I know ... which is why we IJ players are stuck with some lousy rolls in china until we can get those leaders replaced.

I'm even impressed that there are any (+) leaders for the chinese at all [;)]ORIGINAL: PaxMondo
Yeah, a lot of lousy leaders in China at start for IJ. Worse, several of them are quite pricey to replace. [:(]ORIGINAL: Historiker
Regarding the leaders(+), I should definitly consider chaning leaders whereever possible, as soon as PPs are available.
Right now, I need every single PP to buy out garrison units and tank units from Manchuria and Korea as I have a lot of use for them...
I think they get the (+) because they have so many HQs following their troops around. They always have a stack of at least 2/3 troops and 1/3 HQ units in my games at least.
The small cavalry units are cheap and a good way to free larger IJA units for garrison. Also, you probably already have implemented this, but some of those Chinese IJA 'divisions' splitting up to garrison small towns is a good way to go.

In former games, I created a XLS with all garrison needs to send the best fitting units. As this is much work and may lead to units of the same size passing each other in different directions (taking always the closes smalles fitting unit is even more work), I simply ordered all garrison units to Suchow.
Having them all together, I start spreading them around. This way, I already have two Divisions freed for further use, with more to follow.

And an XLS is??
Its a good idea to create a 'pool' of garrison units as you are doing, as it can get confusing. [&:]

.xls - an excel file format - a spreadsheet.
As soon as the 89th Chinese Corps is forced away from Pengpu and the railroad, all but the south coast can be reached from Suchow. Staying in strategic mode, they can be rebased within very short notice.
I use that "pool base" for Manchuria, too. All units that shall be bought out are ordered for Chinchow (101,41) That way, I keep it simple and easy later in the game, as I have to get through every Manchurian base on turn 1 anyways.

No need to, Chris! I could've expressed myself more clearly.
5/9/42
Subs:
I change course of my three mine-subs, which were initially ordered normal patrols. I will use them to mine outposts which are unlikely to have mines themselves. There's nothing I hate more than one of my subs hitting a mine...
One of his S-class hits an unescorted xAK, the Aso Maru (Toho Cargo) at Shortlands. Shortlands starts with a significant lack of supplies, so I ordered the xAK to resupply the base from Rabaul. As the game starts without subs at sea, I felt secure but didn't expect the unloading being that slow.
The ship had meen sighted by his Catalinas for three consecutive turns. He obviously reacted on that sighting by sending the S-Class.
Lesson learned: Mike ain't lazy! While I often might not react properly as allied player on such a sighting, he does. So to remember for the future: When he gets intel, he can be expected to react on that intel!
Aleutians:
My fast transport group heading for Adak meets two allied AVD three times! They evade combat each time, and my fast transports finally unload their cargo. While I initially inteded to leave the four Fubuki III DDs in case he returns with his AVDs, I decide to retreat them to Paramushiro Jima which is currently recieving Fuel. He was propably planning to use the AVDs to fly PBs from Adak.
Too sad my DDs evaded combat, I'd have loved to sink this two ships. A base force is under way for Adak which will be conquered next turn.
China:
Several tank units head for Paotow tp start their journey to Lanchow.
Mike already prooves that he knows his ground combat. His forces are moving into better defendable territories. While my armies aren't ready for their respective goals Sian and Changsa, yet, I start smaller movements to intercept some chinese units in open field. To force a Chinese Corps into retreat should render that unit weak for several weeks. That should be worth something.
We also agreed on a new HR: I am allowed to move all those tiny permanently restricted Manchurian units into China proper, when I buy a Manchurian unit with a total loading cost eaqual or bigger than the cobined loading costs of all that small units.
As these units often have the perfect size (20 or 40 AV) for garrison duty, I can free way more combat units than I would otherwise. Nice!
Solomones:
Three DDs start from Rabaul with parts of a Base Force to Tulagi. I want that base ready for operations soon.
KB sorties from Truk together with Mini KB. As there's only one AO at Truk (the others are in the DEI to take fuel where it is in excess), the sortie will be rather short. Propably into the direction of Fiji and back, all at cruise speed. This should help to secure the builtup in the Solomones.
When the KB is south, an AMC will lay mines at Noumea, his main Naval base in the area. As he starts with two CVs therem I can't just move the AMC there without cover. But I gotta check first whether he has DBs there...
Production:
All CVs except Hiyo and Ikoma are accelerated. This costs a staggering 1431 Naval points while I produce 1421 right now with about 100 more to be built. I hope to find a way to accelerate EVERY single CV throughout his building time. This will mean, all CVs are ready for combat until the end of 1943. While it will cost a fortune, I think 1943 should be the last year I can expect anything from my CVs anyways, shouldn't the game turn out way better than expected. While this will mean I will hardly have a HI stockpile at the end of 1943, the reduced costs from then on will hopefully be enough, together with the time I might buy this way.
No clue whether this will work, but I don't think it'll make any difference should I get the first three Unryus from 8/44 and another three between may and june 1945. Either mid 43 to 3/44 or not at all. I can hardly expect to be good enough to still have any chance in mid 1944 in terms of a carrier battle.
Fusan reached lvl 5 port and the two CS-Convois start their work. Right now, 392 Engineers and 22 Engineer Vehicles are working there. What a dream to have those numbers of engineers whereever I need them...

I'll have to fire up an Allied game. It's been so long I can't remember what I did there. Do the Chinese have any GOOD leaders in the pool? Are they expensive? I'll check it out later.

They do have some good leaders in the pool but the game forces the Allies to make some decisions. Indidivually its not expensive but like the "pennies per day to buy life insurance" it all adds up to replace a lot of leaders. So I went after the units in contact with the IJA ..replacing the Army and Corps leaders..

China:
Small battle NE of Taiyuan. My forces destroy 67 Chinese combat squads while only suffering disabled squads themselves. I think I will follow the enemy unit to keep it unusable.
Mike already reacts on my descision to intercept his units in the open. Several units were issued orders, but he seems to have missed a few.
N Australia
A SCTF with CAs Suzuya, Kumano and the CLs Naka and Jintsu dash towards Darwin to take care of all that shipping that is sighted in the area in the last days. They meet two subs on their way, one of them takes 4 DC-Hits, one penetrating and starting fires. I have serious doubts that this means anything more than a few weeks in shipyard, though.
The TF then meets 3 Australian AM 45 miles NW of Darwin and another two directly outside Darwin. They are all artificial reefs, now.
Subs:
He obviously expected me to sortie KB from Truk. I already have identified three enemy subs two to three hexes south of Truk.
Solomones:
KB and Mini-KB are rerouted into the Coral Sea. I have found an enemy TF with 4 ships moving NE into the Solomon Sea. It is quite possible that this is in fact a CV-TF with the two US CVs.
Radio detection shows an enemy TF 45 miles SE of Brisbane. This might be a big convoy to reinforce PM.
This would make sense together with the subs close to Truk. He wants to reinforce PM before I take it and has his subs to detect KB if it intervenes.
While it may be tempting to try taking out a convoy full of enemy troops, I guess a shot at some CVs is more attractive. I will think a little bit more about what to do. Propably running towards the identified TF with full speed.

Exciting news. I look forward to what you find and hope you can avoid the sub net. Do you use separate ASW DDs following the KB?
Always good to take out Allied escorts and ASW ships. They do get a billion eventually, but for now you've probably created a local shortage.

No, the KB only has its own escorts. My idea of saving fuel also might turn into a problem. I decided to move the Oilers to the SRA to refuel where fuel is in excess and not to take it from where it is needed (HI).
This means, I only have one oiler at Truk right now. Consequently, I'll have to save fuel.
I propably cross the solomones chain in the area of Tulagi moving NW towards PM. This might corner him somewhat. If he dries to avoid the KB, he'll be in range of my Nettys with Zero escort. As those units have really good pilots, they might be enough to take out a CV or two by themselves...

On 5/9/42, KB (red) and MKB (yellow) started from Truk to a small sortie. It was intended to head into the New Caledonia/Fiji area for a show of force to secure the Invasion of Port Moresby. On 5/10 or 5/11, a small enemy TF was sighted in the island chain around Rossel Island. It consisted of 4 ships, and the sightings showed either an AMC or a CA in the following days.
As there was a radio intercept of an allied TF near Brisbane the same day and a massed prsence of allied subs south of Truk and Rabaul, I thought he might try to reinforce Port Moresby, covering his advance with the TF at Rossel Island and the subs.
So the order was given to cross the Solomones Island Chain and steam into the coral sea to take a closer look at the enemy ships.
The last turn, a small TF with a CA in it was sighted by Jakes. Unfortunately, the TBs were set to an attack range of 7, so no attack started as the enemy ships were 8 or 9 nex away. I decided to split KB and MKB and let each of the groups steam to one side of the sighting.

This time, attacks were flown...

RE: Historiker (J) vs. USS America (A) - no USS America
Knowing my opponent, he'll try to get his Surface forces into battle. So MKB will retreat toward PM and hopefully avoid the superior surface forces while KB will march away a little, but stay in the area. If I am lucky, I will be able to get most of the ships there either at sea or in the harbor!
The sightings are quite unaccurate. He has neither a CVE, nor BBs in the area. While it is theoretically possible to get BBs in the area within 15 turns, it seems unlikely. Also, there isn't an allied CVE in the game, yet!
