The green triangle and other mysterious things

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

@Templer & Sniper

Will be fixed with patch 2. Actually the bars are the same height, but a 3 color coding system is used on the big counter and a 4-color coding scheme is used on the small counter.

Basically its a graphic glitch, has no repercussions on game calculations or actual stats.

best,
Vic

As for the ammo stockpile (which I assume the bar on arty units is), how big is the effect on the unit if you launch a barrage without the bar being in the full green? Or does it only matter that you don't completely empty the bar, in which case the unit will have depleted their stocks completely?

Other mysterious things

Post by Templer_12 »

I read somewere on this forum 'MX-ENTR' stand for maximum entrenchment.
Here the blackboard says 'MX-ENTR' 200.

But in fact it is 253!
So what's going on here? [&:]

I want to piggyback off your screenshot. I mentioned this in another post. Look at the Inf CROSS-RIV for Combat (50/40/20/30). And look at the Inf CROSS-RIV for Movetype (40/30/10/20).

These should be the exact opposite. The Movetype is correct (VOLGA/MAJOR/MEDIUM/MINOR) because the cost to cross goes up. The COMBAT ones are not correct because in COMBAT, the exact opposite is true in that in COMBAT the higher the number the less penalty (INFANTRY in Forested Mountain are 100) and the lesser the number the greater the penalty (GUNS in Forested Mountain is 20).

With that said, look at the cross-river calculation (50/40/20/10), it gives the VOLGA a 50 and a minor river a 20, so it is exactly the opposite of what it should be. I cross-reference this effect in the COMBAT DETAILS and I could not correlate ANY of the RIVER numbers to what is in the HEX screenshot above . I will place that in a different post.

No i think its mistaken recon. I note on the screenshot the enemy positions are being surveyed with FOW on.

How can this be, when you know that the position / hex does not allow more than 200? [&:]

full recon is around 700 iirc. low recon points tend to make ennemy units weakerthan they are.

What type of bombers were these, Templer? Fighter-bombers, or level bombers, or dive bombers? Maybe they aren't so much "intercepting" as providing close air support, on defense?

I'm pretty sure I've seen enemy bombers "intercept" me. If they're providing close air support, maybe that's okay.

I hope Vic can explain what's going on here, as I'm curious too.

I'd guess it's a holdover from AT/ATG. All air based units have an intercept rating. For bombers just turn it to 0 like you'd do in AT/ATG.

The setting is with each aircraft.
But with bombers, transport planes and dive bombers this setting is complete nonsense.
Or don't I understand something?

Imagine, bombers after a emergency start hunting in a dog fight enemy fighters.

Hi,

Ok the INTCP setting just appears for all air units. However divebombers, transporters and levelbombers will never, no matter the intercept setting, join an intercept mission, even when mixed with fighters in the same unit.

Why do stuff like this happen then ? The bomber wasn't in the hex attacked.

Or hm looking at my own picture it seems like the intercepting unit was just misidentified as a bomber one, I thought I had seen bombers intercepting but maybe im just confused.

I just got intercepted by the Soviets when bombing an infantry unit as Germany.
Casualties for the Soviets are (from casualties inflicted statistic, it is the very first action in very first turn): 5 fighters and 10 LEVELBOMBERS.

How can this be if they don't intercept?

It just shows the icon for the bomber even though they are not intercepting.

No, I mean the Soviets literally lost 10 bombers. I looked it up because I was wondering why they lost only 5 fighters even though the combat result was 3 red planes and they lost 5 fighters and 10 bombers (Polikarpov U-2 to be precise).

Apart from the Bombers intercepting, I have another question about the game mechanics regarding air power - how is it determined whether I lose bombers when attacking ground units? I am always trying to be as careful as possible: first flying air attacks/recon missions with fighters to try and gain air superiority - as far as I have experienced fighters can only intercept you once per turn? Then I never ever attack units where any AA is within 2 hexes. Then I bomb the lone infantry/AT guns/artillery with my Kampfgeschwaders (level bombers, JU88 and HE111). And STILL I am very often losing ground attack planes - is this realistic? Losing medium/heavy bombers to fire from the ground from a regular infantry regiment?
Or could it be that something else attacked my planes (what?!?) and it is just not shown in the combat results?

And apart from the discussion whether it is realistic or not, how is it determined through the game mechanics anyway? I don't see any AA statistics for non-AA units?

All of your question can be answered when you go into the Combat Details screen. Once it opens, click around you will have the answers to all of your questions.

I am pretty sure that you only can lose Bombers from either (1) Ftr intercepts, (2) Heavy Flak (88's for example), or (3) Accidents. I do not know the math behind accidents, but that causes kills.
