I'm trying to extract two damaged light cruisers from near Milne Bay. Wish me luck!

He finally noticed the base I'm building on Ramree Island.

An unescorted Japanese AK was attacked on the surface by S-42 south of Rabaul. Straggler from the surface battle?

xAK Lihue collides with xAK Onomea at 128 , 168

One of my sneaker-net xAKLs is caught by Japanese patrol boats near Morotai.

Mostly air actions. Not a great deal happening. RN CVs joining with American CVs in the Coral Sea.

I try to unload four AKs in Port Moresby, and one is torpedoed. Such is life in the big city.

I wonder where the Japanese fast carriers are. Truk? or Kure?

Mostly air activity, as I deploy USAAF pursuit groups into China. No more happy days for the IJA air units.

Japanese ground ops in China seem to be going nowhere.

I redeploy my CVTFs from near Port Moresby to south of Guadalcanal to cover reinforcement convoys for Lunga and Tulagi.

Mostly air operations. Japan recaptures Sabang. Also drives in a reconnaisance screen near Akyab. I continue carefully withdrawing damaged ships from Japanese airspace.

Intel indicates Japanese LCUs are planning for attacks on various bases that the IJN is probably not able to reach.

My four CVTFs moved to a cover position off Tulagi and just out of range of Rabaul.

Japanese AK off Woodlark Island sunk.

Air battles over Port Moresby, Sian, and Akyab generally in the favour of the Allies.

The combined KB shows up off Buna and hits Port Moresby. I think I'll pull back...

My comment to my opponent:
"I see your carriers. Do you know where mine are?"

His response:
"I`m guessing that anywhere between Noumea and Horn Island. One british carrier is 25-35 hexes from Cocos Islands

I`m assuming that we are going to have a battle in the next 5-7 days, as I plan to move in force in the Solomons-PNG area.

But the torpedo on the Kaga was a bad start, but I have completed objetive 1: Closing PM Airbase

Towards objetive 2 !"

There's a British carrier headed towards Colombo, a second at Perth, and a third off Tulagi. My American carriers are with it off Tulagi.
Port Moresby has lots of supply and engineers, so it should be up in a turn or so.

Apparently SS-34 hit Kaga with a fish off Buna. I'll take it. The Solomon Sea is crawling with Allied subs.
Another day's attacks on PM. It has lots of engineers and lots of supply. Let's see how quickly it gets back up running.

Another armoured attack from cloud-cuckoo-land. Unsupported armour against dug-in infantry with AT support! I would expect the team responsible for WitE to have a better understanding in this area:

Ground combat at Myitkyina (64,42)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1716 troops, 0 guns, 355 vehicles, Assault Value = 196

Mostly air operations. The KB is two hexes south of Rabaul. I assume it will refuel before hitting its next target.

I'll add a few details. Operations in China and Burma are minor--Japanese mopping up for the most part. The air war in both areas is becoming more balanced. I still hold the Southern Philippines, but they are mostly cut off from reinforcement and resupply. I should be thinking about a major resupply convoy soon as my opponent is preoccupied elsewhere. The Illustrious and its CVTF is moving to reinforce the Coral Sea via Sydney. My four CVTFs in the Coral Sea have resupplied at Noumea and are moving north to patrol off Tulagi. Port Moresby is recovering from the KB strikes, and I have four large fighter squadrons in position to replace the depleted units at PM. Ndeni has been developed as a large forward base to support Tulagi. It's about the size of Midway in June 1942. Tulagi is garrisoned with a USMC raider battalion, MAG, and pioneer battalion. Lunga has a USMC raider battalion. Noumea is a major fleet base with a corps-sized garrison. My main logistic problem is fuel--the refueling of the Coral Sea force cleared out Noumea. Sydney just received 80,000 tons, but that will be burned fast.

Mostly air actions. KB appears to be lying low and resupplying in Rabaul. I have reinforcement convoys approaching Port Moresby, Lunga, and Tulagi, and I've reinforced the air units at Port Moresby. I'm also trying to extract the USS Honolulu from Tulagi Harbour, where it has been working off floatation damage. I have damaged light cruisers in Cairns, Port Townsend, Brisbane (two), and Sydney (three). The Astoria is also being repaired in Sidney. My in-your-face SAG tactics tend to chew up my medium and heavy gunships.

There are complaints in the WitE forum about mech infantry taking much heavier casualties than motorised infantry. The game engine models them as tanks, and as they have light armour, they get badly chewed up when they operate that way. In reality, their vehicles were armoured only against infantry fire, and they dismounted to provide flank protection, engineering support, and target acquisition when the tanks they supported encountered serious opposition, particularly by heavy AT weapons. So it's not just me. Here's an unsupported armoured attack in the jungle:

Ground combat at Myitkyina (64,42)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1656 troops, 0 guns, 355 vehicles, Assault Value = 199

Defending force 4235 troops, 55 guns, 30 vehicles, Assault Value = 57

Japanese adjusted assault: 135

Allied adjusted defense: 52

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), op mode(-), preparation(-), morale(-)
 experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), fatigue(-)

Japanese ground losses:
      Vehicles lost 13 (1 destroyed, 12 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
      584 casualties reported
         Squads: 15 destroyed, 11 disabled
Non Combat: 16 destroyed, 23 disabled
         Engineers: 1 destroyed, 8 disabled
      Vehicles lost 2 (1 destroyed, 1 disabled)

Trying to sneak a convoy into Port Moresby was a bit messy, but the cargo made it--a USAAF baseforce that will make recovery much faster and will facilitate air ops a great deal. Sneaking the Honolulu out of Tulagi Harbour was also a bit messy.

Tojos in Burma!

Myitkyina falls.

My opponent is hinting that the moment of truth is coming, but I haven't received his turn yet. I think I see the KB headed down the Solomons chain. If he continues at 9 hexes a turn, he'll be in range of my CVTFs. I'm inclined to back up two hexes and/or send some SAGs to his predicted location to mess him up a bit. I have lots of subs in the area, too.

USS Honolulu sinks while I deal with the I-23 nearby. A shame.

The move file indicates the ships near Rabaul are patrol craft. I'll escort the convoys into Tulagi and Lunga and afterwards cover some convoys into Port Moresby.

Not a pretty sight. My naval search missed the KB, and it snuck up and sank a major convoy in harbour. Lesson learned: never skimp on your naval search. Checking further--naval search was deployed. This was a case where it simply missed the TF. BTW, I've been running 360 degree search ever since the bug was discovered. Has it been fixed? Does the fix work?

Allied CVTFs pull back and nothing happens except some submarine attacks on Japanese shipping.

KB spotted 4 hexes SE of Rabaul. The Allied CVTFs will move up to cover Tulagi.

The KB shows up out of the blue near Rossel Island. 136 A6Ms attempt to intercept two B-17Es and fail. Five Allied CVTFs move to intercept.

Harry - the Zeros fail in which way - they fail to intercept, or they intercept and fail to shoot down the B-17Es? What was the altitude of the B-17Es? Did they hit anything?

Thanks -
