Looking back through the battles I found some Axis ones and indeed I did lose a cav division ( it was shattered ) and I wasn't aware of that. Mystery solved.

Those spare tank Batallions and Cav Divisions, I've been sending to the Moscow area just so I can find them easier and making stacks of three of each kind so I can turn them into Corps units when I'm able. And paratroopers I'm shipping to the Moscow area as well, in stacks of three, newly assigned to Stavka, so I can use the HQ for something else ( like a pseudo-shock army ). I intend to convert the paratroopers to Guards units when I'm able to.

You may want to hold off converting the Para's to Guards Para Divisions in 43. They have a good TOE and DON'T count towards your overall Guards Rifle count as an FYI..............

I thought the paratroopers turned into a regular "Leg" infantry unit, even though it gains "Guards" status at the same time. I could be wrong though.

EDIT: I re-read your post and I think maybe I've gotten your point. I should hold off converting them until '43 when they can then be converted into Guards Para Divisions. Thanks for the tip.

I guess by this time the Reserve Front had been renamed as the Kalinin Front.  The units I was looking at were the clumps west of Smolensk, SW of the Valdai Hills and NE of the hills, and a group near Sumy ( unless they slightly different color ).

To hunt for cavalry units you can use the Cntrl-4 key combo, that highlights them on the map.

I do not recall if mountain cav divisions can be used in cav corps but I am sure that you cannot order/build them ( mountain cav divisions ) so once they die or are merged they are gone forever.

Here's the front lines in T30 before any Soviet movement. He didn't back up this time. Maybe he's through backing up and is going to
try to do some toe-to-toe fighting now. Suits me as long as I get the loss ratio right. It's 8Jan1942 and his CV's shouldn't be climbing
higher just yet. I don't know why the sudden shift in Axis policy. Maybe he's bringing his Panzers on line to help hold the Red Hordes
back.

Most of the air-to-air kills were scored by the bombers. I'm not sure what that has to say about my fighters. Maybe I'm flying my bombers more than the fighters. That also may mean that my airfields are too far from the front line and the fighters just can't reach the Axis air bases. Or something.

Soviet fighters have roughly the save range as the good German fighters, about 13-18 hexes.  The Pe-3 should arrive in Soviet units during 1942, with a range around 25 or 30 if I remember correctly; it's a better plane than the Bf-110 but not as good as the better German ones.

You can't form tank corps until April, so you might as well get the tank brigades into the fight for a little while longer.

I changed almost all the U-2 transports into TB-3G-2 transports and only had two U-2 groups left over when I ran out of other kinds of transports to change them into. At least they are on night missions.

I launched an all-out attack on a stack of three Finn divisions in the Lake Ladoga area and it didn't go all that well. It's going to be a long war.

All the planes are fully deployed somewhere except for these planes. These are all in the NR as I have run out of air bases to place these guys. There are about four airports in the far southeast that frozen and three of those have airplanes on them. Other than that I believe that each air base has at least 6 air groups on it right now. I'm trying to aim for the most planes at each air base without swamping the support available at those bases.
