War in the East v1.02 Beta 1 Update Now Available

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Can I skip the official 1.01 and do 1.02 or do I need to do 1.01 and then do 1.02? Can I still play saved games with this update?

Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Cad908

Note:

Same problem as JPH.

Before you ask, yes I am using an administrator level user.

No problems with any of the other patches.

Reinstalled 1.01 and the game works fine with no problems.

Running avast anti-virus, but this has never created an issue with any other Matrix game.

Strange.......but it is beta for a reason.

Happy Holidays

Are you logged in as "Administrator" or your account simply has Administrator user level?

Please try to run the "WarInTheEast.exe" with "Run As Administrator"!

Also please try to restart your machine (this is important with Vista and Windows 7 that use the UAC)!

Apollo,

My post was not a clear as I should have made it. Running with the new patch with an administrator level ID and I had the problem. When I set the program exe to "run as administrator" it works fine. The odd thing to me was that this patch was the first time I had any problem with any of the updates, and I loaded all the beta's and 1.01.

Thanks for your help.

Agree, never heard of Theodore outside France. Schwerer Gustav and Dora are the names that I can think of...

Will the Zis-30 fix get into this update? It would be nice to have more anti-armour capability in 41!

There was no change. They can be shown halved if you are making hasty attack or attack across the river.

Not in this update. I got fixed device file from Jim, so it should be in one of coming patches. It won't get into ongoing games though.

Don't put much hopes on ZiS-30 - it is not a wunderwaffe.. especially in homeopathic quantities it comes :)

Drat, but thanks for the efforts to put out the patches in the holiday season regardless.

Certainly it is...my troops are failing to stop the oncoming Panzer hordes due to the lack of this one particular weapon! There is enough produced each week to make 3 Bn of them. [:D]

At the moment I'm fairly convinced that the Panzers come with some sort of magic force field bubble that stops them from getting killed since I trade at about 1:100 in combat if I am lucky. My feeling is that they loose more tanks moving to the combat then in it.

Anyhow, even after years of reading about the war in Russia some of the tank types are new to me. So far as I can see for obvious reasons since they die, die, die. The T40, and T50 are tanks I had never heard of before, I had always wondered why they skipped from T34 to T60 and now I know...they didn't, the T50 actually looks sort of ok-ish but I guess having the factory convert to T34-M1942 and then start to build is better in the long run then a lot of T50 tanks followed by a lower production of T34s. Anyway the Zis-30 looks to be no worse then the famed Panzerjäger I!

On a more serious note, does this mess up any production chains? As the factories, according to redmarkus, don't make anything even in 1942.

Your loss ratio in tanks is partly from tanks shot at while your units retreat, and others are abandoned because they are damaged.

Great! Huge improvement on my mediocre machine. Now I can finally begin a GC without risking death of old age.[:D]

There will never be a 'final' patch; the game will be patched through eternity as each new bug is found and worked on. [:D]

This is a general question regarding patches in general for WitE: will a restart of a game ever be needed to get all benefits from a patch? This was sometimes needed with WitP:AE and I am just wondering if there will ever be a time where it a campaign restart will be needed with this game due to a patch.

Thanks

The same logic as in WITP, if you want to benefit form data related fixed you need to restart. For example, there will be some data changes in comping patch, but I don't see any which would be important enough for restart.

But you'd still have to live with past results of say, over-effective AA decimating your fighter strength earlier in the game. No patch will give you your airplanes back, it will just change the way they are handled by the game engine going forward. Whether that's justification for a restart is each player's judgment call.
