the only thing I don´t get is why setting it as a training unit when you can always do training? [&:]

A Training unit (as opposed to simply a unit training [:D]) is allowed to expand to double pilots. AND you can rotate the trained pilots back to the general pool in groups of 10. Also you can only get the instructors bonus (PMA section 7 Item 3) in a training unit

interesting thanks.

for me, doubling the pilots is something I probably won´t do as I can´t see much of a need for it, except lowering micromanagement as I guess if every pilot has his own aircraft he will train up faster. Rotating in groups of 10 can also be an advantage but again it´s more or less only lowering micromanagement. The instructor sounds interesting. In a normal group set to training you get the leader and veterans as bonus for the rookie training but probably not the instructor? Whereas in a training unit you get the leader, veterans and the instructors that were sent back to training command?

Thanks I did not know this either.

So with the dedicated training groups removed, how do I currently make use of the TRACOM? Are the pilots assigned to TRACOM automatically train a) the pilots in reserve pool? or b) or will they increase training effects for all pilots of all squadrons for which the orders contain a training of any percentage? Someone pls elaborate on how to train using TRACOM in current version of AE.
Thanks!

Pilots in TRACOM do only one thing: they speed up the number of graduates but note these additional graduates are taken from whatever is already in the pipeline, no additional trainees enter the pipeline to replace the additional graduates.

TRACOM does not increase the experience or skills of graduating pilots.

TRACOM seems generally worthless since the two nationalities (british and american navy/army/marine) that are going to see decent numbers of tracom able pilots have a huge glut of never ending trainee pilots anyways. We probably have 100's of times more pilots in the pools then we have airframes to burn through to kill them off. Mostly if I pull 81+ xp pilots out of operational units I use them to put one high experience pilot in each stateside training group.

India probably also doesn't have access to the airframes needed to burn through even their paltry pilot pools, ditto for canada, NZ, and OZ. China could use a lot more pilots, at least at the start to fill out their groups. But china would run out of airframes the second you actually started using their airforce anyways.

Mebbe they're worthwhile for the japanese.

I wish pilots in TRACOM increased the specific skills of pilots coming out of the pools. Not even experience really. Ideally I would like pilots coming out of the pools to have 35ish experience (so they can still be readily trained in a trainer group) and a higher starting level of specific skills. Like if you get 100 TRACOM pilots with 70ish airskill it would be nice if they made pilots coming out of the pools start with 50 airskill or something.

meh. I guess that's just wishful thinking since it is what it is. Largely fluff.

Just for clarification, units using "training" as mission will see their pilots' skill levels increase but not their EXP. Is that correct?

I the above is a correct statement, then is anyone putting fighter units on say 90% train 10% CAP? Just wondering if that would help the EXP climb simultaneously

It might. I usually stick a unit on 100% cap and range 0 for a month. That kicks the experience up. However, I can not figure out how to get bomber experience up. Skills yes, experience no

vettim89,

If you have a unit on 100% training on a particular skill, most of the increase will be on the skill but some will also accrue to experience. I have had turns where a pilot has had both his experience and the targetted skill increase in the same turn. However in my experience there does appear to be a slow down in the rate of increasing experience once it hits 50% whereas the equivalent rate slowdown in skill increase is in the 60s (NB the 70% upper skill limit).

Once you have maxed out a particular skill, start training on a different skill. That seems to assist in gaining some additional experience levels. Also if you have the unit on General Training, that appears to also direct more of the training towards upping the experience level at a faster rate than if you concentrate on a particular skill.

Operating naval search range 0-1 might do that for your bomber pilots John.

If you want to train your bomber pilots up, setting their primary mission to - say - naval attack with a percentage set for naval search will see them gain experience in naval attack.

Graefin, there is no setting that will gain your pilots only experience without a chance of increasing skills as well. My tip was for a way that will allow your pilots to gain both experience and a useful skill faster than they will gain them if you use only the Naval Search setting. Using Naval Attack (or Ground Attack) combined with a percentage set to naval search seems to work faster for me while still performing a useful function as opposed to just setting them on "training".
fair winds,
