As for the game,..LarryP,..is it definately a good game. It is better than the orignal starcraft,.....with the MP part still needing to be worn in to be determined but looking good as well so far. They put more into the story this time,.....and have a few new features that really are more than just bells and whistles. As always with Blizzard I have heard of very few issues which arent on the users end,....aside from the overheating video card issue. There is no doubt that it is worth buying, if you like RTS games,.............the only question is how much its going to cost to get the other 2 campaigns...........

Thanks for the reply. How is the clickfest part? So many RTS games are just that, a ton of clicking. I found C&C to be that way and that's why I referred to it in my previous post. Too much for me. [:)]

As far as the price for the next two, I thought they would be the same as the first. $180 buys all three. Ouch! Hopefully not.

I said this before... If you play the very large scenarios in The Operational Art of War with hundreds of counters to set aggressiveness and give orders, it will also be a click fest. But I guess RTS is a clickfest with time constraints while TOAW is a clickfest without.

Well just hope it takes years to make the sequels or just wait for the bundle when the game gets old.

I don't mind click-fests if there is no time-constraint.  In fact, any time someone mentions click-fest, the first thing I assume is it is under a time-constraint.

Yes, off course it's time-constraint, as SC2 is addressing the e-sport scene.

The one reason to acquire this game would be, to refresh old memories if one enjoyed the original Starcraft. Hence I purchased it.

You noticed the price of new games is climbing up? This one is $60 and the CE is like $100. BftB $80, Elemental:War of Magic $60 and the CE $80, where does it stop? Have the $30-$40 games gone by the way of the doodo bird?

I just finished Starcraft II campaign, in Normal mode.

I loved it. This is a brilliant game. It has a very compelling story, and is very nicely done. The gameplay is an evolution of the original Starcraft, with new units and some changed behavior, but the graphics are all new - everything is 3D now. As I played the original several times, I appreciate that they kept the gameplay similar.

What I didn't like is that the game has a single Terrain campaign with 26 missions (down from 36 missions on the original), so it is really 1/3 of the real thing - they have already said that the Protoss and Zerg campaigns are on the way "soon". That sounds like a money grab to me - after waiting 12 years and paying $60, they could have delivered the whole storyline. Also, almost all missions in campaign have sort sort of time limit, so they can go quite fast.

But overall this game has incredible production, magnificent soundtrack and cinematics, and is certainly one of the best I ever played.

Well, since I've ditched RTS for turn-based strategy games, I don't have to get too upset over that.  Perhaps, one day when I am really bored, and I find the whole battle-chest for this in the 2$ bargain bin....

Just... possibly... I may give it a check over due to nostalgia.

I do remember the soundtrack also being magnificent for its time in the original, though nothing came close to the score for Panzer General 3D-SE :P

There is no need to go to SC2. The Broodwars Armageddon scenario's are all that are necessary for intense Starcraft Glory & Enlightenment. Great skill is required to resist my 12 years of extended, professional combat experience which cannot be delivered by vaccuous new fads or fluffy sales hype. SC2 is merely eye-candy for newbs.

Ok I've been reading reports that Starcraft II destorys your GPU.
Anyone of you experience it so far?

BTW, these games are common for popular games since more are playing and may have substandard hardware.

Last time I remember Gears of War doing this to the XBox.

I remember now about a decade ago, Blizzard tried to sneak in some trojan in one of the StarCraft packages, IIRC.  And when connected to the internet, it used to forward a lot of your private data and other sensitive issues with your registry, etc. back to their base.

Luckily someone in a university caught a lot of suspicious stuff being stolen and blew the whistle on Blizzard.  Let's just say... it's not a company I would trust anymore today than I did in the past.  They did ok games, it's just their ethics leave a lot of be weary of.

What do you mean destroy's your GPU? I'd like to know what on Earth you're talking about. I've built machines for 20 years and have no idea what you're referring to. Is this supposed to be a metaphor?

Ok not really "destory" but somthing in the program causes the GPU to overheat and shutdown.  There's a workaround (some framerate cap or invest in more cooling).

I have no clue what you are talking about. However the game does have a memory leak. I have to restart the game pretty often. But that could just be something to do with my set up.

Wow that's unreal. I've never heard of such a thing. Of course I'm no programmer. I didn't realize the programmers had so much control over your card's GPU. But I guess it makes sense if there's a file that dictates the behavior of the card.

Bad coding (instructions to the processor CPU and also GPU) can result into a memory leak, a fatal error, or even hardware failure.
But that's strange about this instance is that it's the static screens that are casusing the overheating instead of the dynamic 3D stuff.
