The quick pullback of Soviet units along much of the central front left our forces to pursue them in the heat and dust of the steppe summer. Some combat occured, but without major result except for the fall of Dnepropetrovsk in the south. Also, the newest Soviet fighter, the La7, finally appeared in battle as the Luftwaffe sent everything it had at their bases, leading to massive air battles in the north. Other airfields near Moscow were also attacked but 1500 Yak9s rose to defend the bases and so further attacks were called off.

August 5. is decleared national holiday! The german panzers suffered a devastating defeat at the gates of Moscow! 3 panzer korpses were destroyed with 2 infantry korpses perishing as well.

But let's begin at the start:

The heroic la7's in the north divided the Luftwaffe. At this time 3000 elite yak9's escorted our bombers against the 2nd panzer army airfields. As result Mackensen the commander died and the Luftwaffe was smashed off the skies. All ground attack aircraft attacked the undefended german panzers and 7 tank armies moved in for the kill with many normal armies attacking as well.

Because of the somewhat clumsy attack 1 panzer korps survived and will probaly will escape next week. Their will be an investigation about this, but now is the time for celebration.

This might even stop german attacks in the centre.

Well, if you look back at my post 5-6 back, it said the final victory for east or west was approaching, and I think it may have happened with this disaster. Only the Soviets, playing down their capabilities, may have been saying it was approaching a final German victory. With the heavy loss of tanks and airpower, it is time now to see if pure infantry can reach Moscow

Well, I begin to fancy my chances for helding Moscow until 45, maybe even getting a draw. Now for a few months the germans won't be able to attack on multiple fronts. Rick will need all his panzers at Moscow. Probably he will take Lenningrad first, then deal with Moscow. I don't think he will be able to take Moscow with infantry:) This is not the south front:) I hope only that the german panzers will not strike back hard at my "poor little tank armies".

Ugh, the constant refrain of "poor little tank armies" requires revenge on the part of all Germans, but for now little can be done. Minor strikes were launched along the front with some ground gained near Leningrad. Fortunately for our forces, numerous men and equipment escaped from the enemy encirclements, although losses were still heavy.

For our surprise the Luftwaffe only had reatively small forces ("only" 500 fighters) in the centre protecting the troops. They were samshed of the skies again. With the air supriority firmly in soviet hand, the plta's ("poor little tank armies") forced 2 infantry korps to retreat and the 48th panzer korps to surrender. Stalin already dreams about recapturing Smolensk. Soviet air force hit several panzer kopses in the centre are to soften their counterattacks. This was the 7th german panzer korps destroyed this summer but the germans seem never running out of them... In the north the situation is real desperate.

No. No turn of the tide. Just bitter fight for a chance to exist somewhat longer. To cripple the victor or achieve the miracle draw. This offense will stop in the moment the Luftwaffe takes back the air. And it will no doubt about that. After that I will try to make some more damage and pray for panzer korpses in vulnerable position.

My Soviet opponent is very impressive. But the battle must continue.

Leningrad, stripped by the Soviets of its tank forces, finally fell to continual attacks over the course of the entire week. Our troops went out of control to retaliate for the losses on the city outskirts and near Moscow, looting and pillaging. The fate of the city and its inhabitants are in the balance, but plans are being laid to move on Moscow to ensure its fall before the end of the year.

It is believed that the Soviet forces are finally running out of manpower with the fall of this great city, and that manpower shortages should grow until the end of the war.

Last week the soviet command has withdrawn all tank forces from Lenningrad as the entrenchments were destroyed and the supply line was in grave danger. We need that 3 fully equipped tank divisions in the Moscow area, they are worth too much to be sacraficed for 1 week more resistance in Lenningrad.

The german beasts killed all civilians in Lenningrad. It is now certain that all 973.452 civilians who stayed in Lenningrad were killed. The lucky ones died fast, most of them were slowly tortured. The enemy burns in blind hatred over recent losses and shows no mercy.

Stalin ordered all german captives to the front. They will pay for the sins of the german army. They will be used as living shields for our tank armies. Every of our tanks destroyed will kill 10 german captives as well. We took the effort to inform the germans about this. No more fine living and food in our superb prisoner camps for the germans!

In the centre the german fighter support grow too strong for continuing our offense. The lpta's went behind the infatry lines again. We bombed the weakened 18th army airfields in the south to force some german fighters away from the centre.

Thank you master josan:) I will not surrender. It is fun to fight to the last in a gigantic last battle. Sorry for our misunderstunding in our last game. It was my fault. Now that I have some more skill in this game I see how you beat me so decisively. I just did not understund that time, as you were one of my very early human opponent. That's the explanation not the excuse of course.
I have to say I learned a lot of that short game in time as I slowly understood the meaning of air power and deadly mobile warfare.

It will not be easy for either of us! And it has been a fun, frustrating battle to try and destroy the evil menace of the east, that launched an unprovoked attack on the peaceful German homeland. Tom has done an excellent job with his forces. Glad to hear you are enjoying the back and forth tides of war in the east.

And officially, there have been no civilian deaths in Leningrad, just looting. After all, our guys are the good guys in grey helmuts and will not commit crimes against the enemy that stabbed us in the back.

The Luftwaffe struck directly at the airfields north of Moscow holding the Yak9s that have caused our forces such grief over the past few weeks. Hundreds were destroyed in the air and on the ground, but at heavy cost in return.

Meanwhile, the Finns took over administration of Leningrad, as the conquering soldiers moved to concentrate on Moscow next. Our ground attacks failed to gain ground this week, but the enemy forces suffered heavy casualties.

Of course there were no civilian killing in Lenningrad. Just by mistake all civilians commited suicide because of strictly personal reason's on the same day as the germans took the city....

The german 2nd panzer army was deployed just behind the front, and the recon reported it is full of aircrafts. The soviet armored formations outraged by the german violence in Lenningrad attacked in battle rage. 2 tank armies and a shock army forced a german panzer korps in the way to retreat, and a tank army continued on and overrun the german hq. Luckily there were no defenders. The tankers laughed and cheered almost insanely as they took revenge on their most hated enemy. The tanks crushed the planes with great care to very small pieces. The soviet intelligence guys were somewhat late and could only save a few dozen aircrafts for inspection. There were no german pilots left to question. It seems that the red army commited some small war crimes against the german pilots (killed them all, and it was not a preatty sight...). We deeply regret that.

Our tank armies are now in a very risky position, they await the german counterattack terrified.

We started this with WIR 3.1 and converted to 3.2 early on. That corrupted all the totals and so I don't think there is any real way of telling what horrendous losses have been suffered in total.
