Larry,

I just answered a RA opponent request, so my first AAR may be a PBEM...RA 4.2 just came out and I D/L'd it today.
Coolness. I'll keep up with your AAR. I'm curious to know what differences there are between stock WITP and RA. Maybe you can talk your opponent into using 4.2 ???

I've been reading the Econ101 and man o man, I've got 4 pages of notes and questions just from that. Good stuff!
Yeah, I've bookmarked that Econ101 document. Massive re-reading is required from me.

So um.........hey you guys.........moore4807 was going to do an AAR about RA 4.2 and his PBEM fell through so without thinking about it too much I volunteered to PBEM him and so this game is put on hold for a while so I can do my moves for him. Back in a bit.

Gents n Ladies,

Larry and I are going for a friendly PBEM - since I'm a PBEM rookie - I'm accepting all help and suggestions... starting with a catchy AAR name to call this upcoming battle!

I am reading Mike Solli's AAR, I read the 25 pages of Econ101 (absorbed about 25% - need to reread it) and SuluSea has been helpful posting charts on the JIA & IJN units (air, land, sea),
and I thought I was as smart as the average bear - yeah riiiggghhhtttt!

Does it make sense when I say I feel like I'm cramming biology and algebra like I'm back in H.S. (yes I sucked at them too).

I think Larry has learned a lot in the month or so he's been on this forum.
Yeah, I'll second that emotion. It's been an eye opener. I've arrived here from the WITE forum and it's not as active as this forum and there at least one flame war going on all the time. I guess that's what happens when you have a game involving themes that touch on emotional issues in one way or another. Panzer fanboys come out of the woodwork and there's at least three guys who are experts on Hitler and what he should have done to win the war. And they don't always agree. LOL.

This is a better forum, a more active forum, and I'm glad I'm here. Thanks to everybody who's trying to make it better for everybody.

Um.........I've picked up a third opponent for another WITP-AE game and so far they have been keeping me busy doing moves about 18 hours per day for the past two weeks and so I'm guessing my posting stuff here will be hit or miss at best. I've not abandoned this game or anything.......I'm just without enough time to devote much resources here. I'm hoping to find my Allied opponents taking longer on their turns such that my posting stuff here will be enabled sometime in the future. I say sometime in the future like it will be soon but I'm guessing it'll be at least a week or more before that happens. Rob has been known to return his moves in a mater of like two hours and I'm taking something like a full day to return mine to them, except for my game with Kevin Lilly ( no AAR so far ) which is the Guadalcanal scenario where not much is happening so far.......there I can manage to return something within an hour. The most massive time consumer is Jim's game ( Reluctant Admiral 4.2 ) where I'm having to construct a virtual AAR because we've adopted the delayed posting policy to protect OPSEC.

Short answer is no I haven't given up posting stuff here and hope to get time to do so in the "near future". I like playing the Jap and the Allied AI is an easy opponent and I've learned a thing or two about playing the Jap side by giving the appropriate attention to detail of what the Allied side is able to do and when etc. Rob has surprised me at least twice so far and Jim once ( with his suicide CM missions to my landing sites to lay mines). I love this game and hate to see any game abandoned, this one included.

Shortest answer: stay tuned.

Finally, I've found some time to post stuff here. The email from Jim that said was his moves didn't have a file attached to it and the email from Rob had a file that he had attached that was asking for player 2's password so neither of them was playable. And I knocked out Kevin's moves in about an hour ( Guadacanal scenario ) so we've got time on our hands again.

The AI dude is flooding the south coast of the Jap Home Islands with subs. I'm chasing them down but don't have really high hopes of sinking anything. My dudes drop lots of DC's but there's rarely a hit.

Here's the turn 13 WITP-AE economic chart. I'm going to run outta NavY points unless I bump up the NavY output or stop building some ships.

You have to get the sub DL's up to near 10 to get a hit.

Definitely cut back on back on build rate. It appears you are trying to accelerate too many ships at once. Remember, there is only so much oil which converts to a finite amount of fuel. If your plans are to only expand to the historical limits, you have to be very careful you do not over build your navy (including merchant) as they consume a lot of fuel.

If you want a bigger navy, your first assignment is to find more fuel. EX: plan to ttake Karachi by 10/42. Executing to this plan will get you at least 1M (rader picked up more like 3M fuel and he fell short of actually taking Karachi) more fuel which means you could now support a bigger navy if you so choose. Or you may choose to use the fuel to increase your HI and grow the overall size of your economy.

The entire game for the IJ is centered around logisitics, and the logisitics revolve around fuel. Fuel drives both the economy and the Navy. Such a simple concept, but it has so many layers. And the layers frequently obscure this simple idea which players then lose sight of to their ultimate detriment.

That sounds like excellent advice and I'm grateful for it. Cut back the NavY build rate, don't accel. so many ships at once, and keep an eye on the fuel situation, roger that.

Rob is in Colorado for a few days, I've sent Jim my moves a couple of hours ago, and I haven't heard from Kevin in a couple of days now so we're back to my fall-back game ( this one ). I'm noticing some Allied ships headed east from the southern PI area and I'm not sure where they came from........I'm guessing they are fleeing from the Manila harbour and are perhaps headed for Pearl or the west coast. I'm going to have to divert some surface forces to chase them down and sink them for they are treading on my major shipping lanes from the Home Islands to Guam and points south. Can't have that going on for long.

The AI is certainly keeping the subs busy. I'm guessing all these subs came from the Manila harbour and so far they are concentrated south of Formosa and the northern PI area. Lots of them are spotted and I have no idea how many are operating that I haven't spotted yet. Probably a handful. I've got ASW assets to combat this but for now I'm concentrating on routing my ships around all the subs.

And the Japanese Home Islands are being flooded on the southern coast with Alllied subs. Is this behavior scripted for the AI? Does anybody know?

Larry,

I found that the A.I. puts 4-6 subs on average around Japan at any given time. Sometimes when you have a lot of ASW coverage - there are MANY more reports of subs than actual ones. I don't know if that is true for everyone, but its pretty steady in my A.I. experience.

So what you're saying is that I should expect 5 or 6 subs around the Japanese Home Islands all the time. D'oh. That's going to put a crimp in my shipping of resources in and out of there.
