New War in the East Public Beta v1.03 - 2 Available!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Actually Joel, in the prior beta air recon on adjacent units can and did raise above 4. Divisions could almost always be brought to 10 in 1-3 recon missions. Forts and Sec regiments only seemed to go up if they were ~5DL, and then would only go up from that mission. Eg it might go to 10, but if it only went up to 6 or 7, additional missions had no effect.

Obviously this was in contradiction with the manual, which stated 4 was the max no matter what.  In 1.03 Beta 2, that is now the case, you can recon an adjacent division with a DL of 5 with every plane on the front and it won't go above 5.  In beta 1, it would.

Maybe you got 2 bugs with one fix. [:)]

You only need to restart to get the data changes, which in my opinion are not major enough to bother starting over for.

Why can't admin points exceed 500? What is the logic behind that?

Once your deep into the game the 'logic behind' this will become apparent.

To use another analogy if it costs $5.00 per song and there were 10 songs on the CD it would cost you $20.00 for the CD, if I gave you $20.00 you could buy a new CD each month. If you only get $5.00 a month you'd be frustrated to no end and you could never buy a full CD if more then 1 a month came out. Therefore if I give you $15.00 a month you could almost buy a whole CD each month, or you could save it and then the next month you could buy a whole CD and have $10.00 left. And so on and so forth.

So the logical thoughts behind this is you get so much AP each turn and you have a credit card max of 500. It's just a game and via testing 100 is just too low and 1000 is way too high. You either are starving or in gluttony, and we thought it would be wise to have you more like in the real world where you have a budget and you feel the pinch of pain if you don't manage your financial properly.

Just my thoughts on this of course so your millage may vary.

If you can be economical I prefer to have a wealth of AP points to use as required. Especially in the Spring of 42 after the Germans recover from the winter campaign. Considering the importance of AP I see no reason to cap it is you can manage the game properly and have those extra points when you desire.

It is not just the Germans you consider. The Soviets can play games with AP's as well and with larger implications for the game.

Just one example: Russians take a lot of the surviving motorized/tank divisions and retreat/run away with them. Eventually they elect to static these units, getting 15-18 APs each unit. (They should do this with motorized divisions since when they convert to infantry divisions, it cost 3 AP to reactivate) For armor divisions, the advantage is not so clear because even when they become armor brigades, to reactivate them costs a lot of AP's. However, being the sneaky Russian I am, I figure it is worth it to me to take a bunch of those out of circulation, static them and pile up the AP's. Now its spring/summer 1942 and I can form rifle and tank corps. Because I have such a huge amount of AP's saved up (well over the 500 limit), I now have the ability to flip over a lot of Soviet troops to corps, giving them the ability to concentrate their forces in a far higher fashion than possible if there were a limit. The trade off is I would have some brigades stuck for awhile longer, but trading two armor brigades being out of circulation for awhile compared to having 3 extra infantry corps seems to be a trade off a Russian would be very interested in.

I am playing as the Germans in a pbem in GC. Will the data changes to TOE and experience problem be fixed with 103 official in my pbem or do you have to start another game?

I think Joel has stated that any data updates need to have the game restarted.

I do not believe that the TOE experience issues are data related. So fixes in the next beta will come across in an older game. However, any experience loss already caused by upgrades that have already happened will remain.
