Interdiction in 1.05?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Interdiction in 1.05?

Post by Michael T »

Interdiction seems to be a bit over the top again. I am seeing 3 SB-2's fly thru 100's (only a couple actually intercept) of German fighters and knock off 25% of a Pz Div MP in July 1941. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes.
Despite assurances to the contrary, the air war is still a *$@@% MESS

I'm seeing it while playing both sides of the hill. In addition to what's already been described above, I have been seeing some pretty serious schwaking of Axis and Soviet HQ movement from interdiction attacks -- sometimes I am lossing 15 to 20-MPs from a given attack. Stops HQ migration dead in its tracks.

I for one like the increased impact of interdiction missions as it adds an additonal layer of uncertainty during a player's move. It has on more than one occasion kept a unit from attacking or reaching it's intended defensive destination and forced a change in plans.

I am more and more pleased with air war in each new patch.

Finally my red air force listens to my basic orders (in as much as tweaking couple numbers in air doctrine screen can be called "orders"). In early versions I felt whatever I do on air doctrine screen means absolutely freaking nothing and I best return all my aircraft to national reserve pool until late 42.

I agree.

And I love making "I agree" posts because I visualise the irritation on the faces of all who disagree [:D]

No, really I absolutely agree. I think WITE could use more uncertainty in all aspects of the game.

Speaking of interdiction, does it help to have AA units attached to the divisions to help fight off the interdiction?  Are losses accounted for first before interdiction attempt is made?

There is a Wirbelwind nearby - I assume it was designed for anti-interdiction.

Playing Russian in mid 1943 I don't see any upturn in physical interdiction losses, though I can't see the movement loss inflicted.

I just had an HQ go from 40 MP to 0 because 3 DB-3s bombed it.
Is this working as intended?

That does sound extreme. I don't know exactly what the formula is but I'll ask.

Edit: 39 to 0... for some it will make a huge difference [;)]
And I have only seen that happen to this extreme once, but it happened today.

I like interdiction in general but 3 SB-2's reducing a Pz by 13MP in July 1941 is out of whack I think. Especially when plenty of interceptors are nearby.

If it's happening routinely rather than rarely, than I agree. With HQ-Build-up being more difficult, average Panzer Division Movement allowance for a given turn in 1941 -- beyond say turn 3 or 4 -- is about 15 to 30 MPs. That equates to the Panzer Division getting about 2 to about 4-MPs per day of a weekly turn.

Assuming our subject Panzer Division started the turn with say 25-MPs, than a loss of 13-MPs means our three SB-2s interdiction attack succeeded in stopping our panzer division dead in its tracks for about 3.5-days. "Realistic"? It's probably not out of the realm of possibilities -- assuming the SB2s got lucky in terms of avoiding Axis fighter cover and also got lucky and schwaked a divisional supply train that was carrying most of the units fuel. I suppose the question is rarity of the event. Is loss of 13-MPs the MEAN result? Or is it +/-1 or 2 standard deviations away from a typical MP hit a Panzer Division might be expected to take when attacked by 3 SB2s?

hehe lucky for you it was! [:)]

It was my best Pz unit that I had nursed for the first 2 turns, plenty of gas and firepower only to be completely foiled by 3 SB-2's that flew right by a nest of German fighter groups [&:]

When interdiction was really bad a few patches back I could avoid the harsh effects by keeping my fighters close by. This doesn't work anymore. Even if they do intercept they don't shoot anyone down. You just have to hope the enemy planes miss their target. It may be my imagination but it seems they prefer to bomb high MP units.

Yeah, checkerboards 3 deep do not slow him down...

I think that the Doctrine Settings may have a bit to do with how effective the interdiction is...

The interdiction routines for the Sovs. seem to have come to life !

I`ve had Mech. Divs. ( seem to be a fav. target ) doing extended mov hit more often now losing anywhere from 0 - 6 MP`s . Seems to happen most when out of fighter cover range and trying to move through enemy lines. Actually a Good Thing IMO.
