You're gonna get 3 panzers isolated and if you have the bad luck of mud again, they'll be toast.

At the time of this AAR, I don't yet have the third turn from Pieter, so it will be interesting to see how much the games diverge as they develop.

James, you haven't received my turn 2 yet, so obviously losses are lower in our game as you know the losses of 2.5 turns in this game and 1.5 turns in ours.

There's a maximum of one mud turn per weather zone in the summer.

Pretty unlucky start, surely I will never ask for random weather.

Hi Pieter,

I should have been more specific...I meant that I had not yet received the Axis Turn 3 file from you. I am comparing apples and apples here, as the loss screenshots that I was referring to are those of the same point in time. Thus, when I get back my turn three from you, our loss totals at the start of my turn, will be compared against those from the start of my third turn with Flavio.

It's been neat playing against the combined brains of you, Flavio, and Andy, too. Yeah...I can see from the AAR index page, you guys posting in each others threads, and getting Andy's feedback, as well. Don't worry, though, I'm not looking *in* the threads. It's just that I'm feeling a little lonely here, and jealous...[;)]

Like my grandma used to always say..."it all comes out in the wash". I used to think that it was some Okie take on Cosmic Balance, or Karma, but maybe she was just referring to the Russian mud...[:D]

Anyhow, it does make it a little tougher on the Axis in the early part of the campaign, because odds are, you will get mud in each of the three Soviet zones, at some point before the fall. However, it also makes the fall and winter months less predictable, and I won't have the annoying paint-by-numbers mentality of ridiculous weather prescience making my games so drab.

"Oh...I've got three turns of mud...I'll do A."
"Oh, now I've got exactly three turns of Snow, I'll do B."
"Oh, I've got exactly X turns of Blizzard to get through."
"Oh, I've got exactly X-1 turns of Blizzard to get through."
"Oh, I've got exactly X-2 turns of Blizzard to get through."
...[>:]

Different strokes, for different folks, I guess.

Maybe too much, I think it can unbalance the game towards your opponent but I really hope to be wrong [:)]

I understand that, would be enough to skip the very first turns from random weather event although.

I'm too newbie to handle this situation against an experienced opponent therefore I wrote that.

Anyhow I really want to know how this game will end because you have chosen to play a tough game [:)]

This turn's AAR will contain a valuable lesson. Much like posting in internet forums, it is usually bad idea to play a competitive game when you are in a bad mood, and low on sleep...[:D]

Contrary to my normal play, I dove right into this game, after the initial loss screenshots. Thus, I didn't save a set of starting positions, after air recon. Then, to make matters worse, my play was somewhat sloppy, making me even more frustrated, which, of course, leads to more stupid mistakes, and cursing at the computer in the middle of the night, when the rest of the family, deservedly or not, is trying to sleep.

Anyhow...to make a short story long, it took a few days before I could even bring myself to open the game again after that. By then, I had a backlog of turns to play, and more crap was going on in my personal life, so I just had to suck it up and finish off the turn.

The ground losses at the start of the turn. One thing to note here, is an oddity with the program. My per turn losses are displayed, with none showing for the Soviets. That's because I took the screenshot before "refreshing" the list. When you first open a PBEM turn, if you go immediately to the Show Losses screen, it will show the losses for the current turn, through the logistics phase. If you then close the losses screen and reopen it, it will refresh the per turn losses, and start you off with freshly zeroed out columns. This shot was taken before zeroing them out, and displays my attritional and irreparably damaged components tallies for the turn.

Air losses at the start of the turn. Likewise taken before refreshing the columns. These losses were from my training missions, flown during the logistics phase.

Since we had mud in the North Soviet Zone, my newly activated Finns mostly just sat on their butts, since attacking in the mud is a bad idea. Some activity in the Baltic States, as the 4th Pz Gp made some attacks against the remaining screens that Flavio had in the area, and advanced with the infantry.

In the Center, 2nd Pz Gp is shifting to the NE to support the attack next turn in the landbridge area. Some minor action along the landbridge's frontline, just to keep the Soviet units from becoming too entrenched. My infantry is almost to the front, and I will be able to make better progress next turn, when the mobile forces aren't having to fight every battle.

In the South, I've broken through Flavio's lines, and encircled about 20 Soviet divisions to the east of Rovno. The ring isn't strong, and I expect Flavio to restore supply to them in his turn. However, this should start opening up things down here. One of my divisions made a little roundabout, south of Zhitomir, and overran several airbases, routed units, and HQs, driving up the enemy losses, tearing up track, and protecting that area from direct counterattack, due to the converted hex costs. Almost 300 enemy planes were destroyed in this little operation, and I easily captured as much fuel as I used.

The ending ground losses screen. Still running about 8:1 on the losses, during combat.

Here are the ending air losses. Almost 300 of Flavio's losses came from my overrunning of his airbases in the south. He's committing the Soviet airforce early in our game. This is a fairly major departure from how my game with Pieter is going. Pieter has some fighters on bases, but he's been hiding his bombers. Flavio, on the other hand, is throwing in everything. Luftwaffe pilots and my flak are taking a heavy toll on the Soviets, but there always seem to be more filling in the dead men's shoes. Meanwhile, my air losses are mounting, but still manageable, with about half from flak, and the other half from air-to-air combat.

Getting mud now in the north is a break since just the Finns are there. You now know you can't get it for the rest of the summer in that zone.

Yeah...it's the huge silver lining on that tiny black cloud...[:D]

I'm just wondering when I'm going to get it right smack dab in the center. Probably when I have Flavio on the ropes...[;)]

Not too many AARs with Random Weather, sure makes it more interesting, and tougher, for the Germans

Of course, you do get some of it back in the Winter, when you'll open the turn and see you get SNOW instead of BLIZZARD. You should be able to counter-pummel him with that, since the Reds will likely end his turn very stacked-up and exposed. Your winter should go better as a result.

You hope, bad thing is the snow shows up after about 7 turns of blizzard when I see it happen, and we know what German div look like after 7 blizzard turns. Only your city boys are in good shape, everyone else looks like the Romanians.

It sounds to me he is putting those airbases forward to create ZOCs to slow you down.
