Nationalizing names?
OK, I decided to put this here since most players see it this way.
Question: What is the general feeling of naming units and ground elements with their original (native) way ?.
Some German units use this and, for some weird reason, also Axis minors use sometimes German type of names.
Would this be too challenging for people since English seems to be the universal language in games?

Don't really care much.
But, I do highly agree that the Finnish Army should be saluted, both in the past and today. Top notch, highly professional group of guys.

RE: Nationalizing names?
I would like it, but only if it's done for all nationalities and it's done correctly.
RE: Nationalizing names?
I've been fiddling with renaming for awhile. For some, there would have to be some small compromises. For example, naming conventions for the Rumanians would have to be slightly changed, because of the way the game names units - "Divizia 1. Infanterie" (correct nomenclature) would have to be "1. Infanterie Divizia," or "1. Divizia Infanterie" if you can change the naming of the unit type.

As long as the counters are not changed to use the symbols the countries used at the time, there should be minimal confusion for non-English speakers as they can just check the counter.

Yeah. Imagine if we use German unit symbols... that would be quite confusing.
Close Combat Last Stand Arnhem did that.
RE: Nationalizing names?
Thank you all for your thoughts.
I do agree that the unit symbols should not be changed. I've had to use WWII era symbols from 4 different countries, drives you nuts. On the other hand, wouldn't that be a great psychological warfare tool against your opponent = suddenly switch the counters to authentic WWII era?[:D]
Well, actually I was more worried about the native English speakers. You know, the shock of having to deal with another language. [;)]

Anyway, I try to post my Finnish OOB errata before Christmas but no promises since learning to use the editor (which is great) is a bit of a task. [&:]

Follow the logic and smile!
OK,actually Soviet Union did not win the war but Finland did! [:-]
9/1944 Finland signed an armistice with the Soviets. Did not capitulate or surrender (regardless what it says in the WITE manual[&:]). In 1948 we signed a peace treaty (Paris Peace Treaty) with Allied powers.
No Soviet troops occupied Finland or set up Government. (For the Europian countries that took part in WWII only three Capitals did not get occupied during the war: London, Moscow and Helsinki)
In 1991 Soviet Union collapsed, Finland was still independent nation as in today. Ergo, Finland won the WWII Eastern Front war. Therefore, The game should be in Finnish!!![:D][:D][:D]
Everything should be in Russian, as they won![]()

RE: Nationalizing names?
I suppose that if Matrix had a budget for it, they could localize the game to reflect the native names for units. You'll find tho that amongst Soviet units, there would be different spelling amongst units, i.e. Moscovite vs. Azeris as an example. So even with in the "same country" there can be differences.
Also who is going to add Cyrillic to my fonts?

RE: Nationalizing names?
Good topic. It's a general problem occurring most non multi-lingual software interfaces. I don't know how the developers of wite have implemented this, if it is even implemented at al, so we can switch it on on demand? Care to comment on this one?
Sadly most of the posts here seem to be from people Usa,Canada or UK, and as such don't care about other languages (just read their arguments/answers which are bluntly put idiotic and self centred) , so they probably think english it the only language spoken on the planet. Wel, ignorance is bliss for you i gues [8|].
