individual unit.
To Magnus:
So it would be no problem to see buttons, knapsacks, laces and lapels etc. AND to move your great 3D-units.
BUT...gentlemen... this is only MY taste
