Oops, I do that all the time.  I'm terrible with names.  I've had to work extra hard to avoid calling my wife by the names of former girlfriends.  It was pretty tough at first, because I really do goof alot, but after 23 years I think I've pretty much got it down.

Nomad, did you get Renown and Prince of Wales sunk on turn one?  I did too in my game with Q-Ball.  I thought our house rule prevented me from moving any ships except those "at sea," and since the BBs were at Singapore I didn't touch them.  Then when they got sunk Q-Ball laughed at me (well, it felt like he did when he asked:  "Hey, did you forget about Force Z?" I felt like he was asking: "Hey, Dumazz, what's your problem you turkey?"). 

Anyhow, if somebody else did something like this it will make me feel much better.  Misery loves company.  Maybe I need to find a Cubs fan to commiserate with....

Well, yes I did lose Repulse and PoW on turn one. I didn't forget to move them. I forgot that there is only a day Naval movement phase on turn one. So they moved to Mersing as I wanted, but they did not retire back to Batavia, instead they are now delux fish housing just off shore from Mersing.

Both of our opponents got hit by a Mk 1 RL bomb. Hopefully the pace will pick up. Really wishing we had gone with 2 days turns

The USN went to IBA with 3 TF: one PT, one SCTF with 3 PG, and one SCTF with 4 old DD. The PT's got detected at 7000 yds and lost one of their number before retiring. The PG's just got mauled. THe DD's did pretty well losing Peary but setting two IJN DD on fire.

No new landings but Iba and Davao both fell. Kavieng is hanging by a thread. Invasion TF spoted near Tulagi and in the Bismark Sea. An ANZAC SCTF is approaching Tulagi.

Meanwhile ........ They're baaaack! KB is detected near Laysan Island. I fully expected this and have planned accordingly. PH AF is still over 50% damaged so I don't expect any heroics by th Hawaiian AF. Would be happy if we could get at least 10 hard kills out of it.

12 December 1941

KB diasappears. I have to wonder if our opponents thought I might be reinforcing Midway and were hoping for some cheap kills. Well I have conceded Midway, Wake, Johnson Is, Palmyra, Baker, etc until the HI are well defended. Once those are secured I will move outward. Not a lot going on this turn. My remaining surface uints plus teh MTB Ken sent down from Hong Kong tried to get at the TF's off Iba but the IJN SCTF either drove off or eliminated the Allied forces

Landings: Mauben SE of Manila, the small base SW of Palawan (why here?), more troops coming ashore at Iba, Lunga, and Shortlands. Our opponents seem to be using the same formula in both the PI and Malaya: only a token force at traditional landing sites and a rush forward.

My Anzac Force will hit Lunga next turn. A single CL will hit Shortlands.

Our opponents have let up on the neutralization of Clark Field which allowed me to score some good success this turn over Iba. There are Nates there on CAP and the P-40B/E are more than a match for them. Allies outscored the Japanese 23 to 13 in the air this turn with Nates making up 14 of the Japanese losses. That is not all on me as Ken killed quite a few down in Malaya. One P-36 score a hit on an AK off IBU (100lb bomb). B-17 hit nothing but there presence I hope is having at least a little intimidation affect

I did lose 3 xAKs and 3 xAKLs that were still fleeing from
Hong Kong.

Dutch subs did some good work this turn:
SS KXI put two torpedoes into xAK Tazan Maru with reported troop losses.

SS KXIII put two torpedoes into xAK Johore Maru.

SS KXIII puts three torpedeos into CM Kamome.

I would expect all three ships to sink.

In China I took Ichang after the Japanese left it open.

I still have no clue why they invaded Kendari on turn 1. They have done nothing with it and I am continuing to make air field attacks to train my bomber crews and inflict airfield damage, personal damage, and supply hits. ?????

And BTW, I think all of the stupid British MTBs sank this turn after doing nothing, zero, nada, zilch, etc.

And for the picture, you can see that they have cut the rail line just West of Mersing, but I have successfully moved all but 2 base forces that I intended to move into either Singapore or Johore Bahru.

Other news is that Burma is being evacuated, no reason to put low experience, low morale, under led, and under supplied, troops in the line of fire.

I continue to move Base Forces and Infantry to Palembang.

I am very happy with the air war so far. Here is a picture of the first page of total losses for the last week.
We are doing very well considering that many of our losses were on the ground the first day.

13-14 Decmber 1941

Two day of posts as not much action in my AOO. My SCTF moved into Lunga and battled a small IJN SCTF. No real damage to either side. This was a day time battle and the Aussie/Kiwi shooting was bad. These guys are moving off to Buna which was invaded and fell on the 14th.

Balabac (bear Palawan) fell. The IJN has invested CLark but are inferior to my AS 600 to 725. Both sides reinforcing I am sure. Mauban fell on the 13th and IJA troops are heading for Manila. My PT boats rtied to hit the transports off Iba but only ran afoul of an IJN SCTF with a BB in it.

KB continues to lurk off west of the HI.

Very happy with pilot training. AM conceding control of the waters off the US WC while I wait for my air units to train up. As they seem to gain skill only when training I think this is best

Just out of curiosity, whither have you guys sent the "Pensacola Convoy?" That's the convoy that starts the war at sea near Canton Island with a shipment onboard of artillery units and a few support troops originally bound for the Philippines and guarded by the CA Pensacola. It's been my experience that most Allied players just unload them in Australia somewhere and forget about them.

I noticed that they kept their capital ships in with the transports. BBs,CAs,CLs do not fight well
in a surface action. So I sent a 3xCL TF to stir things ups. I sand the DD Hibiki in exchange for
some damage to CL Danae - she should be fine, she is on the way to Batavia and then Colombo.

The Pensacola Convoy went to Suva. Don't have great justification for that other than it is what I always do going back to the WiTP days.

15 December 1944

Well what I failed to do at Shortlands or Lunga I accomplished at Buna. The Anzac cruisers roared in and cleared the seas before them. Nearly no escorts and about half a dozen AKL are gone. The ANZAc force is heading to Auckland for reloading where they will meet up with the aforementioned CA Pensacola.

No new invasions in my AOO. The US PT boats tried to intervene at Iba and withdrew fro combat. Three four piper DD's are guarding the entrance to Maubin in case our opponents try to reinfroce there. The AP carrying Asiatic FLeet HQ is making its way south past Sabang to Darwin before heading to Sydney.

KB went off grid but I suspect they continue to guard the appraoches to Wake. Very little in terms of susb sightings on the eastern portion of the map

Not a lot to report on the Western side of the map. Looks like their amphibious TF finally unloaded and left Mersing. Recon tells me there are 30 units in Mersing and 10 in Johoe Bahu. I'm afraid that Singapore will fall early, my mishandling of force Z is causing problems. [:@]

KB still off grid. I will start to worry in about three or four turns as the first convoys from CONTUS will be arriving. Two AMC tried to rough up a lowly AK about 300 nm N of Pago Pago. Only one shell hit. The US CVTF which are up near Christmas Island sprint south.

The ANZAC cruisers are moving out of the Coral Sea just in time. It appears a IJN SCTF is lurking at Shortlands now. A day late and a dollar short so they say.


The IJA tried a Deliberate Attack at Clark filed which came off at 1 to 2 and cost them 2400 to my 1300. More troops still moving in. Unit count at Iba is now 23! I discovered th USAAC fighter squadrons in the PI are all permanently restricted. Too bad as they have applied very little pressure here in terms of trying to wipe them out. Maybe they are being smart. Why attrit your forces down when you know the PAF and US units in PI will go poof as soon as the bases are captured. Never really considered that. Still we are whittling away at the enemy as we bag between 3 and 6 a/c every turn in fights over Iba.

I think I will put the B-17 on ground attack as tehy can't seem to hit anything at sea

Batangas and Lingayan both fell today. The Japanese AV at Clark Field is about 50 points lower today so they must have taken it on the chin. Still now feeling the squeeze as units move on Manila from the south and clark from the NW. Will probably start moving those sq that can be moved out next turn.

The image says it all. Must have cause some brief consternation at IJN HQ. Alas, no hits.

The US CVTF did not contact the raiders last turn. The sped is slowed as the transitionover to hunting. Lots of convoys heading both ways through French Polynesia

Not a good day. The IJA AV at Clark went from 700 to 1600 in one turn![X(] All the remaining air units are distributed elsewhere (Bataan, Manilla, Puerto Princess). Landing as far foward as the IJA did, there is little hope to build forts at Manila or Clark Field. The big bullies in the IJN intercepted my fleeing AM in the Sulu Sea nd sank 5 of 6. AM Whipperwill continues to run south.

Two I-boats entered the lagoon at Palmyra and put a total of 3 TT in CA San Francisco. She is disbanded with 91 float damage. The ENterprise and Lex had no luck in finding the AMC that were seen NW of Pago Pago two turns ago.

The only good news is the small AP with the Asiatic Fleet HQ will arrive Darwin next turn.

I am happy they are using so much of their surface combat ships to sink the ships fleeing from the PI.
Much like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly.

Another night of Naval Bombardment to try and disrupt the stack moving into Singapore.

Not a lot to report. A couple of S-boats each took out an AKL. My P-35 actually put a bomb into an AKL too! The IJA went for a Deliberate Attack and achieved a 1 to 1 result. Causualties were 2000 for Japan and 1600 for allies. The Forts were dropped to 0 but the engineers rebuilt them to 1 by the end of the turn.
