Hey Larry, here are some comments to your latest pictures. You are preforming very well!
Well, thank you very much for your kind words but I'm thinking that I could have done much better in the Kuatan debacle. And I'm thinking that my success so far is due to the Allied side having next to nothing to speak of to oppose me. And of the 67 ships that leaked out of the Manila harbour I'm guessing that a lot of them got away. I'm still tracking them down and killing them several days later.
Which brings up another point: I thought I had a minefield in the Bataan hex but evidently it evaporated and Tracker said it had an amount of "-1" which I'm wondering how man mines that is. In the computer programming field -1 sometimes means that the integer had too much digits in it and it set the high bit which makes the number negative. D'oh.

You are protecting the air combat fleet of 1 CVL and 1 CVE with 4 BBs. 4 BBs for 40-50 planes? I think that's to much protection in 1941. The surface combat ships in an air combat fleet will only protect the carriers and will not try to engage other ships. It's better to create at least 1 surface combat group with some ships of this task force. If you are hunting something then you can go to full speed, but be aware to return to mission speed after finishing your hunt. Otherwise your ships will fast increase their damage level.
Yeah, I can see your point. I'm guessing when I assigned them to the air combat TF they were all that was left to be assigned or something. But you're correct and I need to correct that situation ASAP. And yeah, I've seen the increased amount of damage that going full speed can do. Even for short durations.

The CS ships are really good for recon missions and can later be converted to CVL, so protect them well!
I noticed that some of my CS ships had like 20 FP's aboard and I can imagine they might be really good for recon and naval search, etc. I stipulate to your advice. It's good.

There are some very small surface task forces at the map, especially around New Guinea. In my opinion a patrol boat should not be used in surface combat, his mission is to protect your transports. If you create to many small task forces you will have to manage more things than necessary. [;)] You should also set the max react range to a high value if you want your commander to intercept other ships.
Are you talking about my 2-ship ASW TF's or the single-ship TF's I'm using as recon? A long time ago, perhaps a week ago now, I asked the forum about the optimum size for ASW missions and the answer I got was it depends on whether or not I was trying to find the subs or kill them. From that I inferred that more of the smaller TF's would be good for finding subs and that the 4-ship TF's would be good for killing subs. Correct me if I misinferred the advice.

I'm not an expert, but for the perfect jap amph mission I would add the patrol craft to my amph task force for sub protection and create a surface task force which follows the amph task force. The ships in this surface force are protecting the transports against other surface ships and they are fighting much better than being directly added to the amph task force. Once arrived at the target you can change the mission of your surface ships to bombard.
Compared to me you're the expert. And I can see the advantage of having the protection TF follow the protected TF. Cool. I'll start doing that and correct the ones I have already.

You sent the 4 small amph task forces from Bubbledrop (too funny) to unimportant bases in New Guinea. I think it's better to concentrate at first on more important targets. Maybe you should redirect these ships in your PBEM game to Rabaul together with KB and more invasion forces from Truk. You can occupy less important bases later.
D'oh. Of course you're right. Now that makes sense now that you've pointed it out to me.

To protect your invasion force in Kuatan you should set some Zero/Oscar units located west of Saigon on LRCAP with a high percentage and set as target Kuatan. There are some planes in Singapore that can carry torps and this can really hurt you. Once you have captured Kuatan or the city north of it you should bring air support to these cities, place your Oscars there and sweep/attack Singapore.
I had some Nates and Oscar's at Patani that I "thought" might perform LRCAP all the way down to and including Kuatan but they didn't fly their missions for some reason and I lost 4 ships right off the bat. Good thing they unloaded during the night and were empty. And yeah of the 4 squadrons I have on the peninsula at least two of them are sweeping.

Have you checked the Econ101 document which is linked in your other thread? This document is really great, I'm impressed!
Yeah, I read through that thing twice and I like it a lot. Really good info in there. I'm gonna read it again here in a couple of days now that stuff is making more sense and see what else I'm missing.

What's your state of managing the economy?
I'll do a sinopsis of the state of the economy shortly after I post this. I think it's doing pretty well so far all things considered.....but then that's what I would say even if it wasn't doing all that hot because I'm unaware of the problems it has. Tracker is a God-send to helping with the economy.

After writing so much about WITPAE I really get pleasure to play as Japan in a PBEM. [:)]
Yeah, it
IS fun isn't it? Like being a CEO of a mega-conglomerate or something. Stay tuned for more news.
