What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
I just started a new GC scen 2 as the Japanese.
No air strikes or spotting of the Repulse or Prince of Whales, 7% damage only to the airbase at Clark Field. Playing the historical turn. What is going on? This is not historical is it?

What makes you think it has anything to do with the new update?

So you have seen this happen before where the Japanese Air Force completely misses the British Battlefleet TF on Dec 7 historical turn?
RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
Damnit. Sacrilege!
And on the attack on PH only 2 BB´s where sunk instead of 5! FIX THIS! [:D]

Yes, I've had various results with TF Z, including it being sunk, damaged or even survive the start of the war. The same is true for the attack on PH, where results can vary with each restart.
Sounds like you are thinking the "Historical First Turn" option, essentially recreates history exactly as it happened, when in fact, that is not how it works. All it does really, is prevent human players from issuing orders on the first turn.

findmeifyoucan, if you want exact historical dec 7 you have to use the dec 8 scenario.

The "historical" outcome would involve the POW and the Repluse sunk on the 10th.
I have also seen a variety of PH attack outcomes (out of the box). Everything from 2 BB's sunk to all of them sunk after the first day attack.

RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
I started a GC1 scenario with the allies after the update, and had both PoW and Repulse sunk on that first day. The damage at PH was low, but this also happened before.
One thing I have noticed, over about 10 days, though, is that the Japanese AI seems to be slightly less agressive at start. It waited a couple of days before attacking HK (therefore letting most of the boats there escape unscathed), did land in Luzon and Khota Baru, but waited more than usual for southern Philippines, and Northern Borneo. After 10 days, only Miri was attacked, Kuching has yes to see enemy boats or planes. Same goes for China.
It also seems less agressive in the airs. The first air attacks on the Philippines were unescorted bombers, mostly, very little happened over burma, northern Sumatra, and even Singapore.
On the other hand, invasion task forces seem to be slightly better organised.
Globally, this "first week feel" under the new patch felt a bit quieter than before. Of course, this is based on just one game... Did others feel the same?

RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
There are a couple of different AI opening moves and skripts.
So different AI behaviour has nothing to do with the patch, it would happen also if you restart a game against the AI
several times under the same patch.
Edit: It could be that Andy made some changes to existing AI skripts or added some details though, not that it is listed in the patch notes...

RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
This isn't really an AI issue here, since I'm the Allied victim in this game with findmeifyoucan.
We were one day into this when the new patch came out, so being that it was database-heavy, we decided to restart. I was lucky the first time around in that PoW came through untouched that time. Repulse, on the other hand...

Concerning the OP it does not matter whether its against the AI or PBEM.

RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
Andy Mac commented on having updated the AI scripts on some other threads, so yes, it might reflect changes there. I think the change in the land based radar logic, by allowing more defending fighters to scramble during an enemy air raid (which makes fighter planes even more important in the game), might have played a role too, or have triggered the need to adjust the AI.
Edit : If you play with "historical first turn" on, then the first turn is an 'AI turn', since you can't input orders.

Good point. The Radar bug fix is one of the best things in the patch besides the huge DB updates...

RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
I think even the "historical" December 8 start just means historical as of morning of December 8. That is my usual scenario to play from, but have seen a variety of attack outcomes against TF Force-Z on the next unrestricted turn.ORIGINAL: a_gonatas

Btw, I remember reading something about some moded scenarios that attempt to make the first few turns act in a more historical way, like placing TF Force-Z on its historical course. Does anyone know which these are, and has anyone had experience with them? Thanks in advance.

Hell, I've had KB not attack on 7 Dec 41. Go figure. Just the wrong end of the bell curve. [:D]

I've had Task Force Z show up at the landing beach and proceed to sink Haruna and put Kongo out of action...oh yes, it can happen. [:@]

RE: What have the designers done to the game with this new update?
In my CG Repulse took a torpedo hit but made it back to Singapore, and I sent PoW down to Brunei to intercept shipping there. She sank Fuso in a close in night engagement, then Chiyoda, and made it safely back to Singapore. She later was torpedoed off of Java but I got her to Perth and then to Cape Town for repairs. Repulse sneaked out of Singapore before it fell with about 60 flotation damage and limped to Ceylon and then Cape Town as well.
