RE: Turn 2 10 December, 1941
Here is a map showing spotted Dutch Submarines off the Vietnam and Malaya coasts at the end of the day on the 10th. Also shown are the Army Aerial ASW patrols that are being conducted to minimize the submarine threat. Even if the aviators are not successful in sinking the subs, merely spotting them allows us to route all shipping clear of their location.

RE: Turn 2 10 December, 1941
Despite sinking several American subs during the opening day of the war, it does appear that several of the vessels did make it out of the harbor and are heading for the coast of Japan and possibly the Yellow Sea. Again the Army Air Forces have been successful in spotting these pirates and we are preparing a warm reception for them should they turn up off the coast of the home islands.

RE: Turn 2 10 December, 1941
Having just finished my own first AAR, my hat is off to this one. A very fun read and a great chance for me to jump in on a campaign game AAR from the very start. I love the hot sub on sub action so far. I've never seen that in any of my own smaller games up to this point. It was beautiful!

Please keep posting! A big thumb up from me!

Turn 3 11-12 December, 1941
The Allied Air Forces finally flew CAP in the PI and were greeted by a strong force of JNAF aircraft. Many Allied planes were shot down and the attack against Manila was successful. This theme was repeated over the two days of the turn.

The covering force of 5 DDs at Laong was attacked by Royal Navy DDs fleeing from Hong Kong. A glorious victory was the result!

The KB supported the landings at Manado. With no enemy air opposition, the jungle was effectively bombed.

RE: Turn 3 11-12 December, 1941
lb4269- Welcome aboard. I hope we are able to entertain and inform you enough to be a long term reader. The game itself should be excellent as our opponents are creative and knowledgeable.
In other news, Miri and Laong were subdued and occupied, Legaspi was invaded and will be taken next turn.
The Allied forces have assembled what appears to be a dozen or more single ship TFs with the intent of sneaking them to safety. In addition there are several multiple ship groups in the Legaspi area. A small SCTF led by two CAs and Mini-KB have been sent to deal with them. An aggressive net of air search/attack groups and small SCTFs are trying to round them up and sink them. Their surviving subs from Manila are having to elude a complex network of air searches orchestrated by seydlitz.
Operation Octopussy continues to come together.... more on that in a few days.

RE: Turn 3 11-12 December, 1941
Yes, our aircraft may not be killing many subs --yet-- but they are spotting them and even getting in some attacks. Here are the sub spootings and attacks from the turn's ops report.
I noticed that it spots way more targets on day 1 of the 2 day turn.
At any rate, on Dec 11th the Army, which is flying the bulk of the ASW patrols, had 134 sub spottings resulting in 4 attacks and 3 reported hits.
The Navy aircraft had 18 additional spottings which did not result in any attacks.
On the 12th, The Army had 47 spottings resulting in 1 attack and 1 reported hit.
The Navy had 5 spottings with no attacks.
Keep in mind that if you set up a good density of aircraft patrolling the area, multiple aircraft will spot the same sub, nicreasing the detection level on that sub. Also, successful spottings help to raise the ASW skill level of the spotting aircraft.
I like to achieve good density by trying to stay all green in my search patterns. Green is searched in the AM and blue in the PM air phase. It only goes to blue if it can not cover the assigned area with green. Being green with excess planes flying puts multiple planes in the search area, further increassing chances. I do all of these plus will often have multiple units searching overlapping areas.
At the end of the day I want it to be hard for him to move his subs without being detected.

lol yeah I know what you mean. seydlitz loves working the subs and ASW. He is also quite good at both. Somehow I think he can read those reports more clearly than many of us.

Yes, it can be dizzying indeed. I almost didn't post the exhaustive list but if I hadn't then people would have doubted the number of sightings.
It also served to show that it is the Army and not the Navy that is looking to the protection of Japan's shipping.
I think the navy is off showboating around in their battleships and carriers drinking all of our precious fuel oil while the Army is tending to the true work of protecting commerce in the empire.[:D]

The KB supported the landings at Manado. With no enemy air opposition, the jungle was effectively bombed.

LOL [:D] Great use of humour to spice up the delivery of grim reports!
BTW, I heard there is a guy named Milo that can get you some Agent Orange for more effective defoliation. Contact Canoerebel for detalis ...

No, it is actually the same ship.....the camo job just makes her look unmodified. [:D]
After all, the Japanese were the masters at hiding the actual upgrades of their ships from the eyes of the west.[:D]

Ah-So!
I should have guessed that all that smoke was hiding something and not just the result of substandard coal!

The multitude of Allied single ship TFs continues to attempt to elude the Imperial Japanese might. xAK Munlock accidentally found a Heavy Screening force. Munlock fought valiantly but its.45 calibre pistols were out ranged and Munlock lost the encounter.

The retreat of Allied ships from Hong Kong and the PI is being interdicted by SCTFs, Subs, and Air assets of the JAAF and JNAF. Here some JNAF airpower catches one of the few multiple ship TFs attempting to flee.
