Battles from the Bulge v 4.1.232 Public Beta

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Battles from the Bulge v 4.1.232 Public Beta

Post by Andrew Loveridge »

Greetings All,

I am happy to announce a Public Beta for Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge! It is now available in the Members Club, in the Reserved Downloads section. You will need to create an account, if you haven't already, and register you copy of Battles from the Bulge, to get the update. It fixes a number of the crashes reported, and a few other issues. The full list is below. Please remember that this is a Beta Update, and we would appreciate any feedback you may have about it, so we can improve it if needed.

V4.1.232 – July 28, 2010

Game Issues Fixed:
  • Give order, let run, pause and set end time of task to time now, start game again, crash.
  • Crash caused by slip task code and how AI interacted with UI.
  • HHour was not reset when player task type changed from Attack/Probe by adding waypoint using Shift click. Caused issues for the AI.
  • There is a function to turn player Fire/Bombard tasks into defend tasks once they expire. Was doing this for all task types which could cause AI issues.
  • Artillery unit causes crash if reattached or game left to run.
  • Unable to Prime/UnPrime bridges when issuing orders to non Engineers, even if Engineers part of force.
  • LOS issues when enemy gets within 3K.
  • Player able to give Exit order to force when no Exit objectives, could cause crash.
  • AI was attempting to send a message to player about a future plan it was abandoning, this caused crash as future plans don’t have all the data needed for a message.
  • Player sets HHour for attack, AI was cribbing and bringing forward the HHour, which made it difficult to coordinate multiple attacks.
  • Error in the Task Doctrine code causing issues for the AI.
  • Error with Fixed Point Number Utility code.
  • Error in scheduling code, trying to update a force plan based on new orders but was not catering for a future plan properly.
Establishment Changes:
  • Fixed various issues.
Scenarios Changes:
  • Tweaked scenarios, including initial deployments.
  • Fixed spelling mistakes.
  • Added extra background information.
Map Changes:
  • Losheim - updated.

Okay, I applied the patch to my original installation on my Desktop (WIN7 64) I have played through the tutorial mission where I was originally unable to complete a game and I had great success. I'm not ready to say we are golden on the patch yet, but it looks very promising.

I tried the run until a time function and it worked for me. I ran the game on normal and full speed. I moved artillery and other units around that were causing me CTDs, and so far NO (zippo) CTDs.

I'll try some more scenarios tomorrow and over the weekend.

LuckyJim1010,

Try this link: http://www.matrixgames.com/community/private.asp
This takes you to the Registered Downloads page and the patch is about nine entries down.

Thanks. But - still getting a crash with the beta patch in my old save game that I reported here earlier, crashes right after pressing starting time [&:] You think I have to start the scenario again for this to go away?

For your convenience here's the old upload:
forceddownload.asp?file=0;2486942

Edit; seems trying to give assault orders at 0630 to any of the units around Mertzig or Grousbous is very prone to crashing.
And I also notice another thing, when giving an assault order with the game running, then pausing the game to change the assault time to in the future you cannot change the time and have to delete the order.

The save game might have the corrupt information that the new version fixes. The real question is does it ever crash again when you try to do the same things.

Indeed it does...[:@]

Since installing the patch got me motivated to try playing a bit more, I've been playing "Assault on the Sauer" as allies. I've encountered a similar situation which crashes the game as soon as play is pressed:

TF Luckett located just S of Berdorf (map center) has an order to attack at 0630 and "auto" time turned off. If I just press play it crashes after a few seconds. If I uncheck "auto" time on the order it continues without a crash.

Hi,

Recordered as BT0060.

I can reproduce the crash and it is code that only fires if the HHour is set. It ends up doing a divide by zero error. Luckily this is easily fixed, ans is [:)]. Your saved game now continues to play through. I have checked this change in and it will be in the final release of the patch.

Thanks for reporting this.

Hi!

I've tried downloading the beta several times but it seems to stop after I get to 5-6 MB. It also seems that the download speed is only 6-7 kbps. Is it me & my connection or ...?

Really would like to try the beta.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Noypi53,

I've placed the file on my personal Web space for you. You can try it from there. Be advised, I am only leaving it there for 24 hours from the time of this post. Good luck.

Hi all,

I've uploaded a new patch build. Matrix should make it available soon. It will be another public beta. It addresses the CTD reported above, plus the HQ leading the charge issue and the HHour issue plus some map and scenario updates. Stay tuned. [:)]
