Larry,

I learned here on these forums that LYB stands for Little Yellow B*stards, if it means something else...
RA4.1 is up and running, thanks for all your help!

My opinion is don't worry so much about enemy TF's popping up - while not saying to ignore them, realistically Allied capital ships are all pretty much accounted for in your scenario until early / mid 1942. you may get a CA / CL / DD but you have been hunting them down these past 10 pages! Allies are pretty much on the run everywhere!
Sounds good to me.......I thought maybe the Allies might be just about out of capital ships..... but I haven't seen hide nor hair of the Houston yet and that's a tad bit worrysome. It's bound to show up eventually.

Oh yeah........I almost forgot to post the losses. Most of the Jap sunk ships are my fault. I can't seem to remember where the Allied subs are if they don't show up on the map. I tried to reroute some AK traffic around a sub and routed them instead right into the spot where he was lurking. D'oh.

Forget that story in the previous post about me routing some TF's into the path of an Allied sub being the cause of all my Jap ship losses.....it sounded good but it turns out there was a different cause. I rushed an invasion way way too close to some Allied bombers and they didn't have any air cover and the rest is history. This picture below is the first of three separate Allied air attacks and I'm pretty sure that all the TF's are goners. This is the first major boo boo in a long list of boo boo's I'm going to pull and I'm a tad bit embarassed about it.Let's pretend I'm getting bad advice or something. I can't remember what I was thinking at the time when I assigned them this target......that's probably the problem: I wasn't thinking. My Oscars can't reach this far south and they had no air cover at all. D'oh.

I'm kinda dissappointed that AK's don't seem to want to shoot at enemy AK's. I mean they have AA guns they could use don't they. This night-time encounter had the wrong kind of surface ships and nobody fired a shot at anybody. Drat. At least I got some excellent recon out of the deal. Complete list of some of the combatants I can expect to see again.

Here we have those rare situations that come up from time to time in war where one sub shoots at another and just happens to connect. It probably won't happen again during the entire war. Also, still in the middle of the Pacific I had a gaggle of subs headed to SFO when an Allied TF shows up running right through ( almost ) the middle of my path. I'm going to re-route these guys and see if anybody can get a clean shot off. I'll keep you posted on what happens.

There was a minor scurmish last night where I almost nearly dispatched an Allied DD. It's not showing up on the sunk list so maybe it's limping back to Singers or somewhere. I see where Cl Jintsu took a shell hit but it's showing up today without any damage at all. Maybe they just put some duct tape over the hole and called it good. One time in the Air Force there was this tire kicker who found a crack, admittedly a small crack, in the tread on the nose wheel of his F-5 fighter and took out his grease pencil and filled it in and called it good. The pilot didn't know the difference and nobody got hurt so......

I got some licks in last night at Guam. There's no oil refinery there so I couldn't think of a reason not to bombard. Only 15 casualties though........115 would have been better. But I've got a CVL and a CVE within range so I'm not going to fret none.

It appears that some rudimentary training is in order.....my Nells launched 18 torpedoes and got only 1 hit. My grandson could do THAT good.

Those Dutch flyboys are hitting almost as good as my flyboys. I think maybe I should have given some thought to bringing some air cover with me when I invaded Borneo. It might mitigate some of the Dutch air attacks somewhat.

Here's what happened in Hong Kong yesterday. I'm making a little headway but there's thousands of survivors left to weed out. I'm thinking I need to de-mine that hex and bombard them with my ships a bit to help out. I'm thinking of putting some minesweepers in with a bombardment TF and sailing into that harbour just to see what happens. Will the minesweepers sweep, will the Allied PT's attack? Enquiring minds want to know.

Here's what happened at Iba, PI. Allied attacks petered out and they lost more than I did. I'm beginning to think it might be just about time to try some attacks of my own. If the supply situation were any better I would but all the squads are just about out of beans, bullets, and bandaids so I'm gonna ship some more in there and fill up the coffers and then try something violent.

Hey Larry, here are some comments to your latest pictures. You are preforming very well!

You are protecting the air combat fleet of 1 CVL and 1 CVE with 4 BBs. 4 BBs for 40-50 planes? I think that's to much protection in 1941. The surface combat ships in an air combat fleet will only protect the carriers and will not try to engage other ships. It's better to create at least 1 surface combat group with some ships of this task force. If you are hunting something then you can go to full speed, but be aware to return to mission speed after finishing your hunt. Otherwise your ships will fast increase their damage level.
The CS ships are really good for recon missions and can later be converted to CVL, so protect them well!

There are some very small surface task forces at the map, especially around New Guinea. In my opinion a patrol boat should not be used in surface combat, his mission is to protect your transports. If you create to many small task forces you will have to manage more things than necessary. [;)] You should also set the max react range to a high value if you want your commander to intercept other ships.
I'm not an expert, but for the perfect jap amph mission I would add the patrol craft to my amph task force for sub protection and create a surface task force which follows the amph task force. The ships in this surface force are protecting the transports against other surface ships and they are fighting much better than being directly added to the amph task force. Once arrived at the target you can change the mission of your surface ships to bombard.

You sent the 4 small amph task forces from Bubbledrop (too funny) to unimportant bases in New Guinea. I think it's better to concentrate at first on more important targets. Maybe you should redirect these ships in your PBEM game to Rabaul together with KB and more invasion forces from Truk. You can occupy less important bases later.

To protect your invasion force in Kuatan you should set some Zero/Oscar units located west of Saigon on LRCAP with a high percentage and set as target Kuatan. There are some planes in Singapore that can carry torps and this can really hurt you. Once you have captured Kuatan or the city north of it you should bring air support to these cities, place your Oscars there and sweep/attack Singapore.

Have you checked the Econ101 document which is linked in your other thread? This document is really great, I'm impressed! What's your state of managing the economy?
After writing so much about WITPAE I really get pleasure to play as Japan in a PBEM. [:)]

Well, thank you very much for your kind words but I'm thinking that I could have done much better in the Kuatan debacle. And I'm thinking that my success so far is due to the Allied side having next to nothing to speak of to oppose me. And of the 67 ships that leaked out of the Manila harbour I'm guessing that a lot of them got away. I'm still tracking them down and killing them several days later.

Which brings up another point: I thought I had a minefield in the Bataan hex but evidently it evaporated and Tracker said it had an amount of "-1" which I'm wondering how man mines that is. In the computer programming field -1 sometimes means that the integer had too much digits in it and it set the high bit which makes the number negative. D'oh.

Yeah, I can see your point. I'm guessing when I assigned them to the air combat TF they were all that was left to be assigned or something. But you're correct and I need to correct that situation ASAP. And yeah, I've seen the increased amount of damage that going full speed can do. Even for short durations.

I noticed that some of my CS ships had like 20 FP's aboard and I can imagine they might be really good for recon and naval search, etc. I stipulate to your advice. It's good.

Are you talking about my 2-ship ASW TF's or the single-ship TF's I'm using as recon? A long time ago, perhaps a week ago now, I asked the forum about the optimum size for ASW missions and the answer I got was it depends on whether or not I was trying to find the subs or kill them. From that I inferred that more of the smaller TF's would be good for finding subs and that the 4-ship TF's would be good for killing subs. Correct me if I misinferred the advice.

Compared to me you're the expert. And I can see the advantage of having the protection TF follow the protected TF. Cool. I'll start doing that and correct the ones I have already.

D'oh. Of course you're right. Now that makes sense now that you've pointed it out to me.

I had some Nates and Oscar's at Patani that I "thought" might perform LRCAP all the way down to and including Kuatan but they didn't fly their missions for some reason and I lost 4 ships right off the bat. Good thing they unloaded during the night and were empty. And yeah of the 4 squadrons I have on the peninsula at least two of them are sweeping.

Yeah, I read through that thing twice and I like it a lot. Really good info in there. I'm gonna read it again here in a couple of days now that stuff is making more sense and see what else I'm missing.
ORIGINAL: sj80
What's your state of managing the economy?
I'll do a sinopsis of the state of the economy shortly after I post this. I think it's doing pretty well so far all things considered.....but then that's what I would say even if it wasn't doing all that hot because I'm unaware of the problems it has. Tracker is a God-send to helping with the economy.

Yeah, it IS fun isn't it? Like being a CEO of a mega-conglomerate or something. Stay tuned for more news.

Here's the tracker Alerts involving the economy. You can see how the global vehicle points starts out with a low value gets a huge jump and goes low almost immediately and now is growing slowly. I'm guessing that's an artifact of the introducing of LCU's onto the map or something.

Here's the Tracker economy overview. I'm somewhat troubled by the warnings on the lower left. There's some numbers that mean something but I'm not sure what yet. Vehicle assembly is 33 now and slowly climbing I guess that's a good thing.

Ooops......I misspoke above. The above post is the report. This is the overview. I've highlighted oil since I'm guessing oil is the bottleneck for the whole thing I'm guessing not enough time has past to really get the problems to show their ugly heads yet.

This view shows how Japan is steadily putting out more that it's bringing in and then in turn 8 supply got a smallish jump. I'm guessing that I bumped oil Refiining upward somehow or something.
