my experience with Hong Kong is the following:

1) if you commit only the 38th Division with supporting units, and your enemy sets the forts to rebuild and has a bit of luck, then you might have to besiege HK for several days, once I had to even for 4 weeks..... (but that game was messed up due to several patch issues)

2) if you additionally commit 104th Division to the forces in HK (based at Canton), then you will win a swift victory within 2 or 3 attacks with little to no losses (meaning "destroyed" squads)

A bit of a Nothing Day Today.

Post by DivePac88 »

16th of December 1941,

SoliInvictus202- Hi, yes think you are right, and I should have brought-down the division at Canton, along with the Army HQ for support. But I am confident that Hong Kong will fall in 6x days tops.

But I am not too worried about the time frame at Hong Kong, as the 38th division will not be need at Singapore for about 3x weeks minimum. Also this division is only a reserve for Singapore, as it is the sixth division ear-marked for there. It will only be used at Singapore if the 5x corps there suffers heavy casualties. Otherwise the 38th will go to Java to support the 2x division corps ear-marked for that invasion.

I launched another assault on Hong Kong today, with only the the 38th division (96/99), and the 2x engineer regiments-

Ground combat at Hong Kong (77,61)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 17856 troops, 283 guns, 217 vehicles, Assault Value = 725

Defending force 6300 troops, 132 guns, 80 vehicles, Assault Value = 211

In the air today I launched offensive fighter sweeps over both Clark Field (5-0), and Singapore (5-1). The Singapore sweep was flown by Oscar Ki-43-Ib's from my new airfield at Kota Bharu, which is up and running with fighter/medium-bomber/recon assets installed.

American Submarines Cause Havoc off Home Islands Overnight

Post by DivePac88 »

17th of December 1941,

Overnight FJ's USN Submarines operating around the Home Islands attack 5x cargo ships in convoys. 3x of those attacks were successful resulting in the sinking of 1x AK, and 2x others being badly damaged.

Also overnight I-153 attacked and sunk a Dutch AG in the North Java Sea.

On Luzon my ground units are building-up at Clark Field, which FJ seems to be evacuating. I will put in a deliberate attack here tomorrow when the last infantry unit arrives.

I hit the British ground units at Hong Kong today, with most of the IJAAF/IJNAF bomber force from Formosa. This will be repeated again tomorrow, to soften them up for another deliberate attack day after tomorrow.

Wake Island Stormed after Landing There Today

Post by DivePac88 »

18th, and 19th of December 1941,

On the 18th the 2x cargo freighter that had been damaged off the Home Island, both sunk while attempting to make port. But the ray of sunshine is that FJ has lost 2x USN submarines in minefields around Home Islands in the last 3x days. These losses he has confirmed in E-mails, and with all my ASW patrols now up and running I am confident my merchant ship losses will go down.

My naval forces in the Eastern Pacific stormed both Nauru and Wake Islands today. The operation against Wake was supported by the Fast Battleships of the 1st carrier striking force. FJ's forces on Wake Island had also been softened-up by aircraft strikes from the carriers for the 2x previous days.

I put in another deliberate attack at Hong Kong today, and this one went very well. I would expect Hong Kong to full in 2x days time-

Ground combat at Hong Kong (77,61)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 24140 troops, 337 guns, 216 vehicles, Assault Value = 734

Defending force 5911 troops, 131 guns, 78 vehicles, Assault Value = 194

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 1

Japanese adjusted assault: 566

Allied adjusted defense: 485

Allied ground losses:
284 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 35 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 44 disabled

But My deliberate attack at Clark Field didn't go so well, and I think that I completely misread FJ's intentions here. I had thought that he was pulling-out units to Bataan and Manila from Clark Field. Air reconnaissance was also was showing his biggest strategic concentration was on Manila, with nothing heading north to Clark. But it now looks as if he means to hold Clark, so I will have to wait for more infantry to close-up on there.

The attack-

Ground combat at Clark Field (79,76)

Finally today; FJ ambushed a combined IJAAF/IJNAF airfield strike program over Rangoon with the full 3x groups of the AVG. I had sort-of been expecting this, and it seems that he is protecting some shipping loading/unloading in the port. I have moved in a 36x group of A6M2's now, and they will sweep Rangoon unit AVG is destroyed. I suspect that he will have to keep AVG there until the shipping has loaded/unloaded, and AVG is my priority and not the shipping.

But it was still not pretty to watch the action over Rangoon-

I missed the reference, is PDU on?  If so, can you share your early war production strategy/tactics?  Thanks!

Hi PaxMondo,

PDU is on (only way I'd play).

I have made no major changes to Industry, other than expanding airframe/ engine/ Merchant yard production. I have also started running the local resource convoys, and are just about to ready to start the Port Arthur fuel/oil convoys.

Hong Kong Falls

Post by DivePac88 »

20th, and 21st of December 1941

On the 20th Hong Kong fell to me, after the 2nd deliberate attack in a row. The colony fell one day early according to my reckoning, and this I attribute to the air-support from Formosa. The 38th division (96/99) will rest/refit for a week, then be shipped on to Cam Ranh bay.

Also on the 20th I-25 sunk 2x small cargo vessels off Rockhampton, Northeast Australia.

On the 21st the only major news is that most elements (- an infantry regiment) of the 56th division started landing at Davao. I expect to clear the port of FJ's forces tomorrow. This division will then clear the Island of Mindanao of the enemy forces before continuing on to assault Balikpapan and Makassar.
