Congrats to both players on a good game, and to Arto on a good win. Scenario 19 looks like a handful for the USN! I learned a lot reading this AAR. Any closing thoughts, players?

Don't let em get TV

Hi, The allies can not permit the Japanese to capture Townsville in scenario 19. They will not have ground forces to force out 135k
before 1 Jan 43.
(Also keep guard over Rock and Brisbane.)

LV is another story. It is hard for the Japanese to supply that base. (Townsville has nice support from Cooktown and Cairns and CT while LV is pretty much on it's own since the other bases suffer from the same problem. Townsville you can supply by barges moving from Cairns or Cooktown and never have to risk AP there at night.

Congratulations Arto on defeating the great Mogami!
Wonderful AAR and narration, Mogami!

As far as supply, TV is non-malarial for the IJA also, right?
Troops can stay in position there.
At LV IJA units would have to be rotated, lessening the size and
complicating supply.

I think too, that trying to capture Townsville is the best tactic for the japanese side, if one wants to achieve the auto victory. In scenario 19 and with the settings we played this game (200% ship commitment for japanese), the allied side has a hard time trying to prevent this happening, if the japanese concentrates all his forces toward Australia. This can be done quite safely I think. The possibility for an early allied attack is pretty small.
I got some help from Mogamis mistakes also. This was the first scen 19. game for both of us, so Mogami probably was not expecting the japanese onslaught to be so rapid and aggressive. I managed to defeat his forces piecemeal.
The allied fighters short range prevented Mogami from bombing Townsville in the latter part of the campaign. My fighters flying CAP forced his bombers to night bombing, which was almost useless from the allied point of wiew, just causing casualties with very little gained.
This was a very interesting game and I enjoyed very much playing against Mogami and I also like his battle reports very much.
Thanks Mogami!

Of course, the IJN has to supply Cairns and Cooktown -- still a mighty long trek from Truk (so to speak). Was this a problem, Arto?

Supplying Townsville was not a problem. I had a lot of merchant ships so I could keep a constant flow of transport TF´s going from Truk to TV. Mogami had lost most of his carriers in the early battles, so he was not able intercept that traffic.

Mogami -

In retrospect, what do you feel that you should have done differently?

Thanks -

After Arto

Post by mogami »

Hi, In the games began after this one. I really paid attention to Townsville, Rockhampton and Brisbane. even if this required Cooktown and Cairns to shut down for a while. (They contain 3 Bde of infantry) In the other scenario 19's Australia has been invaded 3 times (1 currently still fighting) But I have held the Auto cities. L'ville has been attacked 5 times I lost it to the first Japanese player who went there (But I will recapture it. It is closed down and has been for some time)
I had many units cut off defending Cooktown and Cairns and they might have made an impact holding Townsville (22k infantry)
Arto moved alot faster then I was used to seeing. I did not realize just how much scenario 19 gives Japan untill I started my game with Erik.
